Regarding vendor prices in Spiral Knights

G'day folks.
I've a question here, something that's been bothering me for a while now, and has probably been discussed a lot here in the forums, but even so I still feel inclined to ask the community and, to an extent, someone from 3Rings. Here goes:

What, in the name of Vanadukes' skivvies, the hell is wrong with the prices in this game?
If I walk up to a vendor and look at the sword prices, according to the star rating, see that a 3star sword, let's say a Striker, costs 35000 crowns, and decide to sell him a Sealed Sword, which also happens to be a 3star sword if my eyesight didn't fail me, then why does he only offer me a measly 3500 crowns?
Not to mention recipes, don't get me started on those....seriously, 50 crowns for a 5star recipe?
Yet another slap in the face, courtesy of 3Rings.

Can we please, please, get something done about this? Make the prices with the Vendors fair, for crying out loud, both in buying AND selling.

easy!

Simple! To stop you from making a huge profit off of selling bound weapons, if you want to sell it for what it's worth unbind it and sell it on the AH.

inb4 move to suggestions

1.) vendor price is determined by star level, not by the number of boss tokens it takes to get an item--yes, both SS and, say, brute jelly gear are 3*, which is why folks trade 15 jelly gems for brute jelly to vendor rather than an SS for 20.

2.) don't purchase recipes for sale to an NPC.

Problem solved!

@Dammasta

Look, I'm a F2P player, if I could do that, I would, but I can't, so I won't, understand? It would cost me a whole lot more to unbind it and sell it in the Ah, where it might/might not be bought. And right now, I'm more concerned about the Vendors, not the AH, to be honest.

@Narfle I don't purchase recipes to sell them straight away to a vendor, I got my recipes from the missions, like the recipe for Valiance and Nitronome. I didn't need those weapons.

What?

So you're basically complaining about the amount the crowns you get for free gear that you don't want?

I think that the problem here

I think that the problem here is more in how much the vendor is asking for his weapon- Why doesn't he just ask like 5K for a weapon? Outdated prices; unusable vendors.

Dammasta's point still

Dammasta's point still stands, though: vendoring isn't meant to be profitable for the player--if you were crafting up a piece of 3* gear from recipes, you'd be spending a minimum of 100 ce (assuming you crafted on mist and let it refill after making the 2*, or were crafting a line that started at 3*), not including cr and mats, and only get 3500 cr back. Even if ce were back down to 6.5k or so, that's still less than 50% of your money back, yeah? The fact that you can get a free cr bump from vendoring equips you got from boss tokens is just a byproduct of other game play mechanics--not 000's invitation to generate unlimited cr.

Also, if you got the recipes from a mission, they were free as well for completing. This isn't a 'slap in the face,' this system has been in place for a long time. At least you got them for free rather than spending 25k to buy them from the warden like older players did.

;*( Yeah. I bought a good 40K

;*(

Yeah. I bought a good 40K of recipes directly before the mission system came out. And maybe 5K would be a bit... low. Perhaps 20K for a 3* equip would be better; 4K for a 2*.

Thank you for your replies,

Thank you for your replies, they gave me something to think over about all this.... I was just complaining about the Vendors because it's already hard enough for me (and anyone else going F2P) to make enough out my runs to level up my gear....heck, I can't even try Vanaduke without someone else babysitting me, 4star gear still isn't enough for that.

You can add me in-game, Razor

You can add me in-game, Razor (only if you want, no big deal). I can't claim to be the best at generating cr in SK (not even close), but I can show you how to make money on crafting/vendoring to make your way up to 5* a bit easier. I also know quite a few end-game f2p players who might be able to give you some useful advice.

@Razor-Dash

I see you took offense at Damasta's post somewhat, correct?

In that case, if I may, point out that you likely misinterpreted his post a little.

Providing my guess is correct, you drew offense from the post saying 'you'. You took it as accusative, and responded in kind.

However, it is in my experience that this 'you' was meant in a general sense, and not directed at you specifically. This 'you' was referring to players in general.

Providing my guess is wrong, I now look like a total idiot! :D

It's a basic one.

One I use myself, and it has proven to be a reliable weapon.

However, 'good' is subjective. You need to find what suits your style and find what is 'good' for it.

You actually did fine at

You actually did fine at Vanaduke yesterday. Also, we really should be helping you with this, shouldn't we? Contact me ingame if you want to learn how to merchant items. Aside from trading, I suspect the only way to go is all-out grinding for items.

Also, I've always thought the trade-in prices were a little bad. But hey, Spiral Knights is a fake f2p game anyway (in that the entire game must be kept up by CE purchases), and I have more annoying things to complain about.

This ain't a necro

Rather than making my own topic, I'd like to add that vendor prices (when selling them stuff) is quite low. It's pretty unbalanced within itself.
1* - 300 crowns
2* - 750 crowns
3* - 3,500 crowns
4* - 7,500 crowns
5* - 15,000 crowns
I use mist to craft 2 2* prismatech alchemers. I decide to go pawn it at the vendors. I make 1500 crowns. That's it.
