I love role playing but if I have to follow someone's story line, use their developed characters and their rules of what your character is supposed to do, it sounds more like a dictatorship forcing me to write what they want me to write rather than role playing. There's spontaneity that occurs in between people during role play that leads a story down it's winding path. If that story is already laid out and I'm to follow it, I'll just be continually asking in tell and message, "What do you want me to write now?" The dictator might as well write the story themselves. In true role play, a story can't be dictated because one can only react or try to lead others in a certain direction. You can't force others to react the way you want them too. The fun and creativity comes from reactions to actions and the relationships between characters that grow and change during the play. A role play story is that which has been created and laid down in the role play then has been written down to tell that story rather than other way around. The other way around is more like someone writing a play and hiring actors to carry it out.
