Having actually made a new alt for this and played earlier on, this isn't the full boss. True, the actual bit where you kill him is basically just a fight with a glorified Gremlin Scorcher, but anyway.
He steals back the shiny blue thing in the background, though, after you take it (it's picked up like a crystal) in the next mission (Crossing the Chasm).
