Lost Knights Theory?

Trojans are described by the wiki as knights that have been lost to the clockworks, which turn into the giant knight that a Trojan is. All Trojans have that crystal in their back, which is their weak point. (Possibly their power source?) Arkus is an example of this too.
Now, we carry back minerals from the clockworks. These minerals somewhat resemble crystal formations. We carry these on our backs and bring them back to be dispensed into the gates. Could it be that these crystals are somehow related to Trojans? Possibly corrupted by the crystal?

I carry Crimsonite almost all the time.

DAMMIT! D:
You guys figured out the basics of my Were-trojan powers!!! D:<
But you still don't know the uber seekrit keyword to infuse yourself with the crimsonite, so I'm still the only Were-trojan IN THE WORLD!!(or at least Cradle) MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-cough choke hack.
You guys think I'm weird don't you. ( ._.)

Man I need some mashed potatoes.

Neigh.
Grunt.

I always thought that Dark Matter is the crystal the Trojans carry on their backs. It also makes sense, as minerals give energy and it is the fuel we use in gates. What is more, to me Trojans are made by someone, who influences lost Knights with it and makes them zombie like, until their former life is no more and they become Trojans. Or, it could be contamination. The process would be this:
1a - Whoever does this, seeks a Knight which is weak-minded or in real trouble.
2a - Once s/he finds one, s/he implants when unconscious/off-guard a small Dark Matter crystal on their backs.
1b - A Knight mines many amounts of Dark Matter.
2b - He gets careless and has an accident while mining, and some Dark Matter sticks to his body, and doesn't notice this.
3 - The Dark Matter, being an ominous crystal, powered by dark forces and negative energies, grows little by little, making the victim even more negative or obsessive about their thoughts.
4 - The afflicted Knight becomes antisocial due to the state of mind s/he is being forced on.
5 - Finally, the Dark Matter snaps through the vital processes of the Knight, and turns it effectively into a zombie like being. The victim is dead at this point.
6 - The Dark Matter, giving energy to this zombie being, makes it stronger to make its resting place stronger, though this causes all biological matter to disappear as a side-effect as it continues to feed on its body, which is replaced by earthly chemicals and turning this zombie being into a "rockish being": The complete form of a Trojan.
Dark Matter, all in all, can only bring bad effects to Knights and its only safe application may be as fuel in Gate construction. Though, I may be interested in the effects in Knights of the other 3 minerals. For science.

Trojan have a lot of pruplish lines, similar to those circles you find on Dark City and other fiends levels.
Devilites are just trying to trasnform us into one of them and the crystal is used to channel their dark magic.
I base this theory on the description of "The Return of Ur" mission.
"A Recon squad has reported that deep within a fiendish city, devilites are attempting to summon a legion of powerful tojan warriors. Based on intel from a devilite internal memo, the trojans are known as the 'Legion of Ur,' and are said to have once numbered in the thousands. Strangely, the memo indicated that the Legion of Ur was sealed away in the Underworld and that an alternative approach would be required for bringing them back."
What I'm thinking is that devilites invoke the spirit/soul of some dark beings while our bodies serve as hosts.

Let's put all these ideas together with one more. Necromancy Gems. They are containers for undead souls for use of ressurecting dead bodies. You need a controlled spirit as a channeler for the corpse. Now, with what Juance said, the devilites use the trapped souls of the Underworld to create undead Trojans with a necro gem placed into the body of the fallen knight. Now the process isn't entirely requiring a dead body, like Arkus. Arkus was dead but alive. His will was broken which made his body an easy target for possession. He and the dark soul merged (in a sorts) and he become a fallen knight, numb to emotion but still living. Once his soul would die, his corpse would then be fully in use of the dark soul. And if all else fails: Aliens
STOP CARRYING CRYSTALS!!!!
