What is your opinion on guildhoppers?

I've recently decided to take on the "guildhopping" life.
Some people see this as wrong and bad. Some don't.
Personally, the only reason I'm guildhopping is because I cannot find a guild to fit my needs. I just join whenever I'm invited, to check them out, and inform the people inviting me that I'm leaving if I don't like it, though it has happened that I've asked to join then decided it wasn't so good and left. Politely of course.
I was commited to a guild and I got kicked in the arse because of a power-abusive GM, and since then I've been doing this, unable to find another guild like it. Whenever I leave one, I make sure not to seem disrespectful, and try to always tell the person that invited me.
As I said, I do this since I cannot know whether a guild fits my needs or not, so I gotta try it out, see the people there and so. And if I don't like it, then I just leave, nobody is forcing me to stay there, that would be plain dumb. (copied from a later post of mine, since I feel like it was needed)
Discuss.

If you're guildhopping from random guild invites that's fine. If you actually asked to join you should stay somewhat committed.

Many guilds try to be close-knit and have everybody know each other well. Guildhoppers do exactly the opposite. They take what they want from the guild and stay for a bit, but as soon as they get bored they move on to the next one.

I think guild hopping is fine as long as the guilds you're going into know that before hand, otherwise it's annoying and can ruin your reputation for future guild applications.

I cannot fathom why people do it. I have never been too comfortable with talking/interacting with people in games but apart from one guild I joined I have stayed till I couldn't play anymore because if IRL reasons or till the guild became inactive, at least from my POV.
I am part of a guild called 'Rogue Knights' and it is by far the best guild I have been in, friendly, active and as soon as I joined and started talking to people I knew I'd stay. I've been in the guild for about 55 or so days now, almost on everyday, and I have fun. Everyday with them.
Yes I look down on those types of people. Probably shouldn't since I do not understand them, but when people trust you enough to accept your guild application, since most 'good' (I use that term loosely, not all guilds with applications are good, and not all guilds without it are bad) have them. I don't think hopping to another is a good idea. It hurts when a friendly face disappears with next to no reason, I have experienced that myself.
I see 'Guild hopping' as a sign of disrespect, especially if you don't give notice. Sure, guild hop if you want, don't expect people to particularly be happy when you join their guild though. One day people will find out about you, and what then? Unless you're really good friends with them I doubt you'll be invited to it.
Then again random guild invites are annoying, hop between them if you want, it's still not a good idea really but at least you can do what you want without actually causing 'too' much harm.
Commitment is what I like I guess. And if any one of these 'Guild hoppers' want to share why they do it I'm all ears, I'd like to actually have at least a little understanding of why you would do it. And I don't think 'I'm bored of this guild' is really that great of an explanation. Not to just disappear anyhow.

..../facepalm.

I did find a guild which kinda suited me and I kinda knew the people there, which I had left in the past, and I got declined now because of this behavior. Eh shrug, I was gonna stick around but now I guess I get to try out some more.

We have guests all the time from other guilds in EoS and people commonly leave, start their own guilds (I'm still convinced someone from EoS started Echo of Sausage) and come back. I've seen our GM, Njthug, leave more times than anyone else. I guess it just depends on the personality of the guild. And why some people we just know wont fit into our community. If your goal is to find the guild you fit into then guild hopping is a way to do so, rather effectively. Just realize it may offend some guilds you may fit with and disqualify you before you have a chance.

What are your needs? Also, what gear do u have? I can interview you if you like the idea of my guild: Dark Guardians

I don't know what the /facepalm is for. You asked for my opinion, I gave it.
And your reason is decent, I am glad you don't just leave. If you were offended in anyway because I said 'You' a lot, just realize that is how I express myself, instead of saying 'Guild hoppers' or whatever every single time I just took the shortcut.
Anyway, back to what I was saying, I only gave my opinion, I doubt it really matters too much anyway, but that is my viewpoint.
I find is reassuring you do leave politely, that is good, and again as I stated I have never been comfortable talking/interacting with people in games, so I understand the feeling of not being able to find a guild you can fit into. Fortunately I found myself one. I hope you do too.

I used to be a guildhopper. I started doing it when I was the only one still playing in my original guild. I still talk to my original guild members, they just play other games now. I'm the strange one that likes Spiral Knights a lot. Back then, I didn't have the same drive to clear FSC, and anyways, I wasn't that good at the game yet (I only had DVS/GF/Polaris/bombs, and didn't have vortexes, so doing FSC was a pain). I eventually started settling down with Impervious, when I started doing shadow lairs. I switched twice after that, though.
What drives me to switch guilds? I switch if the guild isn't active enough for me; I don't solo as much as I once did. I also switch if other guild members really annoy me. The most likely way to do this is to insist that you have to run a dungeon a certain way.

Come to Valkyrie Knights! We're very nice! Also we have refreshments in the intermissions.

I wanted to try guild hopping once, and I do have a few friends who are very experienced in that stuff
but my current guild isn't that fond of guild jumpers, so the change of me getting back in is slim

Stop by at Ironsteel Knights! We are kinda run like a academy, a group, a family, an a home. Rank an gear doesn't matter, and its kinda expected in our guild people don't stay long. We are a newb intro group kinda, a acedemy for newbs, with older players to guide them, communicate with them, to do things together. As you know with academies, members will soon grow out of Ironsteel and graduate to other guilds. We are just a warm friendly fostering enviroment.

What Rangerwill said, then again if you have to apply for one, it might be hard to crack into the "popular" crowd.

@Daarke dude, you spelt Academy wrong the first time "acedemy" then you spelt it a second time, this time correct....what the.....

"Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it?"

I mean... I commend those who guild hop through the elite guilds, since they are able to get in them. Lol
I am not affected by it, although I have been called one in the past. :/

Well I just hopped from guild to the one I'm in now because
1. The GM who invited my to guild 1, wasn't even in that guild anymore
2. I only knew one other person and he came to guild 2 with me cuz he's my best friend :)
3. because I live in Australia and I guess everyone else lives in america? so there was never anyone in my guild ever on
4. I was invited to join guild 2 by a good friend who's a GM
But then again I'm not that big on guilds cuz i havent found one where everyone is on at the same time, I can talk to everyone. Maybe I should find an Australian one....

Hmm I see. And no, thank you, to VK and IK, VK hates me and Im not interested in fostering noobs.
I have joined Perfect Storm now, probs gonna stay.

Guilds are just a tag under your name.
I don't see what the big deal is.

If it were so I would make my own guild.
Possibly one with a name which references Cheese.
Alas t'is untrue.

tersa a derirty guild hopper fetboy

There’s a name for guild hoppers, but it isn’t used in high society outside of a kennel.
I am a derirty guild hopper now days. I have been in the same one for a few weeks now, I think they are trying to come up with a polite way to boot me.

I like to see things from all points of view... so here's my onion(s):
I have been in two guilds, both in officer positions. As such, I don't really like seeing people randomly coming and going, because that means more work for me and my fellow officers to recruit new members. Also, sometimes, if a guild isn't working for you, chances are the guild isn't working for itself, either. That's a chance for you to contribute and build the guild up to what you'd want it to be, provided the right circumstances (an open-minded GM and officers, few members, etc). Of course, a very well-established, old, and large guild will be different, and if I were in such a guild I wouldn't worry about guildhopping or guildhoppers, since they're usually overwhelmed with requests and their leadership will be hard to budge.
However, as someone who DID leave a guild, I do understand that things happen and when guilds simply don't work anymore. I usually try to give my guilds the benefit of the doubt and the good, old-fashioned try, but when leadership crumbles or people aren't active/friendly/social, it's more of a bummer than a boon to be in a guild. If one really thinks about what one really wants from a guild and isn't getting that, then I totally understand trying before buying.
Overall, I would say that my philosophy is, be loyal to the concept of the guild and knight-brotherly-hood, but forget about guilds that don't do that in turn.
I don't have a onion on guildhoppers. Shallot, maybe, but not a onion.
I'm guessing you mean opinion, which mine is that they can be slightly annoying
