Piercing weapons don't crit on Vanaduke?

I always thought they did that critical damage to duke, the big yellow damage markers are effective/crit damage but I've never seen them on the duke before, I've been okay with this as I've thought it was a bug but I need to know the truth here before I experience buyer's remorse.

Since you guys tend to know everything about weapons and damage values, I thought I'd post it here. I'm pretty sure this is the right place to post it as I'm asking for damage more than "why don't crits show up" but my friend has used the Volcanic Pepperbox on Vanaduke a lot, and he JUST got a plague needle so he knows that they will do the same damage at level 10, so this is actually a major problem because isn't vanaduke supposed to be weak to piercing?

Vanaduke is weak against piercing by a little bit, not by much. So you shouldn't worry.
Also, crit number appearance sometimes deceiving. Based on my experience, with max damage blitz needle charge I got 216 damage with crit damage colors. However, when vanaduke get poisoned by vials, I got 242 damage with normal/non crit damage colors. People said the color turned back to normal if damage is really high. Probably because it got poisoned too.

um

He IS weak to piercing, it's just that damage numbers are glitchy. Try using the initial swing of Divine Avenger's charge against elemental-weak monsters, it shows up as neutral damage.

But I don't use my charge attack.

Yeah that's nice and all, I'm well aware that charge attacks can be too strong to crit but this is with normal attacks.

Normal volleys on my Blight Needle don't crit. What's up with that? The volleys on the Volcanic Pepperbox and Plague Needle look like they're going to be the same at level 10, according to my friend who has a level 8 plague.

only the numbers matter, right?

There's something funny with the colors. But only the numbers matter, right? You're getting big numbers from piercing weapons, right, No-Fun-Allowed?

@Bopp

Well normally outside of vanaduke, I see the bigger, yellow numbers whenever I damage an enemy with it's weakness, but at vanaduke no matter what I do my damage numbers look normal, as if they're neutral.

But if I don't see the colors it makes me think I'm doing neutral damage. I don't mind it with charge attacks but with normal attacks it feels kinda fishy.

Well, that's how it is : from day 1, the color of damage numbers was buggy on some common edge cases (notably the too high damage, happens very often with poison).

Although the big yellow numbers are gratifying, what actually counts is the number.

He is only slightly weak to piercing, unlike wolvers, or devilites, which are very weak to piercing.

Plague Needle has numbers on wiki

Here's a test, to settle the issue definitively (unless the numbers on the wiki are wrong):

Check whether your numbers are (slightly) bigger than the depth-28 damage numbers for Plague Needle against undead and gremlins.

Spiral Knights doesn't have

Spiral Knights doesn't have "Critical hits". No matter how many times you attack vana, if you use the same attack and the same weapon, it does the same damage.

Sigh...

Try to understand that "Critical Hit" doesn't have the same meaning in all games. He's not talking about crits as you see them in TF2, by critical he means doing effective damage (when normally you see the brown-yellow numbers with stars).

If Vana's poisoned, the damage numbers that pop up will never be orange because of the wonky damage modifiers.
