Is there a purpose to doing Shadow Lairs other than crafting in the Sanctuary?

E-peen points and boss

E-peen points and boss tokens, I guess.
Also, fun and the closest thing to a real challenge in this game.

Shadow Lair mats are also worth a lot. Stuff like Maiden's Tears and Gremlonium can make up about 80% of the key's cost on the AH

Yes

You learn more about the story. And that there is more to the Shadow Lairs than you think.

Uhh...

How many Maiden's Tears and Gremloniums does a run yield on an average?
And the wiki says "Maiden's Tears can be obtained from the The Sanctuary after completing the Shadow Lair Firestorm Citadel." So does that mean no Maiden's Tears in Snarby, RT, and JK Shadow Lairs?

You get a Maiden's Tear after the Shadow Lair FSC. You get a Gremlonium after the Shadow Lair Ironclaw Munitions Factory. Both, if you're lucky, can go for about 60k. On average, they got for around 30k. 29k is about 450 CE. 450CE x 4 players = 1800 which is the cost of the Key.

You get a Nightmare Mane after the Rabid Snarby. Those go for only about 20k on average. Ice Queen gets you Celestial Ore, which is about 10k on a good day, average about 8k. IQ and Snarby are the two most run Shadow Lairs.
