Perhaps if it had a chance to inflict Stun per shot. I'd like to see this gun used more often as it seems very very unpopular [for good reason]
Making the Prisma Driver viable?
I think the point of the Prismatech guns is that they don't have an element, but still offer elemental damage.
If you shoot an Oiler lichen with the Firotech series of guns, for example, you'll set it on fire. That's not so great, since burning Oilers can spread the love to players. I assume similar for shock and Quicksilver lichens, Ice Cube jellies, and other such elemental monsters. From the wiki, it seems that monsters can also be healed by such effects.
If you happen to face all of the above in a run between sub-towns, the Prismatech can guarantee that you have reliable elemental damage that won't get the negative effects of shooting those enemies, while the other elemental guns guarantees that you will run into a monster that benefits from your attacks. (Yes, I realize you have at least one other weapon slot.)
Judging by the images in the wiki, the Prismatech and Shadowtech (both with no status affliction) do have a slight damage bonus over their typed counterparts. (The Prismatech line doesn't keep this advantage in later upgrades though; maybe this is a bug or should be fixed?)
In defense of cryotech...
Ice Cubes don't gain any abilities from being shot with one if they're already frozen. And if they are unthawed (which only occurs if you set them on fire), you just refreeze them. Not that big of a deal
I use the Firotech line. The chance of doing an extra 40 damage to enemies I usually hit for 9 is definitely way worth the risk of running into some Oilers. I once solo gun-kited a T2 arena's third room's final wave of Gremlin Demos and Wolvers just using the fire status to whittle them down.
The Prismatech line is strictly inferior right now; it definitely needs to either do more damage against all enemies or BUTTLOADS more against a particular enemy to make people not feel bad about using it.
I say just make it do more damage by like 10-20 points AND NO THAT !!IS!! fair compared to fire being inflicted..
I could definitely see stunning making it more popular. Among other things, that would slow down enemies as they chased after you - potentially giving you the time to pop off another couple of shots. That's not nothing.
I wouldn't mind stun, or just having this weapon deal slightly more damage than the other elemental alchemers. It does need something to make up for the lack of status infliction.
Make the split shot go in two directions, four when charged.
I don't find Stun Status suitable for elemental damage. Elemental damage are dealt by attacks without a physical component (like energy, lasers, flames) and Stun status sounds like something dealt by solid, physical, large and heavy objects (at least in SK - so far weapons that may cause Stun are Heavy Hatchet, Thwack Hammer, Troika, Magnus and such).
That's why I think that increasing Prisma Alchemer damage output is much better solution that adding Stun status to it.
Also nerfing status Alchemers may work well ;-D
prismatech should have a dmage bonus against undead
They should have knock back on charged shots, so they can be BLINDED BY SCIENCE.
Maybe higher attack speed or charge time reduction something.
Honestly I can't imagine a chance for stun making it any more popular. The way the stun status works now, with a duration that usually wears off before the monster would have decided to attack again anyways, I just can't find myself caring too much about stun.
I could get "good chance of moderate stun" as a UV on some random weapon (note: that's not even possible. Talking theoretically here) and I'd be like, "Aw man I wanted a low damage bonus versus.. anything." :P
Maybe the prismatic alchemer series just needs to do even more damage than the status-inflicting ones? I mean, right now they do a LITTLE more, but last I heard it was only a point or two worth of extra damage.
