I don't think it's important to say what every new item is. Something like "New hats and guns [no swords, sorry]" is perfectly adequate in my opinion. On the other hand, things that influence the playing of the game itself [mechanics, interface, etc] should always be listed. "Charge times reduced", "Toggle for auto-aim implemented", "Auto-target aggressiveness increased", etc.
4-27-2011 Patch Discussion
"lol at the "reserved" post they put up. Trying to stir up some excitement I see..."
They might actually detail what they have updated?! Very interesting. I wonder how much detail we will get, my assumption is possibly the names and style of gear they are adding. I could see them leaving a lot of it to surprise.
Psssh. I want the day of confusion when no one is sure what items there are! People trying to sell the new recipes for outrageous prices... people running through town wearing clothes you've never seen before... bluffers with full inspect turned off bragging about fake weapons that they made-up. It'll be a crazy world. Just the moment of discovering a new item that no one has told you about will be glorious. Living with constant strategy guides isn't a luxury; it's a cage that shields you from those beautiful raw emotions of reverence and curiosity and pride and...
Okay got a little out of hand there.
Seriously though, I'm the type of person who loves documentation. And come this afternoon I'll probably be dual screening it: playing on one, and editing wiki articles on the other. :P
No point in reservations @_@ POOOOP
We sometimes reserve the space for things on our end, it's not to tease anyone. Sometimes we require setting up a link to point somewhere in advance of an update. That's all.
"Patch notes:
We added forty billion items, but we won't tell you what they are, have fun!"
i.e the in-game announcement page or mail item needs a link to somewhere for more info, and they obviously have to prepare that bit in advance.
Well. This was somewhat anti-climactic so far.
At least there's a piercing sword now, and Fang of Vog got hit with being useless again...
16 new swords, 0 new guns, 0 new bombs.
Thanks Three Ring!
WTS Nameless gear. WTB Vog Cub...
I was kinda disappointed. I was hoping we'd get some of the known items that haven't been released yet, like Shatter or Blackened Crest.
And also:
-Flamberge/Rigadoon are borderline useless. They only cause status effects at a slight chance, and they're minor. They lose quite a bit of attack power when compared to the main Flourish line.
-Fang of Vog gets rejected again. Combuster actually has MORE attack power than Fang of Vog. And also more attack speed. And no self-inducing fire. And a different charge, that might or might not be better than FoV's. And the exact same chance to inflict fire, at the same strength. Fang never gets any love, despite being the hardest weapon to obtain in the entire game.
-Acheron and Combuster seem to have the same attack power, (Pretty sure Glacius is also the same, although no images for its stats have been uploaded yet) even though Combuster can cause fire, and Acheron is just pure shadow damage. Feels a bit weird.
-Aaand now I don't really see much of a reason to use the Calibur lines anymore! The new Brandish lines are pretty much stronger, even if situational. Flourish, being pure piercing, is quite weak against jellies or constructs, but incredible for beasts and fiends; It also has the same base attack power as the Calibur line, not to say it's a bit faster. I guess Calibur's charge is quite great - But I'm liking Flourish's charge even more, and will probably like the Brandish lines' charges too.
-...And Cutter lines, Spur lines and Troika lines seem to be a bit unloved aswell. Cutter's series is more about it being too weak, though Spur and Troika lines could do with some 5* upgrades.
So yeah. I hoped to get a bit more content in this update. At least a bit more variety - Bombers and Gunners still get no love. Might aswell remove those weapons entirely, at this point! I'd also like to know when we're actually getting Blackened Crest, the Kat helms, Shatter and all, if ever.
But overall, Flourish was a great addition to swords. Now I can finally get revenge on those damn wolver danger zones, arenas, and dens!
Guns are currently varied enough. Swords were basically "There are exactly two worthwhile swords in the game". With this patch, the number of viable weapons has tripled.
With Guns, you had most variety of alchemer being viable, argent peacemaker, and valiance for general utility.
Bombs, I'm not entirely sure about as I don't use them or play with anyone who does, but I guess they just didn't see a need for new ones?
Disappointed about the Magikat Hat and Blackened Crest not being added, though. Don't care about Shatter.
Swords were basically "There are exactly two worthwhile swords in the game".
I would have said three - Faust, Divine, and Leviathan.
Otherwise... I agree.
Magikat Hat and Blackened Crest are already in the game, people just haven't being showing them off.
Well now there are four useful swords!
Waiting on the fifth, Shatter. <3
What's your list on useful, now, Magnus? And why, for each?
Yeah, where's some 5* Khorvod love?
Divine Avenger: Zombies!
Gran Faust: Not zombies!
Leviathan: Vanaduke's mask!
Final Flourish: Vanaduke's body, at least for the first stage!
Shatter: DA and GF, but in total normal damage; good for EVERYTHING
I want to see some information on the new Burst swords, since they have comparable damage levels to DA/GF and swing thrice with status on charge and no backfire. Dunno what the new charge attack is like, though.
im loving my flourish with UV vs fiends very high =D
i love the sword all around, great idea for it to be a rapier since its piercing damage, and it looks pretty sweet. absolutely destroys beasts/fiends which is the only reason why i had my mega magnus, but now that thing can go the way of the dogs.
i'd like to check out the new brandish lines so i'll be on the look out for them just for the lawls
I hope the Fireburst and Nightblade charge attack is same as Brandish.. Brandish has a cool explosion on the swing...
I am planning on getting Combuster and Acheron
glancing over some things - it kinda looks like the brandish line would be better than the avenger/faust honestly. it has both types of damage, almost as much power but more speed.
me thinky i need to make those up and keep those, make my divine avenger and sell it, dunno what i'll do with my gran faust....we'll have to see but i'll definitely be getting the blazebrand and comparing it to my avenger for power/atk spd
This is Iceburst Brandish's charge attack. I imagine Fireburst is red, and Nightblade's purple.
The four star and five stars have different charge attacks. The three star version's is unchanged.
The four star one is almost the same, but it has TWO fire explosions instead of just one.
Though I notice sometimes the explosions don't occur even if I'm in a nice large flat area.
lol at the "reserved" post they put up. Trying to stir up some excitement I see...
