I too, shall thank the developers for not making this directly into another money grab. There was no CE involved in this transaction, and even if I did get jipp'd 100K worth of usable items, I'm glad that it wasn't 2000 CE that I was getting jipped out of. If anything, you've done that right.
Even if I am a bit disappointed (well, not sure whether to be disappointed or to just smile at the players that stay AND complain knowing that you guys will never improve) that you didn't head the huge number of warnings that players first gave you as you posted these changes, you have done well in making it a crown sink. I bet if you make enough crown sinks, you'll get a bigger player base. And I'm also impressed at the number of people whom are putting up, and even supporting this. Its like you're purposefully creating a community that puts up with anything through updates that make people angry. I'm truly intrigued as to how far you guys will go over the summer.

Remember, the only thing you can do with CE besides buy Silver Keys is sell it for Crowns.
This is indirectly a CE sink in the sense people with one UV will probably try to roll for two thanks for the UV locking and sell their massive reserves.
Rather than just using it to buy anything directly with it.
So it really is just a cash grab, aimed at making CE cheaper for the new players they will undoubtedly be trying to bring in with the next update.
Not to mention their last promo manage to rob 750CE from circulating with every $10 purchase with the Lockboxes, so this is obviously meant to put CE back into the economy.
Your not the 1st to thank the game.... Theres been like 500 threads about thanking the game for making spiral knights lol.
