Some of you don't remember Super Mario Brothers 2, but for those of you that do remember that game., it was one of the best Mario games to be released by Nintendo. Now more to the point. Let's start with the 'basic' characters of spiral knights, say those little birds that are always flying to an fro. Now, if only they had a mask covering their face, then they would start to look more like a Nintendo-est character.

And let's not stop there, what about King krogmo?

Remember the final boss in Super Mario Brothers 2 what was his name.. Wart?

If you also pay close attention to the devilites, maybe they were all lay-offs from a dead game and found refuge here?
This even includes all the other monsters, drones included.. I'm just saying the similarities are far too obvious.

They clearly aren't obvious

They clearly aren't obvious enough. No one has ever made these weak connections before.

Did you know that Super Mario 2 you're talking about wasnt the real Super Mario 2, but just a redesign of another game with a mario pasted inside, because they tought the original Super Mario 2 was too hard for americans?

I don't see it.

Also the snipes look more like real birds than anything in any other game I've ever played.

The point is, it's almsot impossible to make a new creature that hasnt been designed before.

If you start digging around you'll find everything looks like something from an old game, be it intentional or by coincidence.

I still don't know WHAT the

I still don't know WHAT the heck King Krogmo is supposed to be. He's just a guy with one picture who accepts bribes and 'runs' PvP. It could have been a picture of a cat on stilts and it would not have changed anything thematically.

Maybe he's a devilite? A elite blarful? a new species of fiend?

THE "CEO" OF DEVILITES!?

That's how he got his riches!

Lol.

And the Wisps look like those phantoms in SMB2.

Maybe someone can use Spiral

Maybe someone can use Spiral Spy to put a Perfect Seerus Mask on a snipe. That way, we can compare the result to the masked birds from Super Mario Bros. 2.

>The similarities are so obvious! It's like they ripped off the game's characters completely and it only took the playerbase ~2 years to notice!

Yeah, nah. I had thought about the Krogmo and Wart before but after seeing them side by side they're not as similar as I'd thought.

Here's a real similarity

If you want a real close similarity, compare Saber's outfit in Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero to a knight wearing the Heavenly Iron armor. That is similar. :P

I think Nick did say that

I think Nick did say that Spiral Knights was inspired by many childhood games of the creators.

No.

There might be some passing similarities (tenuous to all but you OP) but there is no clear resemblance. When we create we draw upon that which has inspired us; sometimes onlookers with similar tastes are able to determine various influences. When we rip off something it's often much more alarmingly visible.
