I know TONS of threads have been made about it, and I'm sorry to bring up an old topic, but this is bugging me ever since I made it to the core. What is it REALLY?? Is there any plan on Knights being able to delve any farther than the end of Firestorm Citadel? Or is the Core simply, in my nightmares, just eye candy?
The Core
It just bugs me that there's nothing to do after the core. Hopefully the upcoming missions will relieve some tension about this subject.
Shadow Lairs? :) The Danger Mission only discusses the Almire lore; nothing about The Core sadly.
Even if the core was opened, it would end eventually and it wouldn't offer anything other than some half-@#$ed storyline piece that explains why we can't leave Cradle.
This is speculation, but I've always liked to believe that the Sanctuary at the end of the Unknown Passage is inside the core. Never explicitly stated, but implied.
and thus the question 'how many updates does it take to get to the delicious gooey centre of Spiral Knights'
to which the answer is, 'infinity'.
Personally I'd like to say that breaking into the Core will allow people to tap on an infinite, renewable energy source.
Which is why we'll never get there.
Its many eyes and many arms have tried to ensnare me, seeking to devour my being. The core is ever watching. it wants to consume all that we are and will stop at nothing to do so. It is the darkness that demands to envelop all who dare approach it.
Tнϵ Cοʀϵ Awɑiтs.
[Edit: Please don't spoil too much.]
I do believe that as well, except I have a few clues to back up.
1) The Sanctuary is all white, to the point it might be blinding; if you see the Core from the exterior, there are vivid beams of light going out of the metallic shell holding it.
The last Recon Module from the Alpha Squad also says the Core "began to open, filling the place with such a light, such an intense, blinding light".
2) The Echo Stones are actually stones that allow you to hear the Core talking, as seen in the first one: "You are safe here, Knight. Within this dream, its many eyes cannot see you nor can its many arms reach you."
Since the Echo Stones allow us to hear what the Core says, and in conjunction with the quote above and this from the third Echo Stone: "This world was created to protect me. Vulnerable in slumber, worlds were drawn to shield me from the darkness. This world has become my prison.", it can only mean one thing:
The Sanctuary is IN the Core. Gentlemen, we have found a way to The Core! We have found a way to THE CORE!!!
dude, no... that echo stone is talking about cradle...
and the core is just, in my opinion, a prison of some kind for something inside... some deity/vanilla pudding needing protection
The Core is a cuirass to protect what we believe is the "energy source" from the Swarm. The energy source is an entity which houses a lot of power, but most likely can't make use of it itself, so that is why is protecting itself with the Core. The Swarm and the Core entity are rivals and know each other from the ancient times of Cradle, and their origins are unknown.
That is the current info we have.
........-__-
No one has arrived at the fact that the alpha squad were absorbed by the light, and the echo stones are each one of them speaking :P
Gauntlet Recon module: I hope to return one day to the surface, to a sun, to a place where peace is more than a fleeting dream.
Echo stone Rabid Snarbolax:But this dream is fleeting. Use what is here to prepare for the battle to come. It knows of you now. It will find a way out and come for you.
Euclid did the recon mod for Snarby and the Gauntlet, so its him for the Rabid Snarb echo stone
Ice queen Echo Stone:I dream...
Within my dream, I see your legion, falling to this world like burning stars.
You fall with purpose, burning ever brighter as you reach for the heart of this world.
Well, the fact that Cradle is made of parts of other planets is all here.
Red Roarmulus Twins:
This world was created to protect me.
Vulnerable in slumber, worlds were drawn to shield me from the darkness.
This world has become my prison.
In his madness, the architect betrayed the pact. Twisting his creation into a game of death, it now devours all who enter its iron embrace.
The core shell was created to protect the light from the darkness. Its the prison of the light. The architect- King Tinkinzar- betrayed the light and twisted the clockworks- his creation -into a game of death, devouring all who enter its iron embrace.
Darkfire Vana:
It devoured the knowledge of time... Memories of the dead... The hearts of kings and the souls of their people... Good and evil... It consumed.
It grew stronger, endlessly mirroring itself within the space of my dream. Endlessly mirroring... Expanding... Infinite.
What it was before, it is no more. Neither beast nor god, it is a creation unlike all.
It is... The Swarm.
Well, the Swarm consumed everything. Memories of the dead... the hearts of kings- Vana -and the souls of his people (thats why their zombies).. good and evil... it consumed.
The entity that turned Lord vanaduke from a almarian to that... huge sad looking ugly big fat lump of mace wielding fat, is the swarm.
....then again, I might be banned for sharing my imagination which is probably mostly true. Read before Ban! *sacrifices*
And all of that means that if we jsut open the core like nothing, the darkness will enter and do it's stuff, so we have to defeat the swarm once and for all first.
NOT THE CHICKEN VS. THE EGG ARGUMENT AGAIN, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
It's simply placed there for the sake of objective and will develop no further than its current state.
I'm also basing my theory off the Entrance to Core module. It talks about almost the exact same situation as the end of the Unknown Passage.
A Recording from Parma, Alpha Squad Recon:
We are at the end of the line. Pursued by some kind of terrible darkness we are forced into the unknown.
As we neared the Core- I don't know how to describe this really... the shadows came alive and began to attack us. Rulen became enveloped in it and by the time Grantz freed him his body was badly burned. He said it felt like both fire and ice.
And then we could go no further. As I record this, the darkness is nearly upon us, comsuming the world we see, the light.
But then the Core, it began to open, filling the place with such a light, such and intense, blinding light. Euclid has made the call; faced with the darkness, we'll enter the core, enter the light.
This will likely be my final recording.
If you've completed the Unknown Passage, then this should be some serious Dejavu.
Uhh... no.
Each of the Echo Stones are the Core's messages.
-The "stars" are the knights who crashlanded into Cradle.
-"This world was created to protect me. Vulnerable in slumber, worlds were drawn to shield me from the darkness. This world has become my prison." The "world" described is Cradle, a mash of different places, which was created to protect the core, as described by the second sentence of the quote.
-What turned Vanaduke into such a monster wasn't the Swarm, it was Vog. It was said somewhere that he was changed by some force of nature(key word there). If anything, we see more of the Swarm in Snarby rather than Vanaduke. The Echo Stone could have been talking about Darkfire Vanaduke instead.
There are no plans, that the playerbase is aware of, about content in the works that goes into the core. It seems to be just there for looks and storyline for now.
