So. My brother and I were talking on the way from the gym today, and I reasoned it would be interesting to ask who on spiral knights has a photographic memory...
Anyone?
Do you have a photographic memory?
Semi-photographic. I can't remember everything I see, maybe... 50-75% of things. If anyone on SK has a full photographic memory though, that'd be cool
hi, i too have a good memory. However, photographic is in reference to the idea you could actually look at a page of text and not read any of it. Then go back and read that page of text from your memory of looking at it.
I do however have a photoGENIC memory. I always look better in my recollection of events then i actually was!!!! hehe
My memory looks kind of differently ._. I'm more 'placement' memory. If I skim over a page, I can go back and remember where on that page a certain lump of text was, and then recall the text from the location. It's kind of roundabout >.>;
I remember when my music professor asked who in the class had perfect pitch, and half the class raised their hands. Daaamn. >_>
I don't have a photo-anything memory, but I can remember all kinds of useless information no-one needs on personally-interesting subjects, i.e. family was discussing Avengers and I was pointing out the alternate origin stories and future references, as well as powers, abilities, relations etc and countering my dad's claims of 'lack-of-logic' with 'Marvel-Logic' and general Physics.
I remember when my music professor asked who in the class had perfect pitch, and half the class raised their hands. Daaamn. >_>
Did they really? That thing is pretty rare.
Photographic memory is also quite rare. I wish I could say that I had it.
"Photographic memory is also quite rare. I wish I could say that I had it."
I wish I could say I am special.
So guess what?
I am special.
But guess what now?
I LIED.
T^T
I have the placement memory Xair spoke of and I have a somewhat photographic memory but not in the sense that I can look at a page of text and then read it from memory. I can remember faces and pictures very easily and I can look at a word and know if it's spelt correctly if I've seen it before. But I'm pretty sure that's nothing special.
I have amnesia, if that's something that interests you...
Proper eidetic memory is so rare that I honestly doubt you'll find anyone on here who's actually got it.
That said, I'm sure there're probably at least a dozen or so past me who've studied mnemonic techniques like memory palaces, which can sort of 'seem' like a higher level of recall. If you've got questions, ask away. I also highly recommend reading "Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer.
I don't have a photographic memory, but if I hear an annoying/terrible song on the radio, it replays in my head like 10 times. Perfectly. T_T

What, retrograde or anterograde amnesia?
I think it's debatable in the scientific community if Photographic Memory really exists or not. They say memories are very susceptible to being influenced and changed over time, and that's why witness testimony aren't really that great...especially by themselves.
There are people called Savants who have mental abilities approaching Photographic Memory and Super Calculators....but usually they're screwed up in other mental ways.
There is this one woman I read about named Jill Price who can remember almost everything in her life since 1980 with super detail, and she functions normally. Wikipedia says she's 1 of 14 known people to be like that.
Another really cool condition is called Synesthesia, where people's senses are overlapped. For example somebody's vision and hearing are overlapped so when they see movement they hear something when no noise is really there. It can be beneficial, as maybe that person can tell how fast something is moving by the noise they perceive it makes....or something like that.
What, retrograde or anterograde amnesia?
retro.
I mean, there's plasticity in there, and if I'm prompted I can recover stuff temporarily, but then later I can just...remember remembering, if that makes sense?
A few months ago someone gave me a tin of biscuits that were the exact ones I'd grown up with as a child, and it jogged such an intense memory I started crying. I can't remember that, but I can remember having that flash. It's gotten better in the last six months or so, but I don't expect to have full access to that part of my life anytime soon.
Well I am not sure when I rember something I put them as pictures in my head BUT I am not able to read a whole page later while just looking at it fo 2 seconds -.-"
When I am bored, I look into file that contain memory of what I did in spiral knight, and that file is call screenshot in sk -.-
I wrote so much then it the page went back and i lost it all... i don't even know if i want to try to remember what i typed...(i'll be back)
Edit: no i won't(memory is bad though)
My memory is great. Maybe even photographic.
A lot of times when I'm at the house talking with
family I will. . . . I'm sorry. . what was the question again?
xD
Nahh I wouldn't say photographic. I do have a decent memory but
most likely not any different from you all. Then again, I can't
remember half of the people on my friends list or how they got there :/
I have a mostly photographic memory; if I could give it a percent I'd rate it about 94%
when you just did something and try to refer to it as a dejavu moment
Well, that music class was only 12-15 people. And I think most of them were music majors.
Still, I think perfect pitch is a disadvantage when you're not doing impromptu singing. It weakens your grasp of chords and harmony.
There is a book called; "The curious incident of the dog in the night-time", the main character: Christopher Boone has Asperger's syndrome but he has a photographic memory. Sorry this comment might be kind of random XD
When I am watching TV and playing Spiral Knights, I will remember and associated that section of the level with the image and words spoken on the TV and remember it every time I see that episode or visit that level
I know what you mean. Doesn't happen that often, but for example I played GTA 3 during my Metallica phase and to this day my mind drifts to the streets of Liberty City every time I hear Nothing Else Matters. With me it seems to happen more with music than anything else.
Creds to Pawn for an awesome topic. I'm amazed nobody has commented "herp derp move to gremlin chatter DUUUHHHHH" yet.
Is it a dejavu moment if you have actualy seen it before it acutaly happened?
Déjà vu is "the feeling of certainty that one has already witnessed or experienced a current situation, even though the exact circumstances of the prior encounter are unclear and were perhaps imagined".
If you just see a rerun of something you've already seen on TV, there's nothing extraordinary about that. If that's what you mean :P
Also, I probably should have kept my big mouth shut regarding the placement of this thread >_<
to be honest, i originally made this thread so that a bunch of DB's would claim to have a photographic memory and i could then call them liars. Unfortunately, the community let my trolling gene down. Hey, i have to make my own endgame now-days :D hehe.
@ Xairathan, i'm sorta similar. I have a very good memory and i love it soooo much because it made college really easy, and test taking a joy.
I mean i've seen moments in my life that had not happened yet and they were exact and at that moment i knew what it was and did not vary from what i had seen(in fact for some because i knew what they were i tried to change them only to do exactaly what i saw and then i just decided to go with it and just accept that it will happen). When i used to be able to see them i was a wake and when it would happen i would close my eyes and i would see the moment, though it would be a tad bit darker if i remember correctly. There have been only 2 that have been about something actualy important. The first one was a summer when i was in middle school. It was dark and my mother told me our pet dog had just died. Eventualy one morning my mom woke me up and told me he had died and it was still dark in my room. When i was young after i would "see" them i would quickly forget and not remember them untill they came again. I don't even know if i get them anymore. It would have been nice to have a record of when i "see" them and when they happen and see if there was a pattern but when i was young i did not try to and when i was older they were out of my mind before i could do anything.
I have photoshop memory. Does that count?
