For what reason did people start buying CE for extremely high prices?
Why?
King of Ashes
No new content or good promos out
Not many people buying CE with real money compared to usual
No real demand for CE right now
Somebody keeps dropping in price walls, I have a pic of one (which I can't upload currently, my hosting site is having issues) of a wall of 1,300 lots at 7,800cr per 100CE. I saw 1,400 lots not two days ago at 8,005cr per 100CE. That is why the price is staying high. For those that aren't good at the math that is 11,207,000cr that somebody made a wall with.

Because there are people who are willing to pay that much crowns. You can watch the buy orders being processed.
Imagine if all the 8k buy orders disappeared. The next highest buy order is placed at 6k. What will happen? Are CE sellers desperate to get a lot of crowns in short order? If yes, it will be sold at that price. If no, then no CE trade will happen.

Notice the 3000 bids for 7.8K.... this was taken a few days ago. Gwen is right in that someone is preventing it from going down. Of course, its for the long term betterment of the game as a whole.
Here is how the game works: OOO releases content every now and then, and with content comes sinks. Sinks come in 2 main flavors, material and crown flavor, and crystal energy flavor. OOO will angle the promotion to reflect the problems at hand- if the price of CE is too low, then they'll make more uses for energy, to make energy more valuable. For us to get more content faster, we need people to buy CE (short term gain). Conversely, if the price of CE is too high, OOO will angle the promotion to take in more crowns and less or no CE... which benefits people paying for the game with time as opposed to their ultimate goal, cash. However, if we want the game's playerbase to expand more, we need for the price of CE to go down, and for crowns to be better (long term gain).
So lets pretend for a minute that we care more about the game than our own equipment and circle of friends. How do we make the game succeed in the long run? Our goal is for Spiral Knights to be the biggest, best, most amazing game of all time... NOT for it to stay in the same place as we pay for a small amount of growth that will eventually die out. We need explosive growth, and this means that we need for the game's system to change massively. Once the world cares about the game, it won't go down as easily. But right now, very few people would miss SK if it vanished off the face of the earth.... after all, its just another greedy "F2P" game, right? So we find a way to fix the game into something that gains exponential growth as a factor.
Now, we may see a problem with the game, and we may talk about it, but chances are, it won't get fixed. OOO has their own ideas about how to fix things, and nothing we can do will make them change certain factors that need changing if it interferes with certain other features that they're making work. However, we can still make them angle the features in the correct way. If the prices are too high for CE, then we can expect a CR sink if the accessories to raise supply fail to fix things. If we give in and buy a ton of CE from them, they'll just make more uses for the CE we buy... which is great for them, as it means that more people will need CE, but we don't want that.
Another huge benefit to our cause is that players will start to get angry when we force the CE price up. Angry players are more likely to come onto the forums, make angry threads, and ragequit the game... and these things will again help to angle the "new content" into helping out the F2Pers.
Which brings up another good point. F2Pers. Most of us recognize that the game needs them to be, as they put in a ton of time, put videos on youtube, and do all of that. They may not be helping the devs eat, but they are doing wonderful things etc. Well a lot of them leave the game incredibly early, and thats what this is about- getting them to stay.
So thats my opinion on these things. I'll probably write an entire thread for that eventually. But for now, it can just be a post.
The evil forces on this planet do not want you to play this game so they used all their power to raise CE prices and dissuade you from playing this game.
Yes,that.Quite sure.
Athresh, It's Vanaduke's work, each kill vanaduke adds 0.1cr to price.

Do some research before you start posting next time. Please.
Ah,I should have known better! But it's only fair I guess, because no one likes being frozen, teased and poked with needles while his beloved minions are slayed right in front of him.
YOU NEED TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS YOU RECKLESS KNIGHT...BURN!!!!
May I suggest a bowl of Spiral Knights Cereal? There is "Hope" in every bowl. ><
While I know there's an economy here my personal playstyle is pretty much:
REPEAT run with friends until mist tank empty (FIEEEEEENDS XD I LOVE THOSE LITTLE GUYS)
UNTIL notice I have lots of crowns
add a bit to the top selling price, dump all my crowns into the market at that price, logout.
OPTIONAL: undercut the price of monster bones on the AH. I've accumulated so many. :3
The next time I play, more CE!
So...that's the reason. If I want to game a market I'll find a stockbroker thanks.
Greed beats ugly tail accessories any day of the week :o
