One Energy Thread to rule them all!
I realize a lot of people are tired of reading discussion threads on energy; however I feel there are still many perspectives and angles on energy consumption/prices that have not been examined.
So I'm starting this thread so we can further discuss this topic in more detail from other perspectives. Please share your observations on our current energy dilemma. However; please refrain from bringing up points/arguments that have already been discussed in other energy threads! TY!
I will start the thread by pointing out some of my observations:
1. The American national average wage index for 2009 is 40,711.61 according to http://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/AWI.html, and the average American residential electric bill is $95.66 according to http://www.motherearthnews.com/Energy-Matters/Average-Electric-Bills.aspx. This means approximately 2.85% of the average American's daily salary goes towards energy consumption. I find these figures in stark contrast to daily energy consumption here in the world of Cradle. I mean for real... Half of my jelly loot goes to energy!
2. I have been lead by the storyline to believe that the gremlins may have built this amazing, and almost magical clockworks. However I can't understand why they have forgotten to put in such key infrastructure as a power grid. To me this feels like a really huge oversight for such skilled craftsmen. I mean I couldn't imagine going to the mall only to find out that I can't take the escalator to the second floor, because no one thought of running power to the escalator. Then lets assume I did actually bring my 200 pound back pack holding my mist energy canister, and I actually did power up the escalator to the second floor of the mall. How come my friends can't ride the escalator with me??? That would be like me and a buddy getting into a taxi cab, and the driver trying to charge us double- makes no sense.
3. And this brings me to my third and final observation. Why does it take more energy to descend into the clockworks than to go back up to Haven. Everyone knows it would take more energy to pull an elevator up than to lower it. I think it should take half the current amount of energy to go down a level, and then the full cost to go up a level. And if you didn't save enough energy to get back to the haven... well then your part of the clock works!
Please don't take this post serious! For real!!! Just have fun!

Upon reaching the Core, you receive a bit of story from one of the NPCs there, which may or may not prove your current thoughts otherwise...!
This was totally meant to be a joke. I thought this post was so obviously over-the-top ridiculous that no one would could actually take me as being serious.
This was just meant to by a fun thread were people can post their funny observations. Next time I will use /sarcasm :)
I liked the reference from LOTR but I hate you for starting YET ANOTHER ENERGY THREAD *smack*
Glad I stayed online would have hated to log on tomorrow to see my thread had blown up by people calling me an idiot!...lol
Also I edited my original post to say it was a joke thread.
Sorry GodofSkype, I couldn't resist.
I have been reading the forums, and I know the energy thing is a touchy subject with you. However I still couldn't resist just to poke a little fun at the whole debate:)
Hope your not too mad, I'm actually a nice guy:)
Not THAT mad but it's irritating and it's not that touchy of a thing since the prices have stabilized. I even purchased $5 earlier.
I even purchased $5 earlier.
Wait, something here doesn't make sense. I spent literally two days arguing with you where you contended that you couldn't afford 75c, and here you are buying $5 of energy?!
Oh well. Welcome to the paying players, I guess. ;)
I got my glasses purchased and had money left over. I also seen that OOO is listening to it's community so I feel I could at least spare $5, however I can't be doing that all the time.
Also, If I recall you spent 2 days arguing while calling me a male chauvinist.
meh. If this weren't a joke thread I'd derail it off into that argument again. I was just expressing surprise at your complete 180. :)
I smell a romance comedy in the making...
At first Anisoptera only sees GodofSkype as a male chauvinist.
GodofSkype hates Anisoptera's in your face take no bull attitude.
They fight in the forums for 2 days.
GodofSkype buy $5 dollars worth of energy.
Anisoptera notices.... Sees a 180 degree change in him.
I see the making of a great romance comedy!!! Look out Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston!
The reason I love romance comedy's is because they always have a happy ending!
As The Forum Turns.
Or perhaps, As The Spiral Turns.
You forgot my take no nothing attitude as well.
I did forget GodofSkype...my bad:)
@anisoptera: I think in time once we get enough fun personalities on these forums we will need a "As the Spiral Turns" sticky:)
I'll try tomorrow to start us a Bollywood thread!

I like seeing threads derailed for fun
but i have to point out another view on energy.
Regarding your energy and taxi reference =p
Its cause you 4 are splitting the cost? =p
sure you can pay for all of them, but that would cost you 4 times the price
And it cost more cause of the added weight of more people XD
And yea this is a joke too =p

For a disabled guy, GodofSkype is sure good at doing backflips.

D:< Shoebox, I see your subliminal messaging.
You would turn your back on your own people?!
For a disabled guy, GodofSkype is sure good at doing backflips.
AHAHAHA, now that's funny!
I run Tier 2 Jelly King about 6 times a day. I earn, on average, 7k crowns from each run, not counting materials or minerals. I spend at most 91 energy per run. I use the profit to buy more than double the energy I invested in those runs, and still come out with a profit in crowns.
I'm doing it right.

I'm doing it right.
Not in this thread you're not.
Not my fault. This thread is serious business.
I don't even play this game but still read the forums......lol. As heated as the issue is/was you must admit we saw some pretty funny posts regarding energy prices. I may never play SK again but will most likely check on these forums (anisoptera in particular :-o) for some time. You guys are awesome.......I actually used to cry about prices too, but then I spent $2.75 and played til I was bored everyday for a week! When i quit playing I still had like 700 CE and a couple thousand crowns plus mats. It's really cheap to play as long as you're paying with $ lol. Good times.......I would probably still be diving with y'all but Darkspore and Mythos just came out......And yes, Ill be spending money on those games too ;D
How is darkspore, by the way? Good? Or just middlin'?
I am just gonna say this in the same tone the creator said pehaps the core is an energy source but gremlins were stupid and used direct current power meaning the elevators can only go up naturally
Clearly, elevators are built to elevate AND they sit in Haven to begin with, so they must be on some sort of gravity-based counterweight-pulley system, whereby without interference they are naturally pulled to the top level. Thusly, it requires energy to push them to lower floors and lock them into place. To return to Haven, you simply disengage the locks and enjoy the ride! This also explains why you can't go back up and see Basil again after having earned more crowns, or return to ANY level that isn't Haven except by visiting Haven first.
Wow, I'm actually surprised at how well that theory came together.
@FlashbackJon: I agree that theory really did come together well.
It's a shame they used a floor locking contraption where you disengage the lock to return to the haven (which I agree with you- it clearly appears they did). If only they had thought of installing a hand break type of device in the gravity-based counterweight-pulley elevator then on our way back to the haven we could stop at Basil if by some chance we did not have enough money on our way down to purchase a recipe we were interested in.
But what ya gonna do. Hind sight is 20/20. I'm sure the gremlins were kicking themselves in the butt the first time they disengaged the floor lock, and shot by Basil on their return trip to Haven realizing if "Only we had installed a hand break...Dang...Dang...Dang..."
"Stop making energy threads" :-).
Darkspore is awesome.....For me, its a breathe of fresh air amongst a lot of other isometric hack n slash gruel. Super fun, PVP, tons of replayablity. I think you guys should check it out. If you're lookin for F2P :) Look no farther than Mythos Europe. I've been playing it and having a TON of fun. Its not like Flagship's Mythos, which was really just designed to test the online component of Hellgate: London (suck). Come check it out!! My toon is named War_Ghoul. Friend me and we can go dungeoning!
Because Magic and Video Games.
Something to think about.
