I've recently aquired one and noticed a pretty big decrease in DPS on Vana, even poisoned, compared to Blitz.

Could it be that it is intended to be used in conjunction with a Blitz, so once it poisons Vana the Blitz can deal massive damage?

I wish it were able to effectively solo Vana by itself though. I will do a Plague+Blitz Vana once Im home, and test if using plague till poisoned and then switching to blitz is actually effective, maybe try to beat a personal record...

What do you think about the Plague Needle, and how is it effective?

very meh

It's decent, but that's it. Poison vials + 4 Blitzes > 1 Plague + 3 Blitzes

I have one, and its really not all that effective. You get the poison on the 2nd or 3rd charge and its really not all that great. What Metagenic said.

Main issue with plague is that if you used blitz in the same situation, the target would be dead.

Plague Needle vs. Blitz Needle

The Plague Needle is too weak in comparison to Blitz Needle, and can barely, if at all, catch up to un-poisoned Blitz Damage when poison is in effect. Ultra poison vials also provide a slightly stronger poison than the Plague Needle does, making it even less attractive of a weapon. The only positive attribute would be not having to worry about inflicting poison manually, as the gun does it for you.

It's garbage on Vana

With a Damage Med I only see 174 damage per bullet in charge with poison inflicted. Also, I need to have Damage VH in order to take down Trojans in one charge with it(I have not tested Damage High as I have no Low boost to use for that) so I have Fiend Medium in my set. Ultimately it does crap damage on Vana. I make up for this by using its regular attacks between Shivermist placement since having poison inflicted then is beneficial as I can't give a charge attack anyway.

Now, where this gun does shine, is with menders. It's a fun part of my gunner set along with Biohazard, Hail Driver, and Sentenza. I wish it were a bit stronger, but it's still fun to use. Not worth the tokens unless you love doing PvP for inferior weapons.

blitz still kills menders just fine, so it's not really a good point.I think poison would increase damage by fixed amount (not percentage), that is small if monsters are already weak against certain damage type, but by a huge amount if you attack them with incorrect damage type.
Plague + Blitz is suck I think. Poison status from plague is unreliable since it won't stay forever.

You're missing the point about menders. The idea isn't to kill them, but to poison them so they kill other mobs.
