So I have had my ash tail set for a while now (because clearly vog cub is the way to go) planned on using all swords getting an avenger for range, but heres the deal, now that i have one, i don't LIKE the avenger! In certain areas I'll use it as my 1st slot for melee, but I would rather in every situation bring a gun in my second slot for range, they're faster more reactive etc.

In fact the dynamic of switching back and forth between gun and sword is probably the foundation of my playstyle!

So, am I doing vog club wrong? Will I be squandering my lovely bonuses? Would Going something like grey feather mantle better serve an almost even split of Gun/Sword? Or is vog so much better that even with a gun it's supreme?

If you're relying on the gun

If you're relying on the gun more, the attack speed bonus of the vog cub set isn't so useful. I'd recommend the magic set for the additional status resistances. Or at least something else. Maybe a gunslinger set. The aspd will only help with the first to second swing of the avenger. It won't help with the recovery from the second swing so much.

Well I wouldn't say I rely on

Well I wouldn't say I rely on the gun more, just near equal, and the main sword I use is the Cold Iron Carver right now, I greatly prefer the way it plays and it's charge attack over the avenger, will that make a huge difference?

Also I was thinking if i'm stepping into tier three, Miracle Cloak seems quite preferable to Ash Tail, Due to the elemental defense. So if only for the sake of smooth levelling up to 5* the magic set seems good, but is the sword damage bonus I lose going to be a big deal?

The vog cub provides elemental defense too, so it is a useful upgrade. And if you're using the CIC or its upgrade (Cold Iron Vanquisher) then you're probably going to be using the right armour for the job.

You could always mix your

You could always mix your armor in order to mix your bonus. Vog coat and gunslinger hat or some other combination that gives you a little advantage for each weapon you use. Costume slots allow you to still look coordinated even when using mismatched gear.

Mixing and matching though

Mixing and matching though usually doesn't help much. Late game, being a jack of all trades doesn't help you survive.
