I currently have Cobalt and Jelly (both 3*) sets, but I 'm aiming for Elemental on the grounds that constructs deal part elemental damage at T2. Is it a good option, and can I use it (at higher levels) for Vanaduke?
In terms of weapons, I am using a fireburst brandish and a firotech Mk II. Is there a better option to deal more damage? I can only get to 3* easily, which would be the best loadout?
Roarmulus Twins: Elemental set a good option?
I have a Wyvern scale shield and a horned owlite shield. I'm guessing Horned Owlite is better due to it's Fire/Shock resistance, but the Wyvern scale shield has more shield 'health'.
Wyvern is horrible due to not having any normal resistance. Most things do split damage (especially before T3) : special + normal. It's going to break much faster than most other shields.
You should drop it (I mean, stop upgrading it and using it) right now and concentrate on other shields.
On the other hand, Owlite is very popular for a reason : it's great for both Roarmulus Twins and Vanaduke. Go for it.
To sum up, your loadout is :
- Fireburst brandish
- Firotech MKII
- Horned Owlite Shield
- piercing armor
You are already more than ready to do Roarmulus twins. A part of elemental armor could help, but you can manage without it.
Tho you should take a weapon to deal with gremlins.
Fradow is giving you good advice. If you haven't already done so, read the wiki page "Damage".
Learn the damage types, to which each monster family is vulnerable and resistant. Then you will understand that your weapons are weak against gremlins (and beasts), because your weapons are all elemental, and these monsters resist elemental damage. Get a shadow weapon (or a piercing weapon) to deal with gremlins.
In Tier 1, monsters deal almost entirely normal damage. As you go deeper in the Clockworks, monsters increasingly deal their preferred damage type. However, even in Tier 3 there is still a lot of normal damage being dealt. So you should always have some normal armor, and your shield should always have some normal resistance. This is why the Wyvern Scale Shield line is not great.
A final piece of advice, which Fradow did not address, is that some armors are purely defensive, while other armors trade some defense for offensive bonuses. In Tier 3 even the strongest defensive armor lets through tons of damage. So you can't count on your armor for defense; you have to dodge and shield well. For this reason, most advanced players select armor with offensive bonuses. Look into the Wolver, Gunslinger, and Demo lines (and Chaos and Fallen).
Yeah, If you are a sword user get a Vog set & a Grey Owlite Shield and you will be set for FSC & ICMF. Also, RJP is no problem in Vog, as 5* gear is pretty overpowered here. ICMF is not a big deal to do in non-Elemental 4* armor either, especially if you have a 4* or 5* Owlite shield to tank the boss fight (don't try to tank the lasers).
The wiki states that both Gremlin and Construct deal elemental damage, which was why I'm considering the set. In terms of weapons, I have the fireburst, a nightblade, and a tempered calibur, I guess I'll take the first two. Owlite seems like a better option now. But is a gun really essential here?
Current loadout:
Elemental Hood
Elemental Cloak
Horned Owlite Shield
All three offer elemental and normal defence, along with fire and shock resistance.
Fireburst Brandish (For construct) (I'm getting an Avenger soon)
Nightblade (For Gremlin)
I only have two weapon slots.
I would advise you to not take the element cloak. You don't need it that much, and it will probably be useless later on. Let's consider what you can upgrade it to :
- Divine Mantle : you shouldn't use both Divine part (because no normal defense is madness), and the Veil is better because it has a fiend bonus the mantle doesn't have (one of the weird thing on armor sets which still haven't been fixed)
- Chaos Cloak have status debuff, which makes it an armor for "pro" who can manage it. And the bonus it has only benefit people who use several weapon types, which is not your case
- Grey Feather Mantle, while being good, doesn't have any shiny weapon bonus like, for example, Wolver series
On the other hand, Elemental Hood evolve in Divine Veil, which is :
- perfect for an all-around set paired with Skolver Coat
- very good for FSC, due to elemental defense(mask phase, fire), shadow defense (zombies) and fire resistance (there is fire everywhere) + a fiend damage bonus for Trojans
As for the gun, no it's not essential. It's certainly easier to deal with switches and turrets, but there are pot for switches everywhere it's needed and you can deal with turrets with a sword. And you can hopefully rely a little on your mates.
Fireburst and Nightblade makes a very good combo for IMF.
If you find yourself really wishing to have a gun, consider Calibur + your usual elemental gun. Or, for Roarmulus specifically, Nightblade because everything is weak or neutral to shadow there.
Edit : thanks Bopp, corrected
"Fireburst and Nightblade makes a very good combo for FSC."
I think that Fradow meant IMF; Nightblade is nearly useless in FSC. Otherwise, I agree with him. Grey Feather Mantle/Cowl is pretty good, but there are better sets that offer offensive bonuses. If you want a single, general-purpose armor set, then pursue Divine Veil with a normal+piercing armor such as Skolver Coat. Chaos is fun, but dangerous. Otherwise, do not pursue these lines.
You do not need a gun in IMF, although it can make certain parts quicker and safer. (I'm thinking of running through criss-crossing missile fire, where you have to hit switches to open gates to proceed.) You might want a gun in FSC someday --- either Blitz/Plague for parties (probably) or something like Argent Peacemaker for solo.
Avenger/DA is a nice sword. But you should regard it as a low priority, because you already have a really nice elemental sword (Fireburst/Combuster). Consider getting a piercing sword, if you don't already have one. Since you seem to be into swords, try my sword guide.
OK, so I ditch the cloak and take the 3* cobalt armor. I have an avenger now (yay!) and I'll use it with nightblade. Thanks for the help!
Great. But don't upgrade that Cobalt armor; there are much better armors around.
For vanaduke, you'll need more fire resistance than elemental defense. But it's still a good option to take elemental defense for Roarmulus Twins.
In particular, Magic Hood makes a very popular 5* helm : Divine Veil.
But what's more important is your shield : you'll need an elemental shield before an elemental armor. The reason is you should really be dodging/blocking everything and not get hit that much, and for that you need a reliable shield.
For weapons, there isn't much more options at 3*. Argent Peacemaker line is elemental starting at 4*, and Divine Avenger line too. There is the Polaris gun, but you need to do the Twins in the first place. But I advise you to take a shadow or normal weapon down there, as there are some gremlins, which are not ideal dealt with elemental.
