I feel that Spiral Knights has done the right thing with this patch. Now, the rescue camp is totally epic, and more people will stay. Honestly, you should have done that years ago. Still, I fell that the media needs to be updated. When I thought of joining SK, that is the FIRST place I went. And the trailer is shockingly full of outdated content. Even the screenshots are outdated. Discuss?

Hrm...
I agree that newer media should be uploaded to represent more recent versions of the game, so +1 for that.
However, I personally find it a little intriguing to look back at some of the old content. Perhaps there could be something like a media timeline/history that contains old and new media?

I can remember the time when I saw the magikat hat on the trailer a year ago (still hasnt been updated) and thought: WOW! I WANT THAT HAT. A timeline of Spiral knights would be awesome!

Also just saying they should show that gremlins are the main enemies in the trailer.

Magikat hats EVERYWHERE.
In the media, you see Magikat hats about 6 times. In the trailer, 0:13 I think, and also 5 of the screenshots include magikat hats! Although it is fun to see outdated stuff... If they showed scenes from missions, and from the rescue camps, the trailer would be x5 cooler, and thus attract more players :)

Okay, green sealed sword's not that amazing. It was still green until maybe 3-4 months ago when they changed the SS line graphics.

What if someone would join
What if someone would join just because he saw dat kool kat hat? Or found that green fancy sword extremly amusing?
If he would start playing just because of that, and then find out that those items dont exist anymore its false advertising. OOO shows things that dont exist anymore.

Priority problem?
The question is whether they should place the updating of media at a higher priority relative to new content and the like.
I would prefer a media update. Mainly because I still have quite a way to go before I enter end-game territory.
Of course, people in the end-game would want the new content over the media update. I think.

Really, Ghret, comparing media update to new content? How much it takes to do a screenshot? 5 seconds. GM can teleport anywhere so he can take perfect scenes on the spot. After taking screenshots its 5 minutes to crop and optimize them in batch conversion.
Making new movie? For 3 min short clip it can take max 1 hour to record scenes and combine them into movie.
Also if OOO would be smart they could make open contest for best game promo screenshots or vid so all they would do will be choosing one of them.

Because this is what I write.
Suggestion:
Hold a competition to people editing videos, to come up with new trailers (kind of like what TF2 did a while back with their contest, but only for trailers). Have players edit, create, and upload their trailer to youtube or elsewhere, and then judge them in whatever way pleases you. This would save a ton of time on your part, OOO, and would easily get the job done.
Give out CE prizes to whoever's video wins- I'd suggest 10K CE for first, 5K CE for second, and 2.5K CE for third. Maybe tack on some beta items/steam hats to it, even.

Fehzor, I think that would be perfect contest. I was ready to actually make the contest myself a while back, but then I wanted a GF, and got a little sidetracked.
Asukalan, you are entirely right. That is why I made this petition in the first place, because it is amazing that they have not taken one hour of their day and updated the media, as that is first impressions. They matter. And that is why they actually made the rescue camp fun, because they realized that their old rescue camp was as boring as sin, and that is why some did not give the game a chance.

"I was ready to actually make the contest myself a while back" Well imo that should be an OOO job, sure, if we are desperate we could do it alone, but whats the point? The winner will have a fancy SK vid on his youtube account and on site there would be still old one.
OOO should open eyes, make a move and do official contest instead of using players to do the 'drity job'.
The only part where players could exist would be making vids and then doing pre voting, imo, with choosing from amongst all entries , the 3-5 best ones and then OOO would choose final winner or even few winners.
