Effervescence

This is the first fanfic that I have decided to write. It will cover nearly everything, including The Core, the knights (of course!), the Great Colony, The Swarm, Sanctuary and whatever I decided to add later. However, Arkus will not be in unless he could explain where did he get the energy to revive thousands of times everyday (do not reply on this bit, thx!)
I plan to write it quite large so it will be on for a long time. Since this is the first story I am writing, please be expected to spot grammatical errors as well as minor inconsistencies in the story.
Should be updated on every Saturday unless I cannot access the internet on that day.

Anyway, this story is now open for character applications! Feel free to post any characters you have below, with the details. If there are missing bits, I will fill them for you :3 However, there is still a basic format:

Name:
Gender and Age:
Loadout:
(Anything you wanna add)

DISCLAIMER: By submitting the character, you have admitted the right for the author to freely alter, pwn, kill, or make your character pwn anyone. You have also agreed that the author could put a sudden death to your character anytime, if it is needed by the story.

Finally, Wish me good luck everyone!
GL HF! (You could add "Vivid-Gluttony" in game to show your support, but I am relatively new... XD)

Prologue

The prologue is out! I am quite sad to see that no one has responded, but I will continue!

Prologue

The elevator door opened and soft blue glow was spilt out from the elevator, lighting the gigantic but dusty platform for a brief moment before disappearing into the darkness.
A female figure emerged from the dim elevator, stepping out slowly as if she didn’t care about the darkness surrounding. Through the residue of the bright flash, others could only see her long, flowing hair in a nostalgic tone of deep blue, with matching
Suddenly, the dome lightened, revealing some other knights resting in the corners where light could not reach, either sleeping, polishing their weapons or weirdly, meditating.
And afloat in the middle of the colossal steal forged dome was a huge, metallic being known as the Core. The Core had no eyes, but he could see farer than anyone knight or being. The Core has no ears, but it could hear more sharply than any rabbits, bats or insects. The Core has no mouth, but it could speak in the most emotional and rational way, convincing nearly everyone.
The gentle yet deafening voice of the Core boomed. “So…finally you have decided to come? I guess you have known the truth, right?”
Without answering, the female figure continued her walk, pacing slowly towards the middle of the platform, the only place where dim sunlight could pass through the endless depths of the Clockworks.
“How about Kozma and Feron?” the Core continued to question this newcomer.
She continued walking until she reached the patch of sunlight. Holding it in her palms, she spoke for the first time she had descended here from Haven.
“Kozma refused, saying that he has his own mission…Feron…” she made an unintentional pause, as if gathering the old, fading memories. “Feron seems quite confused…”
The Core spoke. “Anyway, welcome to the Forseers, V…”
She lifted her right hand deliberately, gesturing a sign which means, “stop”.
The Core halted. Though the hand of the girl was nothing larger than that of a miniature doll in the sight of the Core, he could sense a strong sense of determination, coupled with…
Sadness and guilt.
She stared into the patch of light thousands of kilometers above as if she could see through all the barriers into Haven.
She stayed standing as if all feelings were numbed. Gradually all the other knights joined her staring blankly into the abyss above.
Vindy…

He wandered across the chilling cold streets of Haven aimlessly. The downtown streets were void of people, as everyone was either on the battlefield or warming themselves in their nice, cozy apartments.
He wandered across the emptiness of Haven searching. Everyone had departed from him. He was alone. Frightened. Hungry.
The raging winds brought snowflakes to his body. The snowflakes did nothing except for attaching onto his body for a brief moment, seizing his remaining ember of heat and then run from him, striding in the freezing air of winter but leaving him alone.
Alone……
He continued to wander through the coldness that existed both physically and spiritually. Then the light in his pupils began to wither, and his limbs trembling from the deadly coldness that is overtaking his mind and body.
His body stooped as the lethal cold further seized control of his life. Finally he collapsed in a quiet corner where no one would discover his death.
He gazed into the blank sky covered by clouds dimmer than the night. He was afraid.
Don’t…please don’t leave me here…I am…scared…
Sitting motionless in an unremembered corner, he was dying.
A claw of shadow approached from the back, inch by inch closing in, trying to claim the unfortunate victim once the last spark of life had left.
His blue pupils expanded and a shade of darkness overtook his bright eyes.
But then he saw light…true, divine light coming from above and raising a helping hand.
And failed to notice the slightest shade of darkness embedded in it.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 is done in two hours, nearly max writing cap...except that I am surfing on youtube and the forum...
Could do better next time, but still a good try :3

Chapter 1: The Purple and the Red

It was evening. The sky of Haven was blazed by an unusually beautiful streak of crimson separating the sky into 2. It was like a fine piece of silk woven and tossed by some celestial being into the dimming sky.
Vindeus apparently wasn’t aware of nightfall. He was squatting on one side of a pavement, observing a cute little snipe with orange and yellow stripes.
Gently, he put his left hand forward. The curious snipe edged forward cautiously, sniffing in the air if there was any scent of danger. Then, once it felt a farmiliar smell left by his fellow friends, he began flapping his wings, coolly evading Vindios’ palm and landed on his shoulder.
“Ha” Vindeus was amused. He cooed like a kid speaking to his even younger brother, “Oh little snipe…come to my palm…you know you are cute, don’t you!”
The other passersby all had their vision attracted by this peculiar boy talking to a snipe. They didn’t pay much attention though, just leaving a strange glance and left.
Vindeus paid little attention to the surroundings but kept speaking to his temporary companion.
He was patting the snipe and brushing its gracious feather when a guard approached.
The guard was a paunchy middle-aged man, obviously a state-of-the-art failure found of no use, which was sadly a non-recyclable one. In his late forties, he could do nothing except for patrolling on the streets throwing his weights around terrorising little kids. So much like the Royal Jelly except that the Royal Jelly Palace took the Spiral Order 4 months to siege and bringing many of its best knights to eternal rest.
He sneaked upon Vindeus from behind and bellowed, “What the hell are you doing here! It is curfew time! Don’t you know that I could throw you into the prison!?”
Vindeus kept patting the snipe.
The guard’s face was red from rage. How dare this little boy one third his age ignore him! He roared in a even louder voice, like a lion going to devour his prey, “I am talking to you! Listen! Answer me! Who are you and why are you still here! Are you so dumb?”
Vindeus was staring into the eyes of the snipe, whispering something unheard by the guard.
The guard was desperate. Even a teenager could defy him? That is…impossible!
His sense of inferiority accumulated in the last 30 years finally ruined his emotions. He stood there, eyes bulging and red, yelling as if he had a mental breakdown.
Vindeus was not an attentive, and failed to notice how desperate and dangerous the scene was. He only knew that this obnoxious adult behind was shouting in such a loud voice that he couldn’t hear what the snipe was singing.
So he turned to the back, staring at the guard.
The guard was dazzled. Not only but the elegant look of Vindeus, his purple hair flowing all the way down to his shoulder and his beautiful nose and mouth, but his pair of big, innocent looking eyes now staring into him. Instinctively, he took a step back, not because of the sharpness and heat of Vindeus’ glare, but because of the ferocity, the extreme loneness and sadness well covered by his sparking purple eyes.
“Shut up.” This simple phrase escaped from Vindeus’ mouth. Though the tone was soft and casual, the poor guard felt that he was given an irresistible command. He mumbled a few words, would shamefully continue to his work leaving this humiliating mark forever in his heart if the guard captain had not come.
The guard captain was a younger and stronger man, both in physical condition and personality.
He gestured at the guard telling him to continue his patrol, then knelt down beside Vindeus, asking him, “Hi boy, my name is Claudius. What are you doing here? It is time to go to home, you know.
Out of his expectations, Vindeus gave a sudden question, “Do you like snipes?”
Claudius was surprised by this irrelevant question, “Why ask? Yeah, snipes are quite good.”
Vindeus, for the first time in nearly two hours, shifted his attention from the snipe. Carefully he laid the snipe onto the ground and waved it goodbye. Then he turned back------facing not Cladius but gazing at the starry, starry night sky. He gave out a short sigh, and said, “I love snipes. They are better than the people. At least better than most of the people.”
Claudius was flabbergasted, opening his mouth wide and could not close it, “Why? Why would you say that? That is not something nice to say, boy.”
Vindeus shifted his gaze again, this time from the sky to Cladius’ puzzled eyes. He looked into them, inspecting every feeling that was expressed or hidden by his adult nature. He sighed.
Claudius felt immense impatience builds up in his chest. This lost-child business was becoming some sort of philosophical debate! O, how I wish I could just get a rock salt beer…
Luckily, Vindeus stopped. A person appeared from the end of the pavement, walking towards the arguing pair.
He was an absolutely stunning person. Everyone knew that the first time they saw him. He had flaming red hair, and it is not a plain red, but different levels of red in different deepness and colour. In the cool night breeze it was slightly moving, and looked like a shimmering flame from distance.
Accompanied by his flaming hair were his blazing eyes, so red and so energetic that it was like two sparks that would never extinguish, two rubies that could reflect any light.
Though he was wearing a black robe now, everyone knew that beneath his robe was the volcanic armour only for the most destructive fireplayer in Spiral Order------Zyte.
As one of the most prestigious and famous knights, Zyte was one of the earliest to venture into the unknown of Cradle, and also one of the few survivors of the Alpha Squad. He had joined every major battle ever since, having participated in the slaying of the Snarbolax, the ambush of the Royal Jelly and the infiltration of the Roarmulus Twins. Now he belonged to a special squad named the “Epsilon Squad”, featuring the new generation of elites and masters.
Claudius was also interested in what an intriguing thing that moved Vindeus’ attention. After all, even a fat guy with bad breath yelling beside his ear could not affect him.
He was…undoubtedly shocked. Vindeus’ calm voice entered his ear, “This is Zyte, one of the few who are not included in ‘most of the people’.”
“Zyte!” Claudius’ scream was full of admiration. However, it could not compensate the fact that many families open their windows to see what this queer guy is doing.
Zyte ignored poor Claudius, but walked straight to Vindeus.
He frowned, “What are you doing? Haven’t you showed him your permit?”
Vindeus shook his head?
“Why? You know you could completely shove him aside in 10 seconds.”
“I am talking to a snipe.”
“Great. At least you are not observing the stone puppies’ face like the last time.”
Zyte pulled Vindeus up, and together they walked to the shocked officer.
“Show him your permit.” Zyte ordered.
Vindeus nodded, and took from a blude wristband on his left hand a purple gem engraved with a capital “E” and a line of words: “3rd Team, Epsilon Squad”.
Claudius was on the verge of collapsing. His ego had been damaged too much tonight. First dragged into a pointless debate with a teenager, then met with one of the most prestigious characters in Cradle, and discovered that the teenager is actually a person he could never catch up with in his life time.
He stood still in the middle of the pavement, watching the pair return to their apartment and could not think of a word to say.
The next morning, he was filed a complaint by an old woman living near Zyte and was demoted to a rubbish cleaner. Three days later he slipped and fell into a rubbish bin, choked and bade farewell to the world.

Back home.
Zyte frowned, “Vindeus, you are coming home later than usual these few days, where have you been?”
Vindeus answered, “To find her.”
“Again? You have been doing this for the past five years!”
Vindeus sighed, grasping his left hand with his right one. “But she must be back…She would not leave me alone for no reason…”
Zyte, though a flaming knight, was like a brother to Vindeus. He put his hands on VIndeus’ shoulder, and said soothingly, “Yes, I know she still cares about you. So just wait, OK? I am sure you will meet her one day.”
Vindeus nodded, and proceeded to his room. Before he entered, Zyte tossed him a sandwich, and reminded him, “Tomorrow we’ll have an expedition. Sleep sound tonight!”
Everyone has their weaknesses no matter how strong they are. And it is cooking for Zyte.
Vindeus laid silent on his bed, taking the wristband and stared at a signature on it. Tears began to drop from his beautiful, purple eyes.
Vera…

Chapter 2

Chapter 2 is out! However, it is relatively short and without any fighting. Feel free to skip this.
My habit is not to get the exciting scenes out so soon but rather set the background and the characters in the first 2 chapters.
The next chapter will be full of suspense together with a Wild Hunting Blade. Please follow!

Chapter 2: The Mission

Vindeus woke up next morning. Yawned. Looked out of the window. Seeing that the sun was still low, decided he could use another 15 minutes in restoring his vitality.
Fifteen minutes later.
Vindeus woke up again, grabbed his electric clock on his table. The gathering time was at 7:30 at the 3rd elevator portal, West District. Taking a cab costs 15 minutes, while dressing up and having breakfast costs a further 20 minutes. It is now 6:45…so he could actually take 10 more minutes!
Therefore, with a mighty leap, he dropped back into his bed, and entered R.E.M in less than 20 seconds.
Vindeus was sprinting in a dark tunnel, with grey, rotten ectoplasm dropping from the roof. A black mist was approaching from behind, devouring everything on its way and dyeing the tunnel a dark purple. No light could be reflected from the terrifying mist with such a huge appetite.
The deathly smoke could blow faster than Vindeus. It caught up with Vindeus in a couple of moments, but didn’t corrode or corrupt him. It just seeped through his mouth and nostrils into his body.
His skin turned black and his pupils a crimson purple. He knew that a dark thought was going to possess him, changing his demeanor without him noticing. But he had to keep running…
For someone was waiting in front of him, at the other end of the tunnel where light was shining like a million suns. Vindeus sprinted and sprinted……until when he was trying to leap into her and found her exceptionally huge pair of azure eyes staring at him.
But nothing else.

Vindeus jerked sharply as he woke up from his constantly renewed nightmare.
He had to wait for a minute before the movement of his chest could slow and his heartbeat returned to normal. Beads of sweat dripped down from his hair to his cheeks, and that is just a very slight phenomenon.
A nightmare like this was agonizing, while dreaming them every night was like a constant torture.
Vindeus hadn’t noticed that his pupils had turned black without light like lakes dried out. They had returned to normal, but the lively spirit that symbolized hope was yet to be restored.
He threw a brief glance at the clock. Due to the nightmare, he was 3 minutes early. That means he could use the time to pack a few snacks into his backpack.
He walked to the balcony. Zyte was already up and checking his gear. He waved at Vindeus and pointed to a tray on the table. In the tray there was a glass of milk, a muffin and a home-made scrambled egg.
Vindeus nodded gratefully and began eating. The muffin and the milk were tasty, but the egg was too salty and a bit burnt. Nevertheless, he accepted it and swallowed every mouthful.
As he was munching that peculiarly crunchy scrambled egg, Zyte spoke.
“Vind, we have a new mission.”
“Really? What is that?” Vindeus asked curiously.
“The Order has detected a strong signal of energy------negative energy------at a cavern in Depth 24. They want us to go to investigate, and bring back a sample of the energy…if it can be harnessed.”
Zyte sighed, sensing that something would happen, but he could not stop that.
Vindeus sighed. However, for a different reason.

Vindeus and Zyte were 4 minutes early as they arrived at the special elevator terminal. It was designed with maximum security and anonymity and serves just the special squads, official assassins and high ranking Spiral Order knights.
It was disguised as an old warehouse and anyone who entered would be “redirected” to a sunny garden behind it through some ways of hypnotism.
However, the equipments inside were absolutely the highest technology.
There were personal changing rooms, expert relocating and communication services, emergency medical and operation rooms and weapon refurbishment and repairing. Not to mention the grand café with all those cheap and delicious food.
Already waiting were the other two squad members, Keila and Cyann. They were sitting on a comfortable sofa sipping hot chocolate.
Keila waved at them warmly, and after gulping the last mouthful of chocolate, bounced up and ran to them like an enthusiastic kitten. She smiled happily as she grabbed Zyte by his left hand.
She said beside his ears, “How long is it after we last met?”
Zyte was full of joy as well but also quite embarrassed as Vindeus as beside him. His face became a bit red as he answered, “Umm…3 days?”
“Yes! That is a long time, isn’t it? Lucky we have mission now.”
Zyte turned around and peeked in Vindeus’ direction, relieved to find that he didn’t care and went to the café to buy an extra-large lemon tea.
Zyte patted Keila’s back, and said in a rather stern tone, “Business first?”
Keila answered quickly, “Yeah, I know the mission and I am ready, end of business. Now shall we talk about something more…casual?”
Zyte whispered, “Not now, Vindeus is around! Cyann would also like to get more information about us to tell his friends! Beware of him!”
Then he shouted to the other two members still resting in the café, “Time is up! Get ready! We are leaving in a minute!”

Zyte met Keila 1 year ago during the battle to destroy the Roarmulus twins. Zyte saved Keila, who was too obsessed in sniping stray gremlins but forgot that mecha knights were chasing from behind. When she was about to be hacked by the mecha knights, Zyte came to a fiery rescue and clear everything there in a few seconds. Since then they had been in a relationship, but the situation now was relatively unknown to the public.

They approached to the elevator, the latest model with pure white panels and comfortable sofas to ease the knights of their fatigue. There is even a small fridge for the knights to take a drink.
They had all entered. The elevator door slammed shut and a blue glow was emitted from the elevator. Then it began rocketing downwards.
The ride was relatively calm despite the tremendous speed the elevator was at. A tense atmosphere filled the elevator and everyone was doing their own work. Zyte was polishing his Combustor, Keila adjusting her Callahan, Vindeus sipping from that extra-large lemon tea and Cyann fidgeting around with his gigantic warhammer.
After half an hour or so, the elevator started to decelerate sharply and came to a halt. The door was rammed open as fast as it was slammed short.
Zyte stood up, and stepped out of the elevator into the unknown realm.
“Guys and gals, showtime.”
