The topic isn't clear.

So far as i know, all armors are split. They have either normal/??? defense, or shadow/pierce, or elemental/pierce. What are you asking, exactly?

Exception

2-4* plate, the Ancient set, various vitasuits, etc., which are pure normal.

But yeah, I don't understand what the OP's asking, either.

OP is asking if...

"If sets skipping other defenses fully(plate lines for example) or having double special defenses without normal like the drake line leaves you with more defense against those than a normal/pierce or normal/elemental"?

And the answer is: "kinda" You may have higher normal with a pure normal armor but more than half of all damage passes through after tier 1. On armor trading normal for double special damage resists you'll instead take big chunks of normal damage.

Every monster always deal some normal damage (exception:turrets I think). So normal is always good.

Special armors liek Divine Veil or Dragon Scale are onyl good for very specific scenarios.

Eesh.

This depends on tier. If in Tier 2, split is better. If in Tier 3, pure is probably better, including pure Normal vs Gremlin Thwackers.
Does that help?
