Now do art where it fits on our knight model with a few example helmets.

@Luguiru

I'm gonna throw in a "no u". Just because.

As this idea relates somewhat to a project I'm working on in Spiral-Spy, I may come up with a concept. Maybe.

Maybe means yes.

You're slowly descending back into the area where you don't want to be Blue, as in the area you were frolicking in the first time you got here...

You better tread carefully...

Uh... Wha?

Big thanks to Schattentag for putting together a mockup in Spiral Spy (that's actually really awesomely dapper.)

To those of you who (yet again) seem to make sport of being useless in suggestion threads for no reason...

I know why some of the inane trolling that goes on in any suggestion thread that isn't accompanied by a short essay about how the OP envisions their suggestion, but you guys need to use your brains. You guys (actually... mostly Lug) think you're doing everyone a favor - or maybe think you're being funny - by posting a pointless no effort reply in any suggestions that you figure didn't get enough effort put into them.
Congratulations, self-appointed forum mods and suggestion rating committee. You missed the mark again.

There's a difference between asking for a new weapon with new mechanics that do ____ with nothing but a vague description, or asking for ___ that does ___ and looks "super totally awesome" and suggesting a theme or type of item that everyone knows what it looks like.

Yeah, if I wanted to I could have better described how I think a Top Hat might look in Spiral Knights. I could have drawn a picture (though I admit, I am a horrible artist.)
On the other hand, we've already SEEN - heck we see every time we log into the game - how good the SK art team is at putting together all of the stuff we have in game.
I'm pretty confident that it isn't necessary to elaborate or demonstrate to OOO what a Top Hat might look like or how it could work.
I'm pretty happy to rely on their judgement IF they see the suggestion and go "hey! that could be fun, lets do that!"

It says in the title: costume helm or accessory. We've seen both done before with the party hats (mini top hat to go on helms anyone?) and the Santa Hats that had set helms with a hat on top.
It's pretty easy to picture what a Costume helm that is just the top hat could look like (probably something close to the demo helm, or the basic structure behind the Seerus Mask) with a top hat on top.

I came back to see if there was any constructive criticism for my suggestion, or support; and aside from seeing Schattentag's clever rendition of the idea, I almost regret reading my own thread (which was posted as much to put the idea in OOO's collective brain as for fun) because of people who have nothing better to do than dump on perfectly good (as well as crummy) suggestions yet again.

@ Bluebrawler - whatisthisIdon'teven... Are you trying to help? Are you trying to be funny? Are you just wasting everyone's time...?

(I'm going to let the majority of your post slip by)

If you think that's dapper, imagine it with a Dapper Combo. The way I have it now, the monocle is "attached" to the Top Hat accessory, so the Combo fits.

Anyway, do you think these Top Hats should fit the existing color schemes? The way I colored it was just done to match the suit I made, but I could change it to work with Regal, Fancy, etc. I may even add recolors to the monocle if possible.

Hurr

No one else pointed out the need for visuals.

Yes, I am going to drive this truck after having both my legs amputated because of science, nothing is wrong here. No one needs legs to walk or drive or kick people, we have science for all that. Science does everything for us. Eventually all we need to do is transfer our brains into robot bodies.

Ignore Bluebrawler unless they post something relevant. They have a history of giving memes and Youtube clips which contribute less than I can even pretend to.

I do not pretend nor claim to have power over others. I do not think I have power over others. I should not have power over others and I do not have it. I do not see the problem here.

Your problem is that you want

Your problem is that you want almost every suggestion you review to cover everything- what it would look like, what its stats would be, why it would work.

Suggestions do need effort, but just having an idea with some things covered is fine enough; I don't mean saying no effort works, I'm saying you don't need a 5* wall of text. Sometimes you do need to go farther than a couple sentences, sometimes something can do fine with just an idea.

This is a smaller, more easily done suggestion; it could work like the Santy hats from Christmas. A costume helmet. This isn't something that requires pinpoint accuracy development and animation like capes or pets.

In a nutshell, small suggestion = small minimum effort, and huge suggestion = huge amount of detail. Draw the line.

... Yes. I mad.

Well, Luguiru got his two chances, and now he's on the personal ignore list with Asuka.
Aside from being nonsensical and inane, the only positive part of that reply was the admission that he's just pretending to contribute. Good enough for me, it's well confirmed that there's nothing to see when he posts. Rommil his the nail on the head in his thread where they went toe-to-toe.
(TY Draycos for explaining what he seemed to miss. I have the patience of a saint with regards to most things, but I'm done explaining simple concepts and manners for today.)

Back on topic:

I dunno if these would benefit from fitting different colour schemes. A "fancy" top hat might look ok on some helms if it were an accessory, or horrendously garish on others. Perhaps a coloured band that could change with different styles. Having different coloured top hats does kind of worry me. When TF2 made items paintable, the top hats (which were in the game for a long time) were overlooked sort of... For weeks there were players running around with horrid lime green and bright pink top hats (not both, some were lime green, and some were bright pink. Later the top hat was changed so that you could paint it pink and just have a band coloured on the black hat, and they looked SLICK (though the option to have a totally pink top hat remained.)
On the other hand, if it was done like the Santy hats, that simplifies things nicely. Black Top Hat on the normal Sallet or on a demo style head/helmet.

Another idea could be that rather than have Military, Fancy, Toasty et al for varieties, perhaps three different kinds that could have simple names.
One could have a pink flower on the brim off to one side, one could have a (small) feather tucked in the band, another could just be plain, or maybe have some sort of Steampunk motif with gears. They could (respectively) have names like Dainty, Bold, and Refined Top Hats. This would make them more like the Stranger Hats in concept, I suppose.
There could even be room without having all of the other colours for just Divine, Volcanic, and Shadow ones for those who NEED those things. I'm picturing a dimly glowing red band on the volcanic one, maybe a bit of a misty effect (like some of the icy things) and glow with the Divine one... though I'm not sure about Shadow - perhaps that one would be a plain, matte black top hat.
That'd give six, maybe Prismatic for a 7th with something about it that matches your personal colour.

Tot Hotapo

I am going to make this simple.

User Alpha thinks of something and posts it in the forum. User Beta responds "loox gudd hurr". User Gamma responds "it needs these details so everyone knows what this thread is about and there is no ambiguity". User Alpha realizes they were not specific in what they were suggesting and completes what could have been done earlier. User Beta responds "loox gudd hurr". Gamma is no longer needed in the thread because it is now focused and has details instead of a simple description. User Delta thinks Gamma is harmful to the thread. Delta flames Gamma. Gamma does not want to stay in the thread but is retained because people are whining over nothing.

The end.

'Simple', very funny

Ah good night Irene!

The point is that this is such a minor suggestion people don't need to make design pictures or how it'd look on the knight... which are, for the record, the only 'details' you brought up. All the OP was suggesting was a top hat item. I think we all know what a top hat is; it's not something you put on the front of your armor.

Whining over nothing? Well, in retrospect, what I'm doing is whining about people that whine over nothing. People can then reasonably infer that it would be a helmet top accessory or a costume helmet. That's literally all that was necessary, no one needed to make a model of it to say it isn't a shield.Having a huge description or models that explain what said top hats could look like might be a good thing, but it is completely unnecessary; maybe it'd have more importance if we knew if 000 takes player-created models into account... but right now, we don't.

So put the badge down until then, Forum Cop, or do some contributing yourself without arresting innocent civilian threads. I can understand the police work in some threads, but this isn't one that needs pushing around.

"The end."
