taken item acquired by other party member?

Hello. I'm really new to this game (so sorry if I made a stupid question D: )

so something weird just happened,
I was searching for Brimstone with a party member and the flying monster dropped it. I swear I was the one who took it (the other party member was far from me/the item). It flashes under my character as usual, but in the announcement it said 'mypartymembersname obtained brimstone' and it happened again 2-3 more times instead of my name who took it.
I checked my arsenal and I didn't get the item.

is that normal?? DDDD:
my party member had no idea at all why he got that item,
so.... what just happened actually?

Drops

Any party member can pick the item up not just you and when they do you will all see the item name and who picked it up in the chat box. And you all get the item (the item will flash over all your heads).

You don't all get the item.

Item drops are randomly distributed. The player named is the one who happened to get it.

but I didn't get the item

but I didn't get the item while the other party member who didn't pick it up got it. so that's why I feel strange :(

edit: oh it's randomly distributed.... that clears it up. thank you!
