Lockdown training hall/tutorial, Lockdown Waiting list AND Penalty for leavers
updated name so it included all my ideas :)
yes,ive experienced it and is very confusing, but now im better, maybe you need confidence or the will to win, yes, something like that is good and highly recomendable to try, jenny the turtle, beleive.
gud luck jenny ;)
... What if you are facing someone who is a particulary unfair player?
What if real life happens and you need to quit?
What if you lose your connection?
What if i suddenly dislike how the other team is base camping?
No, no penalty will ever be imposed.
The fight itself is unfair...not the player.
Or...you can send a video of all players of your team leaving for disconnect, and you wining the macth...its up to you.
So...I agree with the penalty...
Hm...
@ Gear
Yes I am actually gradually getting better :D thanks for that
@Damien
Yes it is the fight itself that's unfair, like saber said
If real life happens, then don't start playing in the first place.
I've had players who've lost connection or be really laggy, and they still stayed and played when the connection was back. And if you're AFK, then they will kick u out anyway, no penalty except for no money back? I think.
Today was fantastic!
4 players of my team leave... At the start of macht one leave...and the others leave 20 sec after^^
So for Damien, probably they all got DC , right?
And guess what?
5 x 1...and the good news is, I lost and they granted me 1 Kromo coin!Yay! Thats good, right Damien? You're probably a fair player...
cmon, where are all the other people?
Just some thoughts here and there about this whole thing.
First of all, I think you have some very good and solid points to this, Jenny.
You mentioned that new players/veteran members who try lockdown or blast network for the first time would have little to no experience when entering the games. I believe this is quite true, cause I recall when I first tried blast network and lockdown for the first time, I wasn't sure what to do. This lead my team to a disadvantage due to me being handicapped in the knowledge of how the game works. You and a few commentators stated about a mission or perhaps an expansion of the advanced training hall. Now while I agree both of these have their good demerits, I believe implementing a simple video demonstrating the objective and new things that are presented in both games would suffice. For instance, if it were your first time playing either game, depending on which pvp game you selected, a message would prompt stating how that since it's your first time attempting to play the selected game, it'd show you a video covering all the basics and info needed for each game.
Also, since Spiral knights doesn't seem too keen with video's, perhaps it could be in the form of more of a cutscene involving the player in the cutscene to give them a better idea. (If any of you went through the new beginner missions to Haven, you'll get an idea of what I mean.)
Another aspect that caught my attention was a "penalty" for leaving a match. Now we can't always prevent the problems that can occur with people leaving. I think instead of focusing on a penalty (since there technically is already one, since the player looses his/her crowns and potential coins), we should find more a solution.
Now I'm not sure about most of you, but most the time when people leave the pvp games I'm in, is during the lobby to the beginning of the match. So perhaps what we could do, is when a player leaves the game during the lobby or near the beginning of the game, another person (who would be waiting for a match) could be brought in to balance out the gap provided by the individual who left.
Now you may be thinking why I suggest only near the start of the game, rather than for the whole game allow people to join if another leaves. First of being that if some random guy/girl joined a game of lets say; "lockdown" and their team won, he'd be rewarded for essentially no work. The opposite applies to this as well, where if he joins a near finished game and his team lost, he basically wastes his crowns.
Now will this stop people completely from leaving? No. You'll get the odd few who will leave near mid or end of the game, BUT the longer a player is in a game, the better chances that they'll stay there. Why? It's because of a simple human behavior in which the longer duration we work on something, and the more closer we get to our reward; the more inclined we are to try and achieve it.
As for the other ideas like the allowing of players to go into fixed groups so that they can have their friends join in on the same game, I think is also a wonderful idea. Keep up the good work Jenny, and I hope to see similar elements mentioned in your posts to be applied sometime in the future.
I'm glad you agree and have had similar experiences. Though, I don't think many games are known for putting up a simple video tutorial for anything. ok, let's say every game that has ever came out, only has a video tutorial at the beginning. There is no actual experience until you are pushed into the actual game. And in the case of sk, any video tutorials have been made by actual players and put on youtube. All external. A video would tell you the basic information, but then you still have to, for example, go into lockdown and find out how everything works. So in the end, all newbies are still newbies who still have to test out each class and how things work. And you did mention a cut scene. Could you give us an idea of what kind of cut scene is possible in context of lockdown or blast network? I just think it wouldn't be possible since I'm sure you're talking about an interactive cut scene (unless I'm wrong) but if it isn't interactive, then it would be the equivalent to a video. I just think back to the cutscenes in the beginning mission and I think, how can that be implemented to lockdown when it's pvp?
In regards to the penalty, it's obvious that people don't care about losing 200cr or a possible krogmo coin because they are so quick to leave (leaving before we even get to the locker room in a lot of cases). And I think it would be too difficult to implement your solution. But when I think about it, A better solution would be to implement a better waiting list and allow players to go in fixed groups. Then we dont have odd people being separated from their friends and then leaving the rest of us poor people to slowly die in lockdown.
I don't get why there needs to be a penalty. Life calls, and you've got more of an obligation to respond to IRL things than balancing a LD match in-game. But LD could DEFINITELY be nicer to newbs, and... well, I'd like to see it possible to restrict LD games, because it would create more of a possibility for end-game LD matchups without having to bother with guilds.
Edit: lawl missed second page of replies n' such. Yeah, that balancing thing looks fine (with players joining early-match).
yeh but there are the people who leave when life doesnt call at all. Like people who leave because they didnt get into the same game as their friends. See a better waiting list or a way to party up with friends would fix this problem.
If you check here, you'll find an in-depth discussion about such a training facitlity--it may negate the need for an outside training area?
Your thoughts?

Well, a training hall expansion would be nice, and since the training hall is one of the missions now people wouldn't possibly be able to miss it.
As of a penalty for leavers: definetley. I hate it when people do that. Just make sure that they lose 5 times the entry fee for quitting, but no reprecurssions for a DC. That way people who want to stay in but have a problem don't get punished for nothing, while those a-holez who can't stand taking a beating get something to think about.
Now at the beginning of the thread there was something about a team-up option as an alternative for Guil-LD. I don't know if you still; want o talk about that, but I've been thinking of that too. It is just way too uneasy to play LD with a friend. However, implement a team-up option, and i'm sure some advanced LD'ers with +4 heart trinkets will form a group to own the whole community.
For your last point, that is quite true. Maybe there could be an option where you get to choose which team you oppose as well? Like a vote or something. Hmm....
and I like you ideas about penalties. Yes, Dc'ers shouldn't be punished because they couldnt help it
