to answer your question, no; if you want to solo Vanaduke, start out with an Argent Peacemaker and progress to Blitz Needle.

that's why i told him to start out with it

Even if it doesn't hit as hard against Vanaduke as before, it still provides excellent mobility--the perfect gun for an inexperienced player.

mask

I use Valiance for mask phase in duo/solo, or if I'm water-thrower in a larger party.

You can throw water, sit outside of the black orbs and shoot valiance with minimal movement.

There are much better options for this though.

Valiance isn't good for anything. No type, no status, and if you must have knockback, Supernova does it so much better.

Argent Peacemaker seems to be

Argent Peacemaker seems to be the most effective gun against Vanaduke for soloing, but the Valiance could be an effective weapon on the mask phase. Overall, go with an Argent Peacemaker.

In soloing, Valiance does

In soloing, Valiance does more damage to vana than the AP, you can still kite just as quickly, its bullets hit vana more reliably than a Supernova's, its bullets can do knockback from close up, unlike the Supernova (unless you count the charges), Valiance knockback is more reliable and more predictable, etc.

After Blitz the best gun

After Blitz the best gun against Vanaduke is Supernova, with maxed gun damage iirc i did around 200dmg to him in normal phases and around 220dmg to the mask phases. Argent Peacemaker doesn't offer you the best moblity, just because it has a massive clip. If anything the huge clip is forcing you into walking slow all the time while dealing punny damage, can't remember exactly the number but i think i did like 70 dmg to vana with a vh dmg bonus for guns. Knockback is also pretty much useless in the Vanaduke fight and even then, you are using a gun you should be taking a distance when using it and it doesn't take too much to have the bullets expand. Also, Supernova has the advantage of the huge splash projectiles, there is really no contest for this gun, other than Blitz Needle.

Valiance is not a bad gun for

Valiance is not a bad gun for Vana, but basically, there are better guns; such as, blitz needle, argent peace, supernova, etc.... (see the above_

Valiance can arguably be better than Supernova in terms of knockback as it kb's reliably on each shot, and is more controllable, whereas Supernova shots need to expand, and fling stuff all over. But, i digress, that's a different arguement ;)

Hit more reliably?!

Hit more reliably?! supernova's expanded blasts often hit right through the fireballs! And if you use polaris you not only get the elemental advantage against the thousands of slags, but you also get Shock!

@Batabii

Not in my experience. It does on occasion, but i certainly wouldnt say often. Most effective gun for Vana is blitz, then Polaris (shock is godly when it comes to stopping Vana's charge, but does reduced damage), and I'd say supernova and Valiance are equally effective. I prefer the Valiance, because frankly it's fun to use, and is still effective.

Remember Batabii, while you are often correct when you say that someone is not using an optimal offensive/defensive loadout, there are other factors involved in people's playstyles. For instance, there is no reason why I would use a Triglav by your reasoning, when i have several other more effective items in my arsenal. By my reasoning, going with an all normal loadout of Triglav/Supernova/Valiance/Volcanic Pepperbox is simply an additional challenge, and frankly it's enjoyable. ALso, Valiance looks cool.

.

Soloing Vana took me much longer with the AP than with a Polaris (still took ages) and that was while the AP still did split Piercing/Elemental damage. Shock is very helpful for interupting Vana's attacks. Basically if you want to make a gun to solo Vana, make a Blitz otherwise be prepared for a long fight.

Also, Supernova seems like a worthless idea. It has all of the annying problems of the Polaris without the Shock status.

Given the choice I would pick my Polaris over my Valiance to solo Vana (though I would not bother with either, but take a Blitz instead).

Point out all those annoying problems, seriously. Oh right, it blasts Vanaduke across the room! Its funny that you mention Polaris as being better while Supernova has the same exact mechanics and does almost twice the damage of Polaris to Vanaduke.

So much claim about what gun

So much claim about what gun is supposed to be more powerful .... did someone actually calculate at least a theorical dps for each weapon ? I can't do that because I don't own Supernova nor Valliance (and to be honest, I am not that interested in that debate ... I'd take the gun I am the most comfortable with, the difference in time to kill is probably minimal, once you take autoguns out of the comparison).

Both Valiance and Supernova

Both Valiance and Supernova are triple-shot guns so I don't know what you want to calculate. Clean Valiance base damage never goes over 100 (98 damage to monsters on depth 28, Vanaduke not included as he has some resistance to normal damage).

Does they have the same exact

Does they have the same exact fire rate and reload time ? Because if they don't, you want to compare dps and not raw damage (which would be comparing apples to oranges). Same problem goes for comparisons with Argent Peacemaker.

Just to say that instead of arguing, providing some concrete numbers (and eventually reasonable interpretation) would settle the debate much faster.

Just tested, 135 damage with Valiance, 200 damage with Supernova (while having maxed gun damage), didn't perform any tests on the rate of fire but from my general experience is that they are roughly the same. Just tested firing rate in ATH, both get 30 series in one minute without any ASI.
