Wait.. so can I use bad words or not

The ToS says no cussing out other players, okay, but can I cuss out that off-screener trojan if I have the filter disabled? They have no feelings.
Or just, you know, general cussing that is not directed towards any player.
I just wanna make sure I don't break any rule lol.
Edit: According to Eurydice, no, you cannot swear at that rude off-screener! Post #1, Post #2.

Isn't swearing not a big deal as long you don't go around saying "[player name], yerra [oh lawdy this is censored]."?

Yup yup, however I want to make sure. Some people tend to flip their ssfjsld-tables when I swear during runs or whatever so....

Considering how many people swear in this game, I'd assume they only care about those who do it excessively or to intimidate/harass/insult other people.
If you lag and get smashed in the face by a Trojan, I think it won't be a problem to say "F--- YOU TROJANZ!" :P Just don't abuse it and there shouldn't be any problems. Also, I'd recommend you do not try to avoid the filter, that's not something that would go well with those dealing with ban and appeals.
On a related note: I don't know why people get banned for using words that are filtered by default. If you turn off the filter, it's because you are (or you think you are) mature enough to deal with that kind of language, so it's kinda redundant, but meh... That's another topic >.>

If you do it, make sure you spell your words right.
the chat filter exists for that lol.

Swearing and inappropriate content
Keep it clean! - Using or linking to vulgar, obscene or offensive language or material is considered swearing. This includes any racial, sexual, unlawful, religious slurs, insults or other deliberately offensive remarks directed at another knight
The ToS says no swearing at all including insults towards other players. BUT why would they leave an option to uncensor chat then?
Now I'm more confused.

I think that one can use bad words (thats why we have chat filter so people who dont want to see bad words can turn them off) BUT one must not swear at someone and insult him (no matter there is chat filter in this situation).

According to that rule Juances, more than half of SK would be banned.
including me...
Vescrit laughs!

> BUT why would they leave an option to uncensor chat then?
Foul language is a violation of the ToS, and the existence of the filter doesn't change that. But sometimes people need or want to see exactly what is being said to them, and thus the option to see incoming chat unfiltered.

That sounded a bit screwy at first, but I understand it now.

My chat is always filtered & I don't have the habit to cuss a lot since I don't cuss much in reality. I usually just spasm words in-game like @#$ even when people have their filters on. I also like to personal attack players when they start pushing my buttons by calling them motherless [insert animal specie name here] or telling them to shut the cheese up. Or sometimes I type things like Tairy-Hesticles. But sadly, no... still no job interview & even with my nice clean cuss-free habit.

So.. I'm still confused from Eury's post. @_@
Is that a no or yes?
Am I not allowed to say -censored word here- in Haven randomly, even if is not meant to offend anybody?
I just tried filing a complaint against someone for offensive chat to see if that would give any clues, and the message for it is:
"Offensive chat is usually swearing, sexual language, violent language or racist language. We do allow some use of offensive chat when it's just considered harmless smack talk, but when it's directed at players and getting person the it's no longer acceptable."
Which implies that yes, it is okay to do that harmless swearing which is not meant to offend. However Eury's post did not confirm that, it may have even been the opposite, suggesting that no swear words shall be typed into the chat.. "Foul language is a violation of the ToS, and the existence of the filter doesn't change that."

How about not cuss out people, and keep it at that. We're all typing in a game its not like we can't think things through while typing. I try to avoid cussing, but at times it does slip out.... but not to someone but more as a reaction..

Thats what I assumed as well. So should I be banned for the occasional [fecal matter] when talking with friends while I see much less mature knights calling others [female dog], c**t, and [doodyhead]?
I would certainly hope not.
Since the ToS are probably the higher ruling, maybe a change in wording for reports?

When the ToS is unclear, go by the examples that have been set. You won't get banned for swearing in general as long as it's not bad (I wouldn't fancy your chances if, say, you used the n word, regardless of where you use it) but don't swear excessively and don't swear at people. Don't call people anything that would be filtered, just to be safe. And avoid swearing too much in front of strangers (most people can handle f*** and sh** but a lot of people are offended by c***, for instance). I swear fairly often, mostly f, sh and crap if that even counts, but I don't think I've ever even been reported for it because it doesn't offend.
On another note, does the word "cuss" annoy anyone else? It's curse, damn it.

It shouldn't be defined at 'foul' language. It should be considered arbitrary words that the uneducated masses have agreed upon that they're wrong to use in normal conversations for no reason other than past precedent.
Bunch of humbug if you ask me

Did the community manager mess up in this post?

> I just tried filing a complaint against someone for offensive chat to see if that would give any clues, and the message for it is:

Yeah. That wording is confusing and I've been trying to get it changed forever. The ToS, however, says not to use foul language.

aww cmon folks, dyou really think theres someone watching you swearing on sk even when you're alone ?

I don't get it. Why even have chat filters if you're not allowed to swear regardless? Likewise, if there's automatic filters in place, why is it still against the rules to say "holy @#$&"?
Incidentally, I find it both stupid and funny that so many people purposely try to bypass the wordfilter, clearly oblivious to the ability to disable it. Not to mention, the filters are there for a REASON.
While I'm on the subject, why are some words "comicified" yet if you type certain others, it totally BLOCKS your entire sentence? That doesn't seem fair at all.

Intentionally getting around the foul language filter by, for example, typing eff+you+kay instead of eff+you+see+kay, will, I believe automatically get picked up by the system and notify a administrator, who will then issue you a warning or, if you repeat the offense, a temporary ban.

oh ****, I cuss all the time.
All joking aside, it's not too much of a problem, yet it's still a problem.
@Mawashimono
Derp, I have said curse words a couple times but never really gotten a "temporary ban"

i cursed once and some one got mad at me so i told them i didn't care 5 minutes later i got temp banned for 2 days
ohh and by the way all you guys are a bunch of jerk ok Trojans have feelings too they are already sorrowed by the clockworks they don't need to get on the forums just to hear that every one doesn't recognize them as a living breathing emotion feeling statues >:( just because they use lag switches does not give you the right to hate them now go apologize and give a random Trojan a hug saying you care

Why even do it at all?
I mean....can someone give me a reason why you have to use vulgar language?
I understand that for some people, it's just their way of life and they don't mean
to offend anybody but whether or not you mean any offense doesn't matter if someone
else is generally offended by it....and if that's the case, maybe those who find cursing offensive
shouldn't be playing a game on the internet.
But is it really that hard to refrain yourself from typing something vulgar or inappropriate?
For those of you who do swear, please show respect for those of us who don't.
Ephesians 4:29 XD

Why would one say that the sun is bright or that the beautiful plains were just across the hill.
Cursing, as you call it, is nothing but putting emotion into what you are trying to say you call it vulgar i call it another word in my vocabulary. What i don't get is why people get offended by such language or why people say that other words should be used instead. All I mean how would you feel if an entire community were to tell you that you could no longer say blue because they didn't like it. When I'm mad i say [ ] when I'm frustrated i say [ ] when i get bombarded by a mass of people in lock down i say [ ] you I'm going back to Firestorm Citadel. And on top of that if you don't like people cursing keep your [ ] censored and you wont have to see it.

Sorry for the Post. Just really stressed out without Internet & Restricted TV for about 2 Months... Thought I could Share a funny Comic I found. I'll be on Reddit.

what in blue !@$#'s is this !@$#ing thread about!?!?!??!?!....pwease tell meh?

Dude seriously act like you have hit puberty please your not impressing anyone or even being funny

I understand where you're coming from. As I said in my first post, "cursing" or whatever you want to call
it is, to a lot of people, just part of their language. If a whole community told me to stop saying "blue" I admit
I would find that strange. However, I'd like to think that I'd recognize the fact that the word "blue" offends
them and I would do my best to refrain from saying it out of respect . . . at least around them:)
I'm not asking you to change your vocabulary and stop "cussing."
I'm just asking that you show a little bit of respect to those who are offended and do your best to not "cuss."
I know that a lot of people who use this language do show respect which I appreciate and because I don't know you, I can't
judge you. I'm only stating my opinion, which you can listen to or ignore, and I mean no disrespect to any of you.
And as I also posted, I believe that those deeply offended by "cussing" should not be playing on the internet anyways.
Welp, I'm screwed. Gonna end up banned one of these days because of some report-happy git. That said, I may as well get up on my soapbox since this is an issue that's always rubbed me the wrong way no matter where in the world it pops up.
No single word in any language is inherently "bad." These so called curses only have the power you give them, and depend on the context they're used. Saying just "****" isn't offensive. Nor is just going "That ****ing monster totally cheapshotted me!" Calling you (yes, you) a sack of **** is. Hell, I could make any word a curse word with the appropriate context and venom behind it. And if you choose to be offended by a single word no matter the context? Ha! I could offend you far better with a well constructed sentence than with a string of cusses stitched end to end. Should we ban all words used in such a sentence? No. Doesn't help how curses are used more for emphasis or petty insulting now. Nor does it help that even with a filter, damn near everyone that has it activated can fill in the blanks themselves with incredibly little thought (I doubt I need to tell you what words went into the asterisks I put above). Does anyone really think that it "lessens the impact?" Ha. Damn near all game rating boards rate online multiplayer content as unrated for a reason. An MMO is no different.
Do I expect the policy on language to change in responce to this? Do I expect people to stop being dumb and not be offended by a mere word? 'Course not.
*Hops off box*

personally dont care for ppl using foul language as i do that as well so no biggie
bit different when its directed at someone ... that i don't tolerate to well
also depends if its in a group or in haven ... public discourse is something i dont wish to see

Oh snap, so we can't! Guess I'll have to find a set of words to replace my usual swearwords directed at dem monsters and stuff.. however according to what Guy said, these might become swear words too! D:
@Eury (IM CATCHING YOUR ATTENTION LOOK HERE YES DO IT READ IT)
As you said, it's stated in the ToS that any kind of foul language is not allowed, aye? Can you point me to the article that says that? I can't find it myself, I may just be missing it. ^^
@Guardian
I swear because I care. <3 But if I'm in a party and someone says they don't like swearing, sure, I'll stop caring. :<
@Dirt
Oh, it's this cat again.
@Guy
I agree with that.
Yeah, I think that cursing directed as someone is inappropiate and should be a bannable offense.. however, the trojans...

Assuming the players are at least 31 years old, about middle school age, they probably hear worse in the hallways and in school. Swearing should not be an issue at all, unless directed at another player. If you are 1 point of damage away from killing vanaduke, and you are the last one alive, and die from a slag guard, I see no problem with swearing there.
Point: Swearing at non-human objects in the game should be fine.

Oh and this is non related but since you're in this forum. Tersakoff could you send me my stuff through mail plzz <3

Lol Flash. xD
It would've cost 100 cr! D: That's a fortune for me nowadays.

I think you can use swear words only when it's appropriate. For example…
Ok: You encounter an unfortunate death in a level when you're being careless, then cuss out of anger. Big deal. A lot of people do that in video games nowadays.
Not ok: You go up to some random dude in Haven and start aggressively shooting profanity at him/her. Now that's not acceptable, because you're using bad words to offend somebody.

Yus yus, as it's been said already, bad words when used to offend someone are not okay, however when they aren't meant to be offensive...

"Assuming the players are at least 31 years old, about middle school age,"
lol

... oh my god the dude's eyebrows.
;_;
...I think I just found a substitute curse since I can't use the regulars to describe bad situations. :<

What about using regular terms in a suggestive ways? Is that forbidden?
Like: "get your twisted snarble barb ready to enter my gloaming wild woods"
Or: "your little knights are safe in my haven"
LOL.
