Me being the idiot I am, I've managed to buy and transmute a couple of the same item. Is there a way I can throw away the extras I won't need? some of them I also managed to bind to myself (D'OH!)

Go to the bazaar/west market area, talk to an NPC who has a crown based store (they take crowns for their merchandise), find the unwanted items in your inventory, click them to add them to your purchase/sales cache, amount profited/spent will show, confirm to get rid of the items and get money out of it. If it is not bound you may want to try auctioning them off first depending on values. The higher stank rank the item, the more crowns the NPC gives you for it; you may not always get the best deal at them so be sure to check both NPC and auction prices before dumping the items into the NPC to be destroyed.

first of all, why would you wanna just get rid of it? just sell it to those rip off vendors in bazaar or if unbound, in AH for really cheap price (since want it gone anyways) later on, you dont just wanna get rid of your stuff... you only do if you want to sell it
sell it to npc at haven bazaar, if unbind, try to sell it to other people or auction hall, you might have your cost back.
