As in the subject. I would love to contribute.
My language: Polish.
(FYI: I realize that they will tell if they need anything, this is just a "preemptive aplication" :D)
How can one help translating SK?
IMHO most of the games simply have some sort of personnel - such as moderators - that is not hired, but voluntary.
And I assure you there are some PL folks in the game. Both their English and manners are terrible, and "polishing" announcements etc. can help to keep them civilized, yet playing (EDIT: the rest does not need it, but I have a bad luck of running at some bad people). The entire game - now that is something a bit different here, but since I do have a translational background, I do not mind that task to be considered. I would actually like to stretch my vocuabulary, as for now I use mostly technical/medical/analytical terms.
There is no need for translating SK, i'm Polish too but this is an international game and should stay as it is, in English. Just try translating "slime" for example, you'll see that you can't translate everything without changing the meaning.
"slime" - ADnD books? Have you read any of them? Their translations are what seems to work out quite well - all monsters arethere, and way more than we can ever experience in SK. Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter series are both a very good experience in Polish! Besides: I would like to help my primary addiction.
Also: I used to play sme MMOs and having the announcements translated is something that cannot really harm anypony :)
I saw in some games that Devs published whole spreadsheets of words/sentences/names that exist in whole game so volounters can translate it.
Unfortunatly i have a feeling that language files are hardcoded into client since it took a while OOO to do some extra translations (recent patch) so its not that easy.
Also what Axorpl said. Polish community is not big while languages like Spanish/French/German (or similar languages) are used in more than one country. Thats why they are included.
Well, there's also a lot of typos in the German translation. Can those be reported as a bug?
On a completely unrelated note:
"Also: I used to play sme MMOs and having the announcements translated is something that cannot really harm anypony :)"
"anypony"
Please keep it to yourself.
@Asukalan - "Unfortunatly i have a feeling that language files are hardcoded into client since it took a while OOO to do some extra translations (recent patch) so its not that easy." - believe me mate, changing of the text itself is a simple task. The only possible difficulty is that of the frames that text is to be inserted in. If the frames are ok, then nothing is too difficult :)
@ Doofta - "Please keep it to yourself." - haters gonna hate, but ponies are awesome :) If you have a child and watch it regardless of your own will, you may come to the realization that the creators of this cartoon are actually thinking about the adults as well. This is the closest thing to "Looney Toons" after "Animaniacs"!
Hi! We don't have plans to translate SK into Polish at the moment as far as I'm aware. With that said, next time we're hiring GMs, if you do speak another language along with English, be sure to mention it if you apply!
With regards to typographical errors in German (or any other language!), please do let us know. A bug report works, as do support requests or e-mails. Please be sure to include the exact text that includes the typo (for instance, rather than saying "there's a typo in the place with the thing", say "when I go to the place with the thing, it says "hail, good knight, go forth and do sutff!" instead of "go forth and do stuff!"); that saves the folks whose job it would be to fix it from doing loads and loads of scrolling and makes fixing it a whole lot simpler. Thanks!
You'll need to apply for a paid position at OOO and prove that there is enough of a Polish fanbase to justify a translation of everything into yet another language.
