GUYS! CALM. DOWN.

Apparently, these little pests here, known as trolls, won't go away, so we'll definitely have to take this up a notch. But we have to do this in a civilized way! Isis, Kaiju, I know you love your nachos, but, please! (I can't emphasize that enough). Stop it with all the throwing them at all the trolls you find! And what does JANEF stand for anyway? (something 'bout nacho federation?...) THIS. Is what trolls lives to do! They love it! They are attention seekers, and they loves any kind of attention, which, apparently, you guys are GIVING them right now, by trolling back to the trolls.

We'll have to make some rules to stop these menaces, or else, the forums won't get any better than it was before.

1. DON'T POST ON THE TROLL'S THREADS/COMMENT TO THE TROLL'S POSTS

I definitely can't emphasize this enough. Everyone, just calm down, count to 10, go eat some cereal or whatever, and skip ahead whenever you see a comment or post made by a troll. Stop, think, act. STOP what you are doing, and asess the situation. THINK about what you will do about the problem. ACT and help keep AWAY the problem, rather then FUEL it. If you do this, the troll's threads will sink into oblivion, and you guys can all go snipe-hunting or whatevs.

2. DO. NOT. TROLL. BACK.

By doing this, you're basically telling the troll that you enjoy his threads, that he/she is amusing to you, and he/she will continue to do so. If you troll back, 3 things will happen, if not more;

1. You will not be any better off without him/her, as you have commited a troll post, and you have fouled the forum with another one of those foul, stinking, disgusting troll posts that continue to plague us. YOU will be as bad as him/her, and nothing can change that.

2. The troll WILL continue to post, as he/she has a motivation to reply to your post caused by your rage. Take that motivation out of the equation, and he/she WILL stop.

3. Life will go on, and nothing will have changed. What's the problem? EXACTLY. NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

3. TAKE A DEEP BREATH, AND STEP AWAY. LET THE GM's DEAL WITH IT.

Guys, this will be the most important and hard-to-not-break rule. Withink those little, pink, blobs you guys have that you call a brain, you are prolly raging, and thinking up nasty little insults to counter the troll's attacks. DON'T. Take my advice from previously; Stop. Think. Act. Stop what you are doing, Think about the results, and ACT. Leave the troll alone, alert a GM to the problem if you have to, and go on with your life. Also, alert the community that you have asked the GMs to stop the problem, as they prolly won't want a bajillion of the same requests in their mail.

I think that overall, this is the best thread against trolling that I've ever seen.

Can we please make this a part of the Spiral Knights forum guidelines? PLEASE?!

The idea here is extremely sound - I mean, these are all things that each and every one of us should be doing involving any type of bad behavior. If taken as a non-specific topic, this idea is one of the best I've heard.

I can agree with Pladypus on the fact that this thread is bringing attention to Pow specifically; if we had just left it at "The Anti Troll Guide to stopping trolls!", I think that this would have been much better. By focusing the entire idea on our "favorite" troll (SEE?! This is the point that we make of him), we both make it so that this type of idea is almost impossible to apply to any other trolls in our midst as well as create almost a shrine to the work that our trolls have done to destroy the SK community.

We seriously don't want him gone, the way that we respond to him. He's become some fond, lovable part that we enjoy about the forums...that scares me, the fact that we have made this the most interesting aspect of our forums. It's the type of "nemesis" love we have for fictional villains.

If we apply these steps, then trolls will disappear - they won't get any response from the community, so they will find another place to roam free and attack the gazelles that happen to cross their wrathful pathway through the forest.

Any imput, though, on this idea may be accepted as long as it contructively criticizes what has been posted here. If we just rage at it with meaningless phrases and sentences...well, you just disregarded what this thread was talking about. So, if we decide to comment on this, let's do it with constructive and meaningful conversation. Please.

I think we're gonna have to take it up a notch. Being nice to him is no longer an option, after what he has done to the community. However, it does not mean we have to be mean to him, either. Just be neutral, and let the GMs do their thing.

Unlike you guys, I have some sense to not make an all-out flame war that could lead to people leaving the forums! We want this community to GROW, not SHRINK! And if it is because YOU didn't have the guts to stop being such a noob and stop trolling everyone, then maybe you shouldn't even be here! Several people have already left the treasure vaults, because of the continual trolling that has happened since Pow came! Do you really think that trolling back is gonna help? Use that thinking cap of yours, if you HAVE one.

Agreed. New from the GD forums since that place is crawling with twits/trolls. Don't know this 'Pow' fella but that's besides the point. Never trolled on the SK forums, and will continue not to. I don't see any logical reason in it. I have done it a few times elsewhere and it left a really bad taste... wait... Anyway, didn't feel good. Either way I have come to love and tolerate trolls. Okay, I lied. If they dare defile the TV like they have the GD I shall have to rage myself. I love this place already, I haven't been annoyed by any posts that I've read yet, not always agreed with them but still, not annoyed.

Don't be twits guys. You only make yourself look bad.

I, believe in two things here.

1. SHADOWNOX - everything he has said here is correct. Trolls are attention seekers, they just do it in a different way. (this bit is partly aimed at plady) Trolls are people who post things that have nothing to do with what is being said, and want to get attention. If you rage and talk with emotion, like disgust, they will only be happier. If you want a more detailed explanation, go in Wikipedia and search "Internet Trolls".

2. ISEKENDER and KANKOA - Isekender's "The only winning move is not to play." because it is exactly what we need and Kankoa's fare decisions and stuff. *His criticizing is good, nothing else would be expected of his decision making...*

now, 1 thing i do not believe in:

1. PLADY'S IDEA OF BETTING THE CRAP OUT OF PEOPLE - this is no way to go, seeing as your only doing what the troll was doing, meaning your breaking the rules as well, so you'll get a warning/ban as well. You wouldn't be happy for that to happen, would you plady? time for a revolution commander, because we do not believe or accept your ideas!

so, all i have to say is.... KEEP CLAM AND FORGET THE TROLLS! (Not even the strongest of warriors will help here, all you need is to keep quite like a "civilian".)
