just curious
How would you describe this games playerbase
Well about a fourth of them are young children who seem to have taken the dad's laptop > miniclip.com > Spiral knights > SK forums > wrong subforum path, and immediately suggest pets, radical CE changes, and more sonic promos in the arsenal. Though some just stay in game and beg for hours on end, or attempt to scam people unsuccessfully.
Another fourth of them are elitist, and complain about how easy the game is when they use all 5* gear with decent UVs, in some cases VH/Max. Many of them enjoy yelling at kids who post in general about CE prices, or complaining about the beggers in haven that haven't found the forums yet. About 75% of these players don't like the forums though, rough guesstimation.
The rest of the community seems to be fairly ignorant of the forums (I'd say about 90% guesstimation for this group) and all of the amazing threads held within, and work on their items and gear slowly over time, as that is what they have to do due to the overwhelming number of pro players running FSC at light speed to buy ce to run FSC more often. They're typically T2, some T3, and quit quickly due to the overwhelming task of earning 5* gear off of barely any crowns a run, and the lack of anything new after the jelly king and roarmulus twins in T2. After all, that is where they are held at for the majority of the game. They could earn more crowns if they just cut out a rev here, and broke a lamp there, or did something clever in haven. But they don't, because they're playing for fun, not self esteem.
wow these are very interesting opinions especially Serell's. keep them comming!
"or attempt to scam people unsuccessfully."
Because just yesterday i saw someone giving away their login credentials.
Right now, I kinda hate half the community.
The other half are normal people, and guildies that are level-headed, for the most part.
3/20 are trolls.
2/20 are annoying/weird/underage.
2/20 are good blokes.
0.2/20 are merchants.
12.8/20 are just the typical people who grind FSC 24/7 and are interested mainly on profit.
I agree with The-Fal. Yesterday, I met a good bloke who was handing out 10,000 crowns to anyone who asked.
60% are nice people, at least far nicer than the communities of other games. They are respectful of others and are kind.
20% are lil' kids who found the game thru miniclip. They beg and spam and die a lot. Those who have found the Forums tend to make rage threads and pet suggestions.
19% are FSC farmers who want to make money and treat the game like their job. These guys tend to have little offline life, or no life at all.
1% are jerks and trolls. These guys usually suck at the game, but whine about how it's easy. They make rage threads and troll.
I fit nicely into the 60% but lean just a lil' bit towards the 19%.
annoyng space monkyes in medieval-themed power armor
For such a great game, with praiseworthy staff, the community is pretty unforgiving in general. There are those specks of light though, that I usually will find with the same people (you all know who you are), that brighten my day. I'll just make a point that not all younger players are whiny. I have a buddy in my guild who is a little young, but we have great conversations and he is a great leader. You know who you are, if you're reading this ;)
This game is more about playing with friends than anything. Guilds aren't really even required. Though when you reach real "end game" and there is nothing else for you to do.. you waste your crowns on rolling UVs, farming FSC with friends, visit the forums and read some rage topics and on a blue moon find a good topic. Also at this point you typically moan at Three Rings to make more clockworks content.
Lets see...
~15% are just naive and don't know a lot about the game. They like the game, but don't understand things like the economy and some of the finer details about gate construction and gate maps. They probably get a few of the game mechanics wrong at times. About 1/3 of them will openly admit their mistakes, while the others will be a bit immature and headstrong with their notions.
~25% are just demanding. They want better CE price, they want more crowns, they think its unfair that said stuff is difficult to obtain, they think its unfair that people who spend money and leap ahead of them, and they are generally focused on themselves and how to improve their own situation.
~10% are semi-P2P players who are at late-game. They probably have spent like $20 a while ago, and spend maybe $5 ever few months. They are at the later parts of the game, full 5* and working on getting some fun little side-projects to entertain them until new content pops up. They don't have any sort of blind hatred for absurd CE prices, P2P or F2P player-bases, and are generally relaxed about the entirety of SK.
~1.5% are the heart of P2P player base, spending about $20 every other week or so. They fuel the CE market and generally buy whatever they think looks nice or would be fun. They focus more on becoming the best of the best, striving to just be barely better than the others. Some see them as disgusting pinnacles of greed, while others see them as idols to be worshipped. These ones tend to be highly skilled and can steam-roll the average player
~2% are really charismatic and social P2P gamers. You seem them a lot creating or taking a massive part in large and successful guilds. They tend to become icons for their guild, representing what it means to be part of their guild. They tend to be playing SK for the sake of friends, using the game as a glorified chat room as often as an actual adventure game.
~46.5% are grinding. They aren't demanding new content or anything... they are just trying to make crowns. They are mindlessly grinding things like FSC and RJP to make as many crowns as possible for as little energy as possible. While other groups also grind a lot, this group focuses heavily on profit over fun. Despite this, most of these people are just average teenagers. Some of them can be rather rude and unpleasant, while at the same time you can find dozens of enjoyable friends in the mix. Most people are here trying to have fun.
That's my take on everything
A bunch of little kids with names like xXxXDaRkSePhErOtHXxXx who come onto the forums asking for reductions in CE price and more [crappy] cosmetic items.
THE END
Also, those little kids who scream "PIE!!11" and [crap] like that so than can lol so randum XDDDD
i'd describe the player base as frustrated.
Over ce prices, lack of new content, and over the games direction in general (i.e. see the generally negative reaction that most updates elicit.)
Jeez, fit that 10% almost perfectly... now I feel less like a special snowflake :/
I would be in that 2%, but my guild has its niche and prestige to speak for it, also the great community. It's also almost always full, considering how little we pimp it out.
Now that I think about it, that 10% is probably far smaller... It's just I've restricted my F-list/guild to said people, so I'm probably seeing them a lot more than most.
There's the #s-k council who make fun of posts in the forum. >=3
Ignore the Title.
Err, less than 9% forumers, 15%~~ Awesome P2P players, 20-30% F2P players (me being in there)
10%~~ Silly Noob P2P players, 5%~~ newbies, 5%~~ Noob F2P players, Other Random crap in here.
~~~~~~~~~ Means Estimate ~~~~~~~~~~
come to think of it, i used to be one of those ignorant players, that didnt know much, and would always wish for the economy to change, now that im more used to the game and its people im one of those 40% stuck in tier 2 spammin jkp and rt to get crowns, and ce
@Traevelliath
I don't fit into any of the categories.
Tennis is sad.
Thus why I have huge amounts of uncertainty in my post.
There will always be exceptions
15% scammers
10% meme lovinvforum people
40% FSC grinders
20% complainers
25% good people
Nidhoggr cussed GET HIM GMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ridiculous. Take that to mean what you will.
