What normal gun has more Knockback on charge attack? Valiance, supernova, ironslug, Neutralizer, or volcanic pepperbox? I need a defensive gun that can push back, or knockdown packs of enemies. I think valiance, ironslug, and supernova charge attacks explode immediately if you are backed into a wall. Which is better for playing defensively? and why?

Polaris :p Not only pushes enemies but also can cause shock to annoy even more.

Valiance may be you bets choice, since it works at any range.

On charge? You don't charge

On charge? You don't charge if you are being backed into a wall with no space to go. Take valiance for the all around kb. If you want huge kb, and you have the space/teammates who don't care, take the pulsar line.

I would assume the pulsar line to have the biggest kb on charge attacks, although I don't own a valiance so I could be wrong.

Ironslug doesn't fire fast enough, charge fast enough, and has too much of a movement debuff to use in your context. Pepperbox has that lack of movement during attacks, and shorter range compared to all the other guns you listed. For these reasons, I don't think these two weapons are what you want.

If your a gunner...

Though the valiance is fairly useful in a lot of situations, it IS only normal Damage.
It's sorta like the basic gun. I suggest you get the Pulsar line too, they are the best, and have massive kb with splash damage. If you are a Gunslinger, do not get normal damage guns (except for the blaster/valiance guns). Soo that takes the Iron Slug and Supernova out of the picture. I don't know about the pepperbox though.

Most gunslingers prefer element damage guns, instead of carrying normal damage guns.

Also in response to Demonicsothe, the iron slug is pretty much useless, the handicap on that gun is the same as the Callahan... and it does the same thing. Just get the Callahan if your going the Magnus line.

Couple of points

Valiance is the most versatile gun for survivability, allowing you to both kb at all times, and still do a decent amount of damage. Supernova actually has the most kb per shot. Polaris shocks at times, which means the enemy will not be pushed back. If we ignore damage, supernova is the best kb gun when comparing pulsars.

"Most gunslingers prefer element damage guns, instead of carrying normal damage guns."

Untrue. I would take a normal damage gun over elemental when fighting beasts and gremlins. And if you only compare the 2, a normal damage gun will do the most damage throughout clockworks in general. 2 families are weak to elemental, 2 resist, and 2 takes normal damage. On the other hand, a normal damage gun deals normal damage to all enemies. Since enemies resist more damage than they take, the normal damage gun will come out ahead of the elemental. If you were to rephrase it as most gunslingers prefer specialized damage over normal, then it would be correct.

Ironslug is, again, the normal counterpart of calla. If you were to go against the grain of all specialized damage, you would want a ironslug for the dodgey enemies. It also beats out callahan in general damage vs all of clockworks, as explained above. Granted, both families of dodging enemies are weak to pierce.

I was responding within op's vague description, which has the best/most kb. Your points on damage types is valid of course.

Of the guns listed, only supernova is capable of pushing back "packs" of enemies. I don't really get why you'd wanna play defensively in this game though.

I believe the valiance has the largest knock back on charge, although I could be wrong. I rarely use anything from the pulsar line and I haven't used their charge attacks in forever.

Uhh, strictly answering your question, it would be pepperbox, but you'd never use any of those in a corner.
