Revamped inventory system, menu/UI tweaks

I'm finding the current inventory system to be more and more clunky the more items I accumulate. Opening and closing lists repeatedly is very tedious, and trying to find the one material you're looking for in a list of 50 or so items is just not efficient. I suggest a more traditional box-type inventory, with tabs for all of the different item types. Similar in appearance the trade window, but possibly bigger. It would be much easier to quickly sort through materials with all of the icons right in front of you. Item names and descriptions could pop up on mouseover. Yeah, I get that they're listed alphabetically and all, but it's still a pain to scroll down and find what you're looking for, especially since I mostly go by the icon anyway and not the actual item name. It would just be more streamlined.

The social menu suffers from similar problems, mostly because it insists on showing me who is offline by default. If I can see who is online, isn't it obvious who isn't? I don't have any specific ideas for how to clean this up, but a list of 70 40-pixel-high names isn't working. I don't know if it would be possible to introduce this without making it even clunkier, but it would be nice if it grouped together your friends or guildmates who were all in the same party, and/or listed everyone in the party by username.

Also please make it save your preference for allowing full inspect instead of making me allow it every time I start up the game.

I would really like the addition of a health bar for bosses. There's no reason not to. It's crucial to know if you've got the Royal Jelly on the ropes, or if it's not worth spending the energy to respawn. Please, please add this, if nothing else.

As a note, at the top of your inventory, there's some sorting options that certainly help with this. Myself, I like sorting my inventory by star rating. Looks better to me.

But yeah, some sort of organizing/sorting your inventory out better would be nice. It is certainly not fun to have over 50 copies of Caliburs from ragecrafting and not being able to find the one with that awesome variant you got! I would know, it happened to me! I spent quite a while looking for it, since scrolling makes things really confusing in this case.

Materials aren't really too bad. It's not too hard to find them when sorting by star rating, except for lower star ones - But I usually have tons of those, anyway.

For the social menu, I'm not sure if I get it - For me, there's no actual sorting options and it always shows the online peeps first. Though on either case, trying to find members on a guild of 80+ people can also be a bit troublesome; It'd be nice if there was an easier way to go through this.

Agreed completely on Full Inspect. I like showing off my gear! And getting some critics on it can be nice, too. I find it kind of silly it doens't save your preferences for it when logging out.

As for a boss health bar: Currently, we don't even have many bosses, so it's not too bad. But eventually a lack of a health bar would certainly become a problem. I still remember my first Vanaduke run - Final stage, up to 640+ EN revives, however no clue if we were actually close to killing him or not. We'd probably have given up earlier if there was some sort of health bar, so we could see we were actually far from killing him or not.

Regarding finding SPECIFIC

Regarding finding SPECIFIC things: You know there's a text box that you can type into to filter? Like 'shard' will remove all items but the shard bombs and the various colored shards, etc.

well it would be nice to have

well it would be nice to have items from the same set lumped together, ordered by star (ie cryotech alchemer / crotech mk II / cryo / hail). they don't have that do they? especially for looking at recipes, it'd just be more convenient

On the topic of UI tweaks,

On the topic of UI tweaks, I'd like if the gate map option was a small button on the mini-map radial.

I agree with everything.

I agree with everything.

Boss health bars I feel indifferently about. Usually you can tell how much health the boss has by what moves they are doing (eg. Jelly King turns pink) so I don't think they are all that necessary, but I wouldn't mind if they were there either.

The current inventory sorting

The current inventory sorting mechanisms are a band-aid solution. I shouldn't have to sort with a text box to find anything in my inventory in the first place. It should be easy to see everything you have onscreen at once. No other MMO I've ever played (or any other game) has a problem doing this.

I know this has been suggested a thousand times, but the minimap could be more useful. It'd be nice if it showed monsters, minerals, treasure boxes, etc. And if you could expand it.

Hmmm...The interface is ok, but it could be better. But what would I like to see, is if the inventory menu was like Diablo II style! =D

Mini map

YES! Please allow it to expand, if you don't want people to see the entire map from the beginning then have it blacked out until you explore that area (like in RTS games such as warcraft/starcraft). In its current state it’s kind of easy to miss an area entirely.

As for the inventory screen, I'm not a fan of it. Having it as a mobile, independent window would be awesome.
