I'm leveling up my mega magnus, and I can't decide between the Callahan or the Iron Slug. First one has piercing, so it'll do massive damage against fiends & beasts, but obviously poor against constructs, which sometimes call for long distence. Slug has longer range and more explodey charge shot (according to wiki), and its normal dam does same to everything, but is it worth it? Whats your opinion?
Looking for lucky punks.
Okay…Callahan is piercing and has stun, which means that you can stun-lock Devilites to devastating effect. On the other hand, you'd be better off handling Constructs with an alchemer, not a Magnus.
And btw Iron Slug and Callahan have the same range, if anyone thinks the Iron Slug has longer reach then it should be a graphical glitch. Slug is plain terrible anyway.
…if you absolutely insist on a neutral gun then get Valiance or Supernova.
I use a Dread Venom Striker, and when I'm not using Archeron as my second weapon (2 slots), I use a gun. Including the Mega Magnus, there's a Blackhawk and a Firey Pepperbox, also an under leveled Shadowtech Alchemer Mk II (which I have the recipie to upgrade). Apparently also I have a Ferice Flamebridge, but I dont use it much. idk why i even have it. Thank you for the advice so far.
You have some good weapons there. The basic idea is to carry two (or three) non-normal damage types, and deploy them against the correct monsters, to deal big damage as often as possible. This idea applies to swords, to guns, and to mixtures of swords and guns. It doesn't really apply to bombs, which are idiosyncratic. So here are some decent loadouts you can make:
* Acheron (shadow), Callahan (piercing)
* Furious Flamberge (piercing), Sentenza or Umbra Driver (shadow)
I'm a little surprised that you don't have any elemental weapons. It's not that they're required, it's just that new players tend to flock to them. You might consider getting an elemental gun. The reason is that swords can have trouble against fields of turrets, and so you may want to use a gun on turrets, and all turrets are either vulnerable (gun puppies, howlitzers) or neutral (polyps) to elemental damage. This enables two more very good loadouts:
* Acheron (shadow), elemental gun
* Furious Flamberge (piercing), elemental gun
I especially recommend the last combination: piercing sword with elemental gun. Then you are strong against beasts, fiends, undead, and constructs. You are not strong against slimes and gremlins, but you're not really weak either. Against gremlins, the piercing swords are almost as good as the shadow swords. Against slimes, an elemental gun is fine.
How many weapon slots do you use (2, 3, or 4), and what weapons do you put in them?
In particular, do you carry more than one gun? If so, then there is no particular reason to carry a normal gun. Instead, carry two (or three) non-normal guns, to be able to deal big damage to a wider variety of monsters.
If you carry only one gun, then do you also carry swords? If so, then consider getting an elemental gun. The reason is that swords can have trouble against turrets, so you want to use your gun on those, and all turrets are vulnerable or neutral to elemental damage.
If you carry only one gun, and either don't carry swords or just want more flexibility from your gun, then get a normal gun. The usual recommendation is Valiance (nice damage, nice knockback, nice mobility), but Iron Slug should be usable.
Finally, you might be thinking, "I've already invested in the Magnus line to 4-star, so I don't want to give up now." But keep in mind that most of the cost in making a 5-star item comes in the final upgrade from 4-star to 5-star. So you are not really that invested in a line, until you have the 5-star version. In other words, make sure you aren't throwing good money after bad. Good luck.
