I was thinking yesterday, is there truly a perfect costume, or how close can a costume get to that? And is there truly a designer who knows more than all the others?
And no, I'm not talking about throwing as many expensive accessories as possible on random armors and hope they look good- I am talking about thorough creation involving many, many factors.
Of course, there will never be a best- but I'd like to see who classifies as ONE OF the best. That's the sole purpose of this thread- to see who would fit there, as well as their creations. Keep in mind that a good designer has more than one great outfit.

So just vote away, who has impressed you most. But keep in mind originality and cleverness, not money sinking. Just as we can vote for best LDers, we can do this for best "designers" too. After all, a lot of end-game players get involved in costume-making and invest money in it- making it part of the end-game experience.

Of course, you won't get to see ALL the people, so you can vote only from what you've seen. Picture examples are greatly appreciated. :) I'll leave out some of mine here. Oh and this one was late to the party.

Roster will be here:

#1 Best costume for an alt on the game--thats right, i'm making up my own category :p
Sluggil--so hard to make an evil themed knight.

My guildmate wears something similar to this, and although its a bit of darkened colors, it looks nice.

Sorry no pics :( I was fiddling in Spiral Spy to make it since I dont have many armors to work with in game, and cant afford to mass craft stuff just for fashion.

@Rommil: Well, If you look in paragraph 2 of Ters's original post you'll find that he specifically says not to give us just glorified random armors and helmets. We can surely say that those are not random, but well, my point is that just using extremely expensive accessories is not the only way to make good costumes.

agreed michaelb

all of those costumes are designed to be aesthetically pleasing, to match incredibly, most with personal color in mind (altho that personal color may or may not have been in evidenced by the time the pics were taking). Nor was this just throwing of expensive accessories on random stuff and hoping it turned out okay..

These were all systematically designed, thoroughly put together, and in some cases took more than months to finally acquire all the component parts (and in some cases still waiting for the final touches).

They were all creative visions dreamed up in spiral spy, and then diligently chased in-game. I agree with the premise that one should not be rewarded solely for making million+ crown costumes, but no more should one be penalized for it. One can be fashionable whether they shop at target, old navy, the gap, american eagle, abercrombie, or the high-end boutiques in hollywood. Just because your average joe shops at a low-med end store doesn't mean he can't have fashion and look sharp, just like you cannot discount the style exhibited by many hollywood types (or the stylists as it may be) because they spend a lot more on it, and have it tailored to fit. They still look good.

And to look at it another way, if you have in-game discretionary income, and own every weapon you want, and turn your attentiont to: okay, i know want a prism costume, volcanic costume, and divine costume...what to do? Then you set your mind to making beautiful costumes using these themes. And that was my intention, and i think i pulled it off :)

so:
approach #1: I want to make a great costume with this armor and gear i have .(take Terskeroffs owlite academic look)
approach #2: I want to make an awesome costume using the "rare" accessories. One then still has to make wonderful looking costumes that go together in color, composition, scheme and theme. All while being completely original.

Alright, people. Canozo, I don't need commentary. If you're posting here, at least put a picture of your Skolver Set and all of your toothpicks -- oh, I forgot, I forbade that with Ters's permission. Also, Rommil's Subject line quite clearly says "agreed Michaelb". Therefore I hardly think that it was ever a "Battle" or a situation where it was fit to say "gg" at the end.

@Rommil: I don't like to criticize creativity, but was it you, Hadn, or Pawn who came up with that look where you stick a Jelly Helm on a skinny armor and glorify it by spending millions of crowns? No offense. Also, I specifically noted that it was not random.

@ Michaelb

I think rommil, hadn and myself all just prefer skinny armors as a personal preference. Rommil and i always loved silver/jelly helms as a Mr. Potato head type helmet for accessories.

Your "and glorify it by spending millions of crowns" comment has no validity what-so-ever. Basically you are simply criticizing wings, tails, auras, and halos, yes? Since any costume that has wings, tails, auras, and halos would be "glorified with millions of crowns", i fail to see exactly what you are trying to say. Should "rich" players avoid these accessories simply to avoid the judgement of others? I really would like to know where these type of comments come from and/or what they truly mean.

if...

two people could invent the lightbulb at the same time from half a world apart (same with printing press), then surely multiple parties could create the same look in a world where the options are this limited. By your logic, there are no original or creative costumes on the game...no?

It sorta boils down to this.
IMO, the only items worth accessorizing are Demo Helms and jelly (quick included).
IMO, skinny armors are the only ones that look good (and tabards).

You see plenty of others who prefer to accessorize:
Cowls
Cloaks
These people invariably put ears and a tail, or ears + halo and wing/tail.

So creativity in this context comes down to being a relative term. We must define original and creative into the context of working on a very limited palette of options. Given this limited palette, creativity and originality becomes relative to one another. And given this "creative/original theory of relativity" you are still going encounter multiple people coming up with the same ideas at the same time. And those players are going to create this ideas based upon the principles they find desirable. (for me its skinny armor and accessorizing the helmets that i like).

For a giant subset of the game it involve that twin pony tail helm, glasses, ears, flower, ribbon.
For another giant subset its involves chaps.
For another giant subset it involves the cowl+ cloak and ears or tail.

Thats another area where originality and creativity come into play. How many different cool looking costumes can you make? How many that are nothing alike? How many that are subtle twists on the same variation? Whats the purpose behind your costume? etc. etc.

So we must take terms such as "originality" and "creativity" with a grain of salt. Its not as if any of us designed our own costumes and sprites in our own 3-D rendering program. We are all just dressing up random toons OOO gave us, with random toon modifiers they gave us.

Thus there is no reason to make a "me vs. you" component to it, or to mock me for with the "who came up with jelly helm and skinny armor" comment.

p.s.
Canozo was being funny with his quick post. There was no offense behind his gg, i'm 95% certain.

anywho

lets get back to showing and listing the great costume makers of our era XD

and didn't mean to derail this thread by stating that pawn and i have my favorite costumes. Of course we do. I could clearly have made any costume in the game i wanted (pawn likewise), and we made these ones because we deemed them the COOLEST POSSIBLE IN THE GAME. So thats what we wanted, its what we got, and what we like best. No harm no foul.

i suspect this will largely be true with any of the people with great costumes in the game. We all make (by-in-large) what we like best, as long as we can afford it.

Take Terskaroff's Deadly virulusk plus tabard with unclean. I like it for two reasons, #1 it has an unclean aura on it. #2 its Terskaroff and i like terskaroff. its his unique look.

Now me personally, i don't like mohawks on lizard helms, i don't like lizard helms with tabards, and i don't think the colors quite add up. I wouldn't make it, wouldn't wear it, in fact, i wouldn't like it, if not for ITS TERSKAROFF!!!!!!!! And i like Terskaroff, and i've come to like the costume i associate with him. And i've come to find reasons to like it (unclean aura, and its uniqueness) to justify this whole tautological paragraph XD

Hm...
I'm sorry Rommil, but when I saw all those costumes, all I saw was millions of crowns.
I really don't think they look that great.
Except for #3, that looks nice.
The proto armor costume is good.
Best proto costume? nah.
But that's only my humble opinion :)

I hear talk about awesome costumes, but I barely ever see anything past bland old conforming color palettes.

Think outside the box and inside the chimney, chumps. I want to see complementary colors and things that match while completely disregarding OOO's dumpy mismatched color schemes.

You want some of mah costumes >:U

I don't have a lot since I spent most of what I had earnt making my cheese costume and I'm still trying to find them elusive cool helm guards for my T2 LD set. But here ya go! :P

No. 1. My First Costume

http://i.imgur.com/p3QEb.jpg?1

So this is my first costume which started it all. I never really aimed to get any accessories but once I had the funds and found out I was able to make myself look different to every one else. Well, I was sold. I did buy some CE during the anniversary promotion so I got the party hat from that and I like how it looks on my emberbreak helm :P Not really that great but whatevs xD

No. 2. The Mighty Cheese Knight!

http://i.imgur.com/6Io0z.jpg?2

Okay, this is my main costume, one which only consists of Regal shtuff xP I made this costume because of the whole thing about me being obsessed with Cheese and being a Mighty Cheese Knight, so on and so forth. I really wanted on which resembled Cheese and what better than Regal? (Rhetorical questions ftw!). I even changed my personal colour to Amber so I could make it even better :3 I will admit though that I did buy the Regal Vertical vents with RL money. It was the only one on the market at the time so I went all rage mode and was like 'MAI CHEESEY EARS >:U!!!!!!'. Anyway, a Cheese costume.

No. 3. Inspired by Electro

http://i.imgur.com/7qaGN.jpg?1

A friend asked me to help him design a costume so we set out looking through his arsenal for some base Armour/helm. He decided he would like to work with the 'Fused Demo Helm' so I was like SURE! I myself had one at the time for my LD set (Changed now so it's just a costume item for me xP) which I'd accessorized. He wanted a piece of Armour to match the green look and decided on the magic cloak. I have a Divine Mantle so I also chose to use that then I helped him get his first accessory, a military pipe :3 As in choose it, not help him funds wise xD I obviously being a vigilant individualist was like, I ain't going to get the same accessories and decided to get a mustache. I then started to work around that trying to not only fit with the colour scheme but to also, Not. Fit with the colour scheme. This is my final result, I decided to get a Regal Vitakit because it goes with my Cheese obsession. Pssst, that's where I put all 30k of my cheese :P

No. 4/5. T1 LD Costume/s

http://i.imgur.com/NcLwj.jpg?1
http://i.imgur.com/hzDS7.jpg?1

Okay so I'm big into T1 LD so I went and made myself a costume to differentiate myself from others. The first image is of my costume in Haven, I really like bombheads and thought that the Emerald one would go well with my circuit breaker armour ^^ I personally think this is one of my better costumes.
Now the second image is of how I look in a game. I still like it although I do believe I need to change the Helm Guards ._. They looked a lot better when I had a purple personal colour xP

No. 6. T2 LD Costume

http://i.imgur.com/sKLYg.jpg?1

Okay final one. This is my T2 LD set. I've always liked the Jelly set and the vented visor but never really was able to use them. So I put them together and I like it xP Of course I do otherwise I wouldn't have it :P Not much to say about this just that if you see me in T2 LD you now know who's in the Jelly armour coming for you >:U

Anyway there's all mine at the moment. I'm sorry for the paragraphs for each pic I just wanted to give a tiny bit of a background on how/why I did certain things :3
Hopefully mine aren't TOO bad and I can't wait to see more from others that post here ^^ Should be nice to see :3

EDIT: Oh and if you want specific accessory colours/names for a certain costume just ask :P
EDIT 2: I also gotta get a cap of one of my friends costumes. I's the best costume I've ever seen xP

Hi, Everyone

@ Rommil - I'm glad my pics of you were of some use, :)

@ Tersakaff - Kudos to you for creating a fashion thread that offers critical feedback. That takes a lot more confidence and courage than I have!

I do not think my costumes are the most creative or best looking, but I do think they look nice, and I'll try to explain why.

The Dragon Princess - It's a fiery motif with heavy colors. The Volcanic halo really completes since a princess needs a crown. I chose a Fiery Flourish (Upraised! - cool huh?) and a burning dragon scale shield to match the costume.

My Battle Gear - The Radiant Silvermail is my favorite armor and getting the regal wings for it was one of the happiest days in SK for me. This is my default costume when I'm fighting. Since Radiant Silvermail has not matching helm, I went with the angelic line Heavenly Iron Helm because, altough Radiant Silver is from the drake scale dragon line, it looks angelic, and teh grey color of this helm with the prismatic halo feature and cool grey mohawk accessory looked so nice with it. Also, the Argent Peacemaker is my favorite gun and its regal colors match so nicely with the costume.

Valkyrie - This is my dress-up-and-look-pretty costume. Flower clip for my hair, matching handbag, and divine wings - so lovely! i like the sultry eyes too.

Fractured Arcane - Sometimes it's fun to create matching outfits with other players. Credit to St-Leone for helping me to create and put together our matching outfits. The upraised Cold Iron Vanquisher looks so baws!

Lol this kinda became a "post your costumes and vote for yourself" thread. Therefore the roster is removed.

@Mike

Nope. That's wrong. Most of his costumes are also pretty neat while also using expensive stuff. And what Rommil said.
Also it's not their fault for liking that look man, stop shooting them down for it lol.

@Neonde

Tersakoff laughs at Neonde.

@Xylka

YOUR GUILDMATOS.
THAT'S SO SPECIIFIIIIIC.

@Rommil

My name is Ters-a-ko-ff. ;~;

Eventually, due to the lack of accessory variation and the abundance of generally bad-looking accessories, patterns show up. Personal preference also comes into play- I love plate mails and cowls, as well as kitty ears. So I use them lots.

And that's a pretty old costume, back when I had less than half the knowledge I have today- therefore it's not the greatest technically, but I love it. It's a personal costume. :) I don't wear it much nowadays, if at all, but I still love it. Not for technical perfection, but because it's just mine.
I removed the mohawk though because it would really really annoy me there, it was too light. >.<

@Serell

Rommil is both a rich and fashion sensed player. While I may not agree with all his costumes and I may not like them all, whether from a personal or technical point of view, he still has plenty I like and I can see his designer skill.
@Boon

OOO's color schemes are amazing. We do not have limited resources to work with, thus costumes are very limited. Complementary colors- look in the link I put up and I can assure you you will see at least one.
...
Unless you're talking about something along the lines of snarbolax+skolver. If you are.. then you just have that... special kind of fashion sense and I respect your preference- as long as you respect mine of course.

@Weegee

Besides your cheese knight costume, I can't say I enjoy your others, however as I said, it all comes down to personal preference, and mine is one damn strict and technical preference. :P

@Hadn

Yep, as I said in my OP.
And that's a nice picture! While I may strongly disagree with some of your costume but strongly agree with others, as you've said yourself, you're not a designer, rather just a person who wears what they like. :) And I've seen the fashion sense in you and you're one of the persons I look up to.

@Vescrit

Ikr?

@Bubble

Yup, as I said, they're pretty neato.

@Mawa

And honestity.
Keeping it up, I'll tell you that I'm not a big fan of your costumes and doubt your designer qualities. :P However that's just my critical opinion- don't listen to me if you don't wanna, and don't take it personally. I'm honest with everybody, not just you. :3
You're not here for a critique so I won't go into detail- I'll just say that they aren't technically matchy. The last one is a bit better though.

I am going to make a shock

I am going to make a shock themed costume from Mercurial Demo Suit and 3* Shock Breaker Helm, and I'm wondering - what accessory colours beside Toasty would match it?

I already put a Fancy Spike Mohawk on the helm, which from retrospect was a big mistake, but I'm not going to swap it for another because that would be a waste of crowns. Do you think I can "save" this costume with right choice of other accessories?

EDIT: I wanted to post that in the other costume thread, I had both open at the same time, sorry :/
