Voltedge if you dont want to waste your CR, but playing LD also costs crowns.. but its worth it if you win..
Doesn't matter. Pick a color you think looks pretty and you'll get used to it.
There have been PAGES worth of debate over which is better... but in general they're all the same. You'll eventually become used to whatever you pick.
