Yesterday me and fellow guild members ventured out to our first shadow lair! we fought the rabid snarbys(They are not easy!). :D Through trial and error we managed to beat them and make it to the sanctuary. now I'm rocking Mercurial bomber armor :) It thanks OOO for making such a awesome game!

Also my brother wants to know why is there no gunner SL armor.

W-..wow, I'm, I'm just.

... Ullik how do you even, are we suddenly not allowed to post happy anecdotes, only complaints?

I read this and thought to myself, aaaw, that's awesome, and congrats, Guarder! I haven't done a Shadow Lair yet myself but doing runs like that for the first time is super exciting.

Report:

Still grinding my way up to 5*, so I can't speak to my own experience with Shadow Lairs. Already dreading the idea of setting aside massive amounts of CE just for entry and revives.

I've heard it's tough; what did you think?

Great job!

Yeah, I just lead my first Snarby SL run today (2 weeks of preparing mats, armor heating and CE) so I had everything ready for the Sanctuary. First experiences, I will agree, typically feel the worst. You don't know what to expect so most of it you are going in blindly, even with all the guides and vids out there. I came out with Heavenly Iron, full Snarby and Almirian Crusader by the end and I'm thankful for my guild being there to get me through it. I know there is no way I would have survived without them through it all. :)

Congrats! I don't have the guts to use and/or waste my CE on probably a failed SL run. Congrats on the victory!!!

Nice job. And trust me, they get easier. Take my experience for example:

First run: Spent 600 CE on revives on a 4 man party and rage quit in the first floor.

Second run: Spent less than 200 CE in a 2 man party and beat it (though I didn't craft the snarby coat cause I didn't really want it, nor did I have an Ash Tail coat at the time).

See this is the #1 reason I love this game:

The community. SK has one of the best online community of gamers. For every one negative troller (dooosh), there's 10 more who will gladly lift you back up. Way to go dudes haha.

Sadly, for the validity of your post, Ullik, I care quite a bit.
You know shadow lairs, they're quite difficult. Probably the most difficult thing in the game right now, really aside from
completing you know, a Shadow Lair without dying, or something like that, there's not much harder.
Congratulations Guarder, by the way. Nice choice of armor too. I like mercurial bomber's looks.

Heh

I remember when soloing JK used to be a slightly big deal, especially with 2-3* gear.

The haters were mostly peeps who've done it before, although that's not entirely fair, seeing as they have all the gear/skill they need already pretty much.

@Guarder Good job! I remembering trying to do a SL Snarby run a while back. I got creamed BADLY. Didn't even make it past the first stage.

Half due to my inadequate equipment and the other half due to my own inability to stay alive/not take a hit.

Nice!

My first SL run was about two months ago, and the entertainment I got out of it was worth the investment. Even though my party wiped about 10 times, we still had fun. I'm glad many of you feel the same.

However on a more somber note, many of my friends (including but not limited to the three that went with me on my first SL run) feel like they've reached the pinnacle of the enjoyment they'll ever get out of Spiral Knights, and they're starting to play less and less. For us, a Shadow Lair run was always the far-off goal that we always had in the corner of our minds. Once we finally reached it, we were left without such a goal, and frankly there wasn't really much more for us to do. Since I still have fun with Spiral Knights, I find it a little sad that my friends are starting to move on. I know I'll keep playing for a little while longer, but sometimes it's just not as fun without party members you know and trust...

It was my first too, and Guarder did so well there! Congrats! Warriors of Almire's first SL! (I think)

Lucky to see someone get a nice Mercurial Demo set from a rather TREACHEROUS run! I dunno how well I'd manage in one of those myself.

Cool xD. I did my first SL

Cool xD. I did my first SL run in the beginning of April. It was with some nice guild members so i got in for free of course. I didnt spend any CE on revives but i had to leave after beating the snarby's (i only did a little bit of the passage) because i had to go to baseball practice. Well, i hope i get to do another and by the way i was playing LD with you yesterday (maybe day before) and you were wearing that mercurial (i think i killed you quite a few times xD). Anyway, congrats xD.

BTW my armor set was most likely a 2* magic set with a spike mohawk

Mygmar's screen is small!

The run was horrible, but eventually we broke through... and was I proud of them when we did!

We fell apart on the boss fight though. At least the Silkwing got stuck in the corner.. Nice going, Silkwing.

Two Snarabids are extremely difficult to deal with unprepared; but only one of them, and we got done with him in no time. The Swarm Seed gave us a varying level of difficulty, what with the Snarabids coming in from both sides and not being able to run fast enough to escape in the Seed.

Shortly thereafter we ran into the Unknown Passage. I am aware that it is widely accepted as an easy level in Shadow Lairs but we had a bit of difficulty there as well. The few moments where we ran across the white tile bridge were probably one of the most awesome in this game.

All in all, I think we could have done better, but I have no regrets about it. Seeing the Sanctuary with my own eyes was more than worth it, to me.
