Well if the values of the resistances are actually shown as different, then it is indeed possible that one could have more resistance than other. If say, you have both the 2* Cobalt Helm and the 2* Cobalt Armor, their resistances should provide you with the exact same defenses as the other piece unless one has a Unique Variant.
