Playing swordmaster, so I wear Dusker armor. In the process of repeatedly grinding RJP, and I find that I really tend to get gibbed quickly by almost everything. Brush by a Jelly? a quarter of my health. One hit from a gun puppy? a third.

I'm wearing three star armor, so why do I take so much damage from everything?!

There's no nice way to say it... you're a bad player. You have to avoid getting hit in the first place.

Tier system

Each tier is supposed to be twice the difficulty of the last. In T1 you probably waited for a couple little hits before even half a bar of health goes, but in T2 things do more damage. The point of living is not to get hit, because that means losing health, and losing health means death. And death is bad. Usually.

Also, in T2 enemies start doing proportionately less damage in normal than specialized; piercing attacks will seem to be pillow punches, but everything else will nail you pretty hard. Remember to shield when something comes up to you and asks you to bend over.

"Aha! I have you now, little robot thing!"
"Nope, shield."
"Oh, darn."

Be careful using your shield, just like your knight it has a limited health and defense rate. The difference between you and your shield is that thing on your arm regenerates health over time when damaged, so use its health instead of your own; it can grow it back.

I'm not bad

I use my shield plenty. I understand shield bumping, and shield canceling, and I do both. I block most things but I take oodles of damage when I don't.

You take the same damage as everyone else. If I stand in front of an enemy, I can die in no more than 4 hits in T2 too.
Hell, I'm lucky if I survive more than 2-3 hits on T3 without a vitapod....

Thats the difficulty of the game, there's nothing else to say.

Yeah the game starts focusing more on evading damage, instead of withstanding it. That's kinda why there aren't any "Tank" builds in SK (at least not any good ones beyond Guardian in Lockdown).

In Tier 3, being set on fire without fire resistance is about 1/4 of your health gone. I remember my first FSC runs where a single Slag Guard took off at least 1/3 of my health per hit that landed.

I always heard that this game

I always heard that this game was really offensively based, but it didn't make sense to me that I couldn't exactly go in and sword everything in a room to death. I guess it must be a fine balance between hitting and shielding. Thanks everyone, I guess I just need to get better at dodging! (and as someone who plays plenty of other difficult games kiting-style I never thought I'd have to say that haha)

Pulsar/Polaris/Supernova

Grab a Pulsar/Polaris/Supernova and shoot and push everything away and stand still from a distance. Helps to damage, pushing everything away, shocking and not getting hit.

Actually, by tier 3, its a fine balance of hitting and doing whatever you can to not get hit.

Even with a shield specifically designed to absorb a certain damage type, it only takes 3, maybe 4 attacks to break it.

It's offense based in the sense that you can deal a lot of damage, but you also TAKE a lot of damage. Dodging is very important in this game.

@ Zolota OH GOD NO BADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBADBAD and BAD.

You NEVER stand still when using that series of weapons. EVER.

...Ignore teh title.

Naow, Spam Calibur charges.

Works for me. :P

Seriously, shield a lot from every attack. Every. Unless its T1. T1 is just easy with 3* weaps and proto armor

Okay, I also never stand still while using my pulsarpulsarpulsarPUUUULSAAAAR [insider]
If enemy too close for having bullets exploding => Backpedal while shooting
If enemy ideal range for exploding bullets => Run at enemy while shooting
If enemy in a corner => Stand still and shoot
If else => Terminate program

Use Your Brain!

As some people have said above me, use a gun. But if you want to go in close, wait until the precise moment, such as right after you dodge a gun puppy shot and its reloading, you go in and slash the hell out of that thing.

...Or you can use a shield.

Damage

The reason you take to much damage is that you don"t use your shield,OR you dont have Health Trinkets. I'm currently at 4 star and suck at T3 LD and take too much Dmg. Part of the reason to your taking Dmg is that the monsters deal higher Dmg in Lower Depths, like T2 and T3. So follow these tips and you will probably wind up pwning noobs and monster! Hope this helps.

Wrong!

No, don't shield! That bumps things away, and then they won't feel the wrath of your Bomb!!

Well, they are right. But you can't just shield and stand there. Be like a boxer: light on your feet, keep moving, and then sting those F***ers right in the back with your sword or whatever. Works well.

Shifting to T2, I remember I died a lot. I was all, this is nutz! And then I shifted to T3 and concluded the game could never be solo'd, ever again. Well, I still get pwn'd on some T3 zones, namely anything shock fiend themed. But you will get the hang of it over time.

Just remember this: keep moving. When in doubt, do NOT spam your attacks. Shield cancel will not always save you. So if you are getting ganged up on, smack them with a stun or shock vile, or use a freeze weapon, and back off. Then pick them off.

But yeah, I carry a +6 trinket, fully heated 5* set, and a handful of hits and I'm down. We just aren't made to be beat on.
