as the title says , which one is better fire or shadow against slimes
Is fire as good as shadow against slimes
The funny thing is, the Royal Jelly Minis in the RJP are weak to elemental (for which read Fire), so fire actually does better damage against them than shadow...
It would be ironic if, one of these days, they were made weak to Piercing and resistant to everything else, including Normal... Still, that's for another day.
If you want a status for close mobs, use Shock. It's the only status effect that can be passed between monsters and/or knights, contrary to the Fire description.
Wrong, Royal mini's are neutral to all damage, the numbers show up the way they do because it's a glitch. trust me, a Gran Faust would do as much as a Divine Avenger against the little guys. It's better to use a shadow weapon overall against jellies, but watching them burn and melt is pretty fun too.
how about the Cautery Sword, is that better then nightblade?
If you're using the Cautery Sword against slimes, you still don't know anything about weaknesses (no offence intended). The fact is, not only is the Nightblade more useful than the Cautery Sword, but a) it upgrades, unlike the Cautery Sword b) it actually does more damage against slimes than the Cautery Sword does, thus removing its only potential use.
Oh, and c) it looks better.
It's a glitch which makes gold numbers turn up? Interesting. Won't stop me bringing my fiery vaporiser along though, as it's way more useful in the RJP.
Royal Jellies are weak to shadow and ele, and (equivalent to about Vana's mask) resistant to pierce.
Royal Jelly is weak to shadow, neutral to elemental, highly resistant to pierce.
He's talking about Royal Minis. Minis ARE weak to elemental and shadow and slightly resist piercing.
Fire doesnt do elemental damage anwyays. Shock does.
Fire has it's own weird damage numbers that dont follow any logic. It does different damage to zombies and kats, while both are undead. It does the same damage to gun puppies and wolvers even if both have exact opposite defenses....
Easier to see on Ash of Agni damage table in wiki: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Ash_of_Agni
Hmmm. Looks like Fire does its own, unique damage type. In which case, I wonder...
Is there anyone out there who can be bothered to help by collecting damage from different states of fire in different stratums and against different monsters?
Were the Kats and Zombies in different parties, with different amounts of players, or not?
Well fire also makes red damage bars while burning.
Elemental attacks(including shock spasms) create green/light blue bars.
Slick Polyps are immune to Fire status while Oilers become stronger when set on fire. As a result, Shadow damage has more utility against Slimes.
If you really think something is elemental and want to do damage over time to it, do shock. That registers as elemental so it gets a boost. However it does less damager per tick than fire (presumably because it also has the handy benefit of keeping things from leaping). Shock and fire are both great against slimes, especially the minis in the Royal Jelly Palace. I like laying down both statuses and watching things die without direct damage!
But it's not really correct to compare fire and shadow, as has been pointed out above. Shadow is it's own damage type, and slime is weak to it, so smack away with shadow damage! Fire is a status which can be applied with a fiery haze bomb (which does elemental damage), some swords (which generally do normal or elemental damage, though the flamberge does piercing and you definitely shouldn't use that on slimes), guns (again normal or elemental damage) or potions. Fire is handy, to be sure, but you'll kill slimes faster if you lay into them with a shadow weapon then if you try to burn them to death (though as a bomber, burning and shocking things to death when solo is a good choice for me).
Fire is a status, Shadow is a damage-type. Shadow does bonus damage on slimes, Fire does a set amount of damage at regular intervals whose damage and duration varies with the tier on all non-fire themed mobs
