Exactly what the title says~

There is No, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH, ZERO, NEIT,.. for Devoted Players.

Unfortunately, it seems I get the same treatment as I would at work, Who are you exactly? , NO ONE.

Unless you actually spend some money then you get access to all the neat stuff that is coming.

CASE AND POINT~

Wouldn't it be nice for a change if there was a Player appreciation month?
For once Players need to be recognized , for the Die-hard, the faithful that absolutely love this game.
When I was told that I need to spend at least $10 to access the test server, It was more like a slap in the face.

Once again, Democracy , Or should I say your freedom, is not based by the character that you are, but more on How deep your pockets really are.

If you are such a devoted player, how about you make it OOO appreciation month, spend 10 bucks to support the game and say thank you. For OOO has done a TON OF WORK AND EFFORT on a game that you then get countless hours of fun FOR FREE.

And you are always free to let your character run as deep as it will.

--if you've spent hundreds of dollars on this game before now, but can't access new content, then disregard this post. But if you are a free to play player, then shame on you. You are already getting a fantastic game for free. Its greedy of you to ask for more for free.

Three Rings does appreciate

Three Rings does appreciate its players, but their players just don't appreciate them. Its doesn't matter how much money you spend in this game, and truly if your upset since your not allowed to use the testing server spend 9.95 this month thats the price to use it. Its a business like no other they must give incentive to consumers to buy their product. If you follow them on twitter and such not they are always posting funny pictures and commenting on player made art etc. Seems like you just seem like the 99% of whinny players who cry over nothing.

You must not know who you are talking to this is the best spirited player there is on SK and yes she has spent a lot of money on this game, I did too once upon a time and I agree with her the pay users should be able to access the new content regardless of when the last spent money, I say that if you've spent over 25 USD combined since you started playing the game that you should get to go on the test server.

Also I have gone on the test server before and I did leave valuable feedback so why is it that when, people that are helping the game want to help more they are stopped in their tracks and can't help the game progress as a fair and honorable game.

Also I understand a bit about how java works and yes initially there was a TON of work involved to make this but all the patches they release doesn't take too much effort after they get the graphic made, the model for the graphic, and the animation/movement scheme the coding isn't too much work.

albeit this new patch in question is about areas and areas take a bit more time to make graphics wise

Oh and a Side note here POINTED TO NICK AND THE DEV TEAM
When are you going to bring the tortodrone back into the game.. I'd love it if you made him even harder than he orriginally was and then make him bigger than vana and make it a huge fight for 4-10 players at once

Are you free to play? If you are devoted enough that you deserve an "appreciation day/week/month/prize" than that implies that you have been around for a long time, which would imply that you have consumed many hours of this game, and got lots of enjoyment from it.

This whole argument hinges on wether you have spent money to support the game. No reason to discuss the merits of the above posts, either of them, without that pertinent piece of information answered.

FYI the testing server works like a paid subscription game, BUT the special part of it is that it lets you see stuff long before anyone else and offer feedback to fix bugs in it BEFORE it is released to everyone. So technically, your paying for a part time job at OOO.

Well let me give you some background then,

I have playing this game since it's Inception, which was around January- March of last year.
Since that time, I have spent ( I'm not going to say exactly How much), But more to the point,
I have watched over time , when the game was SUPER great to play , and very enjoyable, Hence I've have never seen such a rapid decline in overall quality until now, What that is, is that this game is in grave danger, what is it exactly? the fact that the transition from a F2p to a regular full blown P2P game.
That is only reason for my subtle suggestion that the SK hardcore and devoted gamers, Need some sort of recognition.
It saddens me that you would actually compare me to that group of whiny players, only because I have never said anything, up until now.

Thank you for the clarification. I do feel like paid players should be given a little more consideration when there is a request for an exception to be made. (such as a HUUUGE spender accidentally rolling over a UV on accident). OOO should take care of those who have taken care of them. Free to play players should be taken care of as well, but the players who are keeping OOO afloat should be given preferential treatment. (i say this despite not being part of that group).

I think a workable alternative would be that your yearly total spent (regardless of what month you spent it in) would apply to the supposed $10 test server entry fee. So if you spent 30 bucks on Jan. 1, you'd have access to the next 3 times a test server opened up.

And i do agree, that OOO should appreciate the players (and OOO does appreciate the players as a whole, wether they express it directly or not), and should appreciate well-paying customer EVEN MORE. After all, they are running a business, they should try to please those people who make it profitable first and foremost, as long as it fits into the overall play of the game. However, I think giving a free game to the free-to-pay players is MORE TAHN ENOUGH appreciation. And the ball is now in their court, and they should step up and support OOO.

I spent about 50 bucks on the game, well after i was rich enough to buy anything i wanted --from in-game merchanting, just to support the game, because it has brought me 100s of hours of enjoyment and entertainment. (what, you pay 50 bucks to take a date to the movies and buy popcorn and soda for 2 hours of enjoyment? you pay 30-50 bucks to eat a meal at a restaurant for 60 mins of enjoyment). So whenever i see a "i-never-spent-money-on-this-game-in-100-hours-of-play" person bragging in one thread, and then complaining about greedy triple O in the next, i feel they need to be checked.

Which is why i typed out my post, then amended, if you have supported the game financially, then my post was not pertinent to you.

It cracks me up, how people who only know pawn and rommil from the forums assume we are greedy jerks. But why don't you go around surveying players in game, why don't you go count how many new to intermediate players will speak up for us.

I could list you hundreds and hundreds of names. When i first started playing this game, i was trying to buy a 3* shield. And some more veteran player just gave me a 3* aegis!!! It was my best piece of gear for a month. That has shaped the way i play this game ever since. I have paid that generosity and kindness forward 1 thousand fold. I know what a difference it made to me when i started out, and what role it played in my falling in love with this game.

Seriously... it becomes a P2P because you can't access a Test Server without buying something in the month it opens? A test server meant to test things that will go for free to everyone in a week or a few?
I can understand people saying it is a P2P game when they can't buy the expansion because they don't play on steam (although it's really simple to solve, just downloading steam) but you're being waaaaay too extreme with this statement.

This game is free. Literally. It. Is. Free. To. Play. Do some people pay to play? Yes.

Also "udder ignorance". It becomes increasingly more difficult to take you serious when you can't even use THE CORRECT FORM OF UTTER in a post about ignorance.

I understand you're peeved, but would you say the testing servers is a privilege or a right? If you say a RIGHT, then you are NOT RIGHT. It's a privilege simply put and no one has to give you something for essentially nothing, not to mention the fact that the content that they are allowing you early access to when they shouldn't have to give you said access. You may have paid in the past, and that's all and well as you have supported this game. But please. The level of entitlement you are crying out for is almost shocking.

What exactly would be a way to quantify the "most deserving player" in game? Tell me how you can put a hard number to how dedicated someone is to this game and then by all means they can throw testing passes at you all day long.

The only thing I got from this thread is that you feel it's your god given right to get a sneak peak at new content without doing what other people have done which is to put down a marginal amount of money in a month.

As is. This entire thread has pained me to read and formulate a response.

those were both pretty cool. Altho i think the tweet codes kinda sucked, b/c it was just rewarding people with the quickest internet connections :( as they were on the hour, every hour, for a few hours.

So i do, in fact, agree with the OP. Its about time for another one of these fun fan appreciation events.

I been playing over 1 year 5+ Months I started in December, but then again there are players who have been playing for 2 years+, but lets not throw the card I been playing longer since....thats a match you won't win.

Money spent in this game --- I most likely spent more than you, but lets not get in a who has a bigger e-pockets fight.

We both have different views on how this game is going personally, my view is simple this game was great in beta and its almost as good right now, but the only thing holding it back is the constant moaning by players who don't have any positive feedback and cry over well about everything. I am sure that the dev's can start handing out ce for free, and kids will still complain. Game, has not gone anywhere close to full own p2p, if your excuse is to use a test server an option only for only players who spent 9.95 a month well...Testing server the dev's rather just have a small amount of testers instead of the whole game it ends up giving u better results.

As for hardcore players in Spiral Knights getting special recognition...if you really want to feel special I can give you a gold star. Every player does his or her share to make this game better some more than others, but if anything you can start a forum thread on it no need to have the dev's tell us who they think is ubber special. Im sorry, but if you start acting like those group of players I guess that is all I can do.

I just don't get why so many paid players think they're supposed to be treated like royalty in the game. We buy the goods at the shop, it's up to the shopkeepers to whether they recognise us as regular customers and greet us every morning. It's not our right.
If you play the game a lot, you should earn recognition from regular players for your play frequency and renown. Make your fame, don't pay for it.

For the record I've spent a large amount of money in the game but I don't complain at every patch that doesn't give me any advantages. I just smile and think "there are players out there that are benefiting from this patch". And that's all I need.

This is suppose to be read in a depressed, understanding, reminiscent, and unsatisfied tone (not whiny), there is no rage here nor is there "complaining".

I do have to admit, I am quite annoyed. Being a player who has actually spent money on this game, in support, not for the CE but ACTUALLY supporting OOO. I see where Jane is coming from, like us players who support OOO with real money, saying something similar to "all they give us back is " thanks for the money, now give us more for the money for the stuff that we just made- with YOUR money. Oh and we just blew a chunk of it all of it on accessories and things that nobody really care about " ". (over exaggeration) I have been playing this game since it first came out- not in beta but as soon as it was released. I do understand that OOO and it's employees need money to live, and as a player who has stuck to this game for so long.... I can only say be patient, sooner or later they WILL release something, and hopefully it's not another money grab. Honestly, for the players who've played for so long, we haven't received much recognition. All of the end game players are basically bored out of their minds, just grinding away for more equipment that they may or may not ever use. We just want something to pique our interests, something back from all those hours we spent grinding FSC and well... supporting the game. *sigh* Forever waiting on a reason to come back to a game I've enjoyed.

that little cupcake thing about a month ago was the 1 year anniversary of the game since it's beta started (get your facts right)

that's to say people can't have been playing over 1.2 years

I thank you to all that support our cause in saying that the pay account players would like a slight bit more out of our friends at OOO we aren't asking for much or actually anything we are just upset that they won't allow us to help make the game better.

We don't want an edge of other players or anything like that for those of you that jumped on the wrong band wagon and assumed that about us. We as appreciative players want to be able to help the company make a better game We understand that the 10 bucks in the past month qualification is their ploy to earn another paycheck.

But the facts are we are here and we give a damn about the game. We aren't arguing over how much someone has paid or not we are saying we want to be a part of the development process. (we don't want to pay 10 USD to be a temporary employee that doesn't get paid back.)

We want to make the game better in general. We don't want advantages we don't want anything more than other players.
we want to be able to help without having to pay the extra money. what you guys don't understand that is OOO is saving themselves from paying 15 bucks an hour to actual beta testers and they've made it so they can get you guys to pay them now.

I want to help them out and I don't like that I'd have to pay them for something they should be paying others.

Isn't the reward being able to play the game itself?

The game may not exist without players... but the opposite can also be said. Spiral Knight gamers would not exist if there was no Spiral Knights. When was the last time we saw a OOO appreciation month? Never... When has OOO showed its appreciation for gamers? Well... They update the game, the fix bugs people complain about, they will literally teleport into your party if the game screws you over and personally demolish anything that is making your gaming experience difficult, they release CE promos to lower the CE price, and yes, believe it or not, they are slowly working on new content.

This part confused me the most. If you want access to the future content... well... you wait... Unless you literally convert time into money, you don't need to pay a dime to get the neat stuff that is coming.

If you really want to help the game, be nice to other players instead of swearing like you did in this thread, help newbs, post suggestions... There are a lot of things that doesn't involve beta testing. If you want to help the test so much or just want to see the new content within a week or a few before the release, buy the CE, after all they already get enough testers this way.

This kind of attitude is why I hate working in customer service jobs. People who think they are IN-TITLED to something.

I worked in a fabric store and everyone felt like the deserved discounts for being "loyal pains in my back side".

They want a certain color,that WE SHOULD JUST HAVE BECAUSE WELL THEY WANT IT.

They think I should fall over backwards for them because they come in every month and pay 50 dollars or more for stuff and COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COMPANY EVERY TIME THEY COME IN. That kind of crap gets a bit tiring. I tend to take you less seriously. I tend to not want to listen to a single thing you have to say because all the comes out is complaining.

Njthug, Repartee, and Rommil are all completely right. Three rings does appreciate their players. Have you seen Spiral knights facebook and twitter pages? They post fan art work, they have give aways... they do stuff for the players in the game.

As for the test server, you guys want to know why the test server isn't available all the time? Let me tell you why... people would abuse it. Who would play in the main server when you can pay 9.95 a month and go to the test server and abuse it? Oh... no one would. You can buy five star weapons and sell it back and get crowns from the vendor without having to work in the clockworks... you can roll and get all the best uvs on your gear. Things are given to you in your arsenal that you don't have to work to heat up and craft. Forget about the main server when you can just abuse the test server for 9.95 a month.

You should feel lucky that it's even available for testing. You see a lot of the problems that happen after a release with a large crowd sometimes, think how many more problems there would be if they weren't nice enough to open the test server so we can make sure there is a better gaming experience and less of a hassle update when new content is released.

Sometimes I do wish there was more recognition for people who put money in the game each month, but it's not a necessity. It's not something that's going to make or break my gaming experience in spiral knights. You know what can make or break my gaming experience? People who are hard to play with because they think they deserve special treatment.

This game community had already form too many immature players considering it's a free to play game . There is no up front money required to play unlike most steam games . This had cause lots of kids without a card to dl and play .

From random rolling of uv to lock uv , I have seen so many players rage but note one important fact : after barking like a raging senseless dog , they came back obediently to ooo . There is no reason why developers should listen to players .

A patch is that threaten the position of a high level ( I use level in this Sk case) , they rage just because they can't control the market with sheer wealth .

Now there is another group of player who love ooo to the core ( core is still closed ) . They defended ooo as if someone had stood on their pride . There it created another long heated thread . I could assure you Sk forum is the worst community when a so what call lousy money grabbing patch was out. Need to name some ? Och and sl are both classics example .

In short , Sk is a good game for a short while but there are better games out there . If you dont like it , than move on . No one forcing u to stay .

Looking back at the end of the day , what can u get really in a few pixel extra on your char? There are way bigger and worthy things outside . ( again I'm not sure if immature player understand ). Don't ever think yourself in the most powerful in game . There is a saying in stocks : follow the market , you can't beat the market . You can't beat the developers .

In small doses complaining is okay, but recently SK forumites have been taking it to a complete new level. Just remember that in the world of online gaming, developers are gods, kings, dictators. You can whine, you can complain, you can criticize, you can suggest, but in the end it is up to the developer's choice of what do to and what not to do. They built the game, they run the game, they control everything that happens in it. You exist because they allow it.

Ok guys, here is something that has long bugged me, and I'm starting to see this everywhere on the Net.
It has long worried me and it adds more clarification for my reasoning as well.
the following is actual content taken from a web page:

Phasing out a project is not something, I do lightly. Several causes are usually required for me to do so, but as, already stated, the introduction of exclusive pay to play content was the final straw. I fully understand that Threerings has bills to pay and therefore must (somehow) generate revenue. However, marketing the game as "free to play", but then introducing playable content which can only be unlocked through a purchase is a case of false advertisement. Plain and simple! Consumers may not be entitled to free products and services. What they are entitled to though, is being informed upfront and honestly, meaning, not by the means of the fine print, about (potential) costs.

Of course, some people will argue, that it is only one expansion set that costs money. The rest of the game remains unchanged and therefore, the label "free to play" still applies. This line of reasoning is nothing but a desperate search for (legal) loopholes. I will not give in to it and I will most certainly not cough up the money to pay for the mission pack. Doing so only acts as an encouragement to mislead customers and to add more such P2P expansions in the future. One thing to keep in mind here is that expansion missions were originally announced as CE buyables and then changed to being P2P content last minute. By my count that is the third time, Threerings is testing their limits, that is, their customer's willingness to use their credit cards more often (first time was the doubling of crafting costs shortly after beta, second time was the release of shadow lairs and providing keys through lockboxes). Give in to such acceptance tests and you end up having your expenses steadily raised. It does not take a diploma to see the salami slicing here. Expansion missions (mind the plural here) is an artificial separation between core game and story mode. Those who buy the first expansion will soon find themselves being offered the second chapter, coming with another price tag attached to it (expect around nine chapters for the complete crimson order story). Those who don't will likely find that producing a new chapter binds so much developer time that the F2P section will starve.

The introduction of exclusive P2P content in the game is a slap in the face of everyone, not just F2P players. P2P players, who set aside a portion of their paycheck to buy their monthly supply of crystal energy suddenly find that, yes, they supported the company, but no, the game credit they bought in the reasonable expectation of being able to play is suddenly not good for the new stuff and another swipe of the credit card is required.

Last but not least, and this brings me to the reason, why you are reading this: There is no reason to look down on F2P players as freeloaders. It is true, they do not provide money, but they do provide something equal in value: their time. F2P players are forced to spend a considerable amount of it on tedious things (e.g. farming crowns), which they can then trade to P2P players for crystal energy. As a result, F2P players gain a lot of skill and knowledge. They are typically the ones, who:

Contribute to the wiki
Upload videos to youtube (free advertisement for the game!)
Can carry you through virtually any dungeon
Keep the guilds alive
Always seem to have that rare material or other dingbat, you just happen to need right now.
Always seem to be just there in case all you want to do is to chat.
Always seem to know how to do X, Y and Z.

Or in short: F2P players provide community glue. They may not be big spenders themselves, but they are enablers of big spenders. Loosing them by restricting them to the same old boring content is a formidable way for turning the game into a ghost town. Personally, I cannot see myself logging into Spiral Knights, just because I find soloing the clockworks over and over again so exciting. I also cannot see myself paying for access to the new missions just to find that those people, I actually like to run with can't come with me.

I disagree with the way, Threerings manages (or fails to manage) the community and therefore I will not serve as a tool to peer pressure friends and guildmates into buying the expansion. Neither will I do this to the community as a whole and so the only logical conclusion can be to decommission this website since it acts like an enabler.

As far as I can see, OOO does little to retrieve lost players. Devotees are devotees on their own. OOO put up a "free" game you may use money on if you want, but it is not their job to bring gifts and honor the high and mighty. The high and mighty are just another player to OOO. Lose one, gain another. But OOO is doing stuff to help the player community. Promotions and constant updates show that they also really love this game and the people who play it. OOO doesn't have to do anything to the devoted. They ARE the most devoted.

I'd only say OOO appreciation towards certain player communities can be improved. I mean, our french GM is basically a google translator. That is quite disturbing knowing about a year ago some serious french players gave an application to this job and would have done it way better, doubtlessly. That's my only blame concerning OOO recognition to it's faithful knights, but it's compensated by the fact that OOO finally invested in a server for european players. Of course not only European and American (as in from USA) are playing SK, however it's a good beginning.

why do i always feel so accused of being unappreciative of OOO efforts in developing this game cuz im f2p? its so exaggerated sometimes, i bet some of you p2pers are envisioning starving faces of developers as they come home to starving children (hyperbole for hyperbole!!). OOO is doing ok - sega would not acquire a bleeding corpse... jeez.

plz lay off the preaching about becoming p2p. you act like all we f2p do is parasite off this game. theres a reason they make it f2p, and thats to attract a player base. we buy that CE you sell, we are part of the crafting that helps make a good chunk of that OP gear in circulation, and we consume it too. we are your friends and guildmates, we fill in spots in parties and get LD/BN games going etc etc. my point is - there is contribution in just playing. and im not asking to be recognized like the OP nor do i think most f2p care about that, we're just happy to be able to play. you need to chill, OP needs to chill, and hopefully new content is coming. *resumes eating bbq*

You're not being accused of being unappreciative of OOO efforts because you're f2p. F2P players are a nice benefit to the community, but that being said, P2P should get benefits F2P players don't. That's a simple fact of life. I fully believe that you appreciate OOO, just as I did when I was F2P. (Been playing for a year, paid my first money in December). It's a bit excessive to claim that you are being discriminated against.

@Calamityjane I'm not sure if you heard about this, but they are currently working on a way to trade the expansion outside of steam. And anyway, steam can be downloaded pretty easily. This is most certainly not a P2P game, since all the content is accessible for free.
Also, they are currently working on free updates for the F2P players. (Danger missions, guild updates, etc.) All in all, the game itself is player appreciation, OOO doesn't owe any of us anything. If anything, we owe them.
