Proper, full gamepad support (aiming in all directions)

I started with an Xbox 360 pad, but I soon realized that no matter how much tinkering I did, there was no way I could smoothly circle strafe enemies and shoot them with the pad. I can move, I can toggle strafe, but there's no such thing as "aim direction." the simple solution here is to allow you to choose an analog stick to aim in any direction. I'd use the right analog stick on my pad to aim, ala Geometry Wars. I can use the right trigger or right bumper to attack.

Currently, mouse/keyboard is superior for control, but I don't think it's because it just is, it's because proper gamepad support has not been implemented. I prefer using the gamepad for game like this; it's more relaxed and comfortable. This is just preference of course, but the point is that there should be no technical reason why we can't aim properly with a gamepad. Lord Vanaduke is laughing at the gamepad's inability to circle strafe properly.

Correct me if there's already a way to aim fully on the gamepad natively while strafing.

You can do it.

You can set up one analog stick for movement and the other for facing/aiming. I'm not sure exactly how, because I don't have a game pad, but I've seen others play that way (on a Logitech gamepad that looked more like a PS3 controller). One person I play with is particularly fond of running down empty hallways while spinning just because she can.

Use the "facing" control options.

By default it uses the same analog stick for both moving and facing different directions; go into the options and set the "facing" controls to map to the other stick. It was easier than I expected, actually.

Try restarting.

I don't have a 360 controller, but I just had to make sure my Logitech was plugged in before launching SK. Plugging it in while the game's running doesn't seem to work. This is on Windows 7; it might be different with another OS.

I have moved around with the Gampad, but haven't actually used it in combot. Is it difficult, or easier than keyboard and mouse? I don't feel like wasting energy to find out xD

Gamepad support in this game

Gamepad support in this game is beautiful, follow what other people here are saying, and set LS directions to Move NWSE and RS directions to face NWSE and you'll be fine.

The only thing that they could do to make things easier on you would be to make it so that auto-target would be a toggle-able thing that you press once to "Lock-on" to an enemy and face him until he dies or you press the button again/change facing manually.

EDIT: Actually, having a laser sight on guns, or making your cursor not disappear when using a controller would be nifty too.

Thanks, everyone! I had seen

Thanks, everyone! I had seen the "face" options but didn't think the analog interpolation would be good enough, but it works. I agree an option to keep the cursor on screen or faint laser sight might be really nice, but this works for what I need. Now I can get back to the couch with gamepad in hand!

@NextTime000, I use a wired 360 pad (also use it for voice chat, since it's a good USB mic). I have a wireless and adapter, but haven't tried that. The game natively recognizes pads, and as we've seen here, it works well! Make sure you have the latest drivers for your gamepad. Yeah, you can do this. I

Yeah, you can do this.

I second the suggestion to have a toggle to keep the aim cursor visible with a gamepad. Would make gunning with a controller a lot easier.

Gunning with the controller

Gunning with the controller is the only bad part. I'd love if I had more options for locking on enemies when shooting, possibly if I could click the right analog to toggle on/off permalock.
