Since the prices of CE will always be "unreasonable" lol wat. I want to know how this market works so i don't break my skull open on my wall when i rage about the CE prices. kthxbai
How does the CE markent work
i've already done that. All im seeing is numbers going up and down and me getting sometimes getting lucky selling overpriced CE out of me 5k wallet
People who make CE rage threads haven't played enough JRPGs to understand the concept of investing time and grinding to get the things they want
If they execute the random encounters well, I actually kinda like grinding. I can tolerate it if I know my reward will serve me well until the next checkpoint.
WaddaBOUT how the ce market works? You buy da energy, you sell da energy, dat all there is too it.
(No, it doesnt work like a stock market. Prices are pretty much set by the guy who blows 200 bucks on ce and puts it all up for trade.)
(...Ill show myself out.)
What the heck people? Why is everyone so mean? Just explain the dam thing instead of being lazy and throwing sand into his face.
The CE market is similar to that of the real life market, with real economic principles at work (CE market tends to be a bit faster and more dramatic than real economics though). The price is basically controlled by supply and demand. The CE price is mostly sustained by a (relatively) small group of people who buy about $50 worth of CE every few weeks ($50 is roughly the price of a nice dinner). They then sell their own CE to other players, based on demand and abundance of crowns.
When players are gaining more crowns than usually (normally via a patch), then the amount of crowns in the market increases. People will always want CE, and as they get more and more crowns, they are willing to spend more and more to get their CE sooner and sooner. However, of course, there is a limit where players will refuse to buy at such a high price. This is why you rarely see the CE price break 8k. It always hovers at 7.9k, and then starts dropping. When the price approaches 8k, more and more people refuse to buy CE, yet CE sellers still want to sell their CE, so they have to lower their prices to appease the buyers.
The best example of this would be when Firestorm Citadel began giving out 12k - 14k crowns per run. Suddenly, there was a huge supply of crowns in the market, and the CE price spiraled out of control. This was the only time I saw CE get above 8k, and that is when OOO smacked FSC with the nerf-stick, dropping the crowns per run to about 5.5k - 6k (Subsequent patches have brought this back to a reasonable 8k crowns per run).
Now the opposite can also happen. During big promos, more and more people are buying more and more CE. The amount of CE in the market increases. Now, CE sellers have an abundance of CE, and are willing to sell it at a lower price in order to get the crowns they need/want sooner. I haven't really seen the CE price hit a bottom limit TBH. I've heard about the CE price being around 3k slightly after launch, and people were threatening to abandon SK all together when the CE price crept into the 5k area. I assume there is a point where CE sellers do not want to sell their CE for so little crowns that they just hold onto their supply until the price rises. As players start buying the CE via crowns, the supply of CE (from those willing to sell) goes down, yet the demand is the same, allowing sellers to raise their prices a bit.
The best example of this would be the last X-mas promo. The $15 Explorer Pack, for a few months, was only $3. I remember people who never had bought anything before would be able to throw in a measly $10 and get THREE Explorer Packs (and by extension, 6 week elevator pass). I even remember a guildmate who frequently spent money on the game had an Elevator Pass that lasted until June 20th... in 2013. Of course now people would just throw away CE whenever they wanted for a quick boost of crowns. I remember the CE price hit about 5.7k at the end of the season and stayed at around 6.3k for a few weeks after X-mas ended.
To sum up Traev's post, the market is comtroled by the players, and ruled by supply and demand. More energy = less cost. Less energy = higher cost. Or More Crowns = Raised Cost. Less Crowns = lowered cost. Get it?
I think that's why they recently released that promo. The GMs are trying to help us make the CE prices go down. It seems to be actually working a tiny bit. Dropped by about 300 CR last time I checked.
In the energy depot, 3rd tab is the market. Stare at it for 5 minutes and be educated.
