I've been doing some preparations in order to get ready for my first Shadow Lair run, and I remembered something about using a vortex bomb in order to force regular Snarby in front of the bell in order to get the hit off more easily. This is demonstrated in this video, and I was wondering if this would work on the two Rabid Snarbies.
Also, if you have any tips on the entire run in general (this will be my very first) feel free to give them =)

My tip

Run with at least one 'pro' in the party. If it's your first run of the SL it's invaluable to have someone awesome in the party to help carry you through the difficult parts. :)

The Vortex thing isn't really

The Vortex thing isn't really needed. Besides the swarm seed makes it pretty hard to bomb. (Here's my quick Rabid Snarbo vid: http://youtu.be/4cm22fLxARo - Took 3 mins and all we used was BTB)

One question: I was thinking

One question: I was thinking about the unknown passage and all the normal damage that comes at you in there, and I was thinking about making a Volcanic Plate Shield. I went on the wiki and saw that the Ancient plate shield has the same amount of bars as the volcanic plate shield in terms of normal resist. Are they equal? If so, wouldn't it be cheaper to Vana until I can get an Ancient Plate shield, use it for the shadow lair, then vend it for 30k crowns?

The Unknown Passage is

The Unknown Passage is surprisingly short. It's probably not worth it to make a new shield just for the Unknown Passage. If you have an Ancient Plate Shield, you could use it, but I don't think I've seen anybody use one in the three times that I've gone. Most people use the Barbarous Thorn Shield to get the damage bonus, because the gates are controlled by the amount of damage you deal IIRC.

I used to use Crest of Almire

I used to use Crest of Almire since it has more normal damage than BTS.

Also just let me note that

Also just let me note that you can change your gear in the unknown passage, as not many people seem to know that.

.

Ancient Plate Shield is great in Unknown Passage.

My first SL Snarby run loadout was:

Dread Skelly Mask
Skolver Coat
Dread Skelly Shield
BTB
Voltedge
Polaris
Shivermist

I was very pleased with this setup.

Unknown Passage doesn't require extensive shielding

Lumbers: too slow

Lichens: annoying at best

Gremlins: easily handled with an Acheron or piercing sword

Zombies: cannon fodder

Wolvers: way too easy

Swarm Turrets: unkillable but only fire 1 bullet per shot…just like in Tier 1 lol
