I hate gambling!

I am sure people may consider this sour grapes because I was not "lucky", but seeing there is no feed back system in SK and I doubt anyone cares I thought I would stick to the internet tradition of posting to a forum!

First I have enough in game money to do largely what I like (not interested in going stupid on MAX UVs), however I do like feel that I am doing my bit to support the game I enjoy playing, if promos are created with good items I like show my support with 30-40 bucks. The quality of items has been some what lacking in promos of late so I was very please to see the Solstice one seem to have 6 nice looking things. Even better with the boxes, if you put in more money you get you can get the discounts from the better quality packs. Seeing the battle pack offered 3 boxes for 30 dollars, I thought that would suit me well.

I bought early hoping to take advantage of being an early mover. This is of course, were things went wrong, first rather than getting 3 boxes, Only 2 arrived, contacted support as I thought this should be pretty easy to fix, just check my records and my mail, and I will get my missing box... but no... my support request is close with a message saying we are looking into it, surely if it was being looked into the support request should be left open as its not resolved, and they will get back to me in a few days... completely losing that "advantage".

Not having used support much, I have to admit I was complete confused by the support web page, thinking I was doing the right thing I initially used "email" support, however later my Guild Master explained there was another "raise ticket" option, which I then used. I am confused why there seem to be 2 different system and when they should be used, perhaps just have one? Also the support web page renders VERY badly under the steam browser, making it near impossible to use (White boxes on White are not very good!).

Probably I should just have given up at this point and sold the boxes unopened. However I was pretty disappointed with things, so not knowing the percentages, as may have been posted to the forums however they were NOT visable in the advert in game, and clearly I get trolled buy the promo getting a 1 and a 2 variant tickets. Fool on me for not checking the percentages first. When I did see them I frankly was rather angry and upset, ok there are been ugly items, and poor colours, however all of them have the advantage of being "rare" given enough time. A 45% change to get a ticket for an infinite game resource costing at 20kcr JUST SUCKS, to be frank is value is so little, its would be hardly any better than not buying the promo (*in fact probably worse). Also it is just a second chance to GAMBLE, they currently cannot be traded, and so the chance is I probably won a low UV "worth"... a premium of 1kcr at best!

One place where players have been able to make a living was in the UV market, ok we have not seen the effect yet, but I think this promo just trashed that market to as people offload UVs, and 75% of the boxes generate UVs! I am sure someone thought these tickets were great "filler", however I wish people had thought first what effect it would have had on the player base. What was wrong with the rose set days, 6 nice items, one in six chance to get any of the items. I feel sure that three rings feel by lower giving percentage it will encourage people to spend more, however in my case (and I am sure I am not unique) its encouraging me to not spend at all. This was the first promo I have bought since the love auras.

I realise there is nothing I can about this, and expect to be trolled by my fellow forum users, however the one thing I can do is decide if to support future sales the steam summer sale is coming up, and unless there is a good chance to get a reasonable item, I think my money is better off in my pocket or "invested" in some other steam game. When you think about it the CE price has dropped by 1k cr, so if you had bought a non promo pack, and sold the CE for cr you would have made 35kcr! Which is actually better "value" than the promo!

Having said that someone (who i will not name as I don't want the to to be spammed with beggers) was kind enough to give me a summer crest did cheer me up a little, as it was one of the items I had hoped to get.

... this game is full of

... this game is full of gambles. Life in Spiral Knights: Rolling UVs like dices trying to get six but to no prevail. Opening Iron Lockboxes that contains of bunch of good looking accessories which some of it are worthless, looks like jackpot machines.. ugh.

I'm insanely out away of looking at Punch and keep myself away from this dangerous furry. The Lockboxes will contain stuffs that ye might not want. Or just a stuff with bad price tag to sell. 0.0

yes I understand that

yes I understand that Thunderbog, Promos were however different, back in the early days you used to get a good item, if you put NEW real money into the game (which is what is needed). Over time this changed into being just a chance to gamble with real money for the a "Jackpot" item that can be sold for a large amount of in game money. As I said at the beginning, I am NOT a gambler, which i consider separate from the randomness of luck. When you have a system where the Odds of success are stacked that the majority of people taking part will walk away with nothing, I consider it gambling. As someone who has spent alot of time successfully playing the REAL world stock market, I understand the difference between gambling, luck, and a calculated risk.

Also don't forget Rolling UVs was one way that a large amount of crowns where removed from the system, these tickets are effectively injecting alot of crowns into the system. At least with accessories they were Crown neutral, and resale on AH removed alot via TAX.

Oh I certainly feel with you, dude.

Myself I managed to open around 332 of those lock boxes (yes i've counted), and not only was I disappointed in my gambling luck, but there was actually released a patch 1 week after, making chances of getting so-called "rare items" a lot bigger. I looked around me, and saw people getting scarves, wings, auras and whatnot all the time, while all I had, was a bunch of useless com units laughing in my inventory. This just strikes me as highly unfair, considering the huge amount of money I've spent on this game altogether. I feel like I've supported the game a lot with my spendings, and no I am not saying I deserve anything because I spent real money, but I feel like the money I've invested in this game, was a huge waste. But hey, my problem.

So yeah, I really feel sorry for the people that have been somewhat ripped off by this game, but then again it was their choice all along.

332 boxes opened at 750 CE each = 249,000 CE

it was their choice all along.

Gambling is a problem.
And whether you like it or not, Three Rings not only facilitates problem gambling, but encourages it.
The odds are posted there for the gambler's benefit.

But you'll notice that the Iron Lockbox's odds remain shrouded in mystery.
Not only is this most likely due to the insanely poor odds of getting anything nice out of there, but because it is their money maker for the long haul and having people know there's a tenth of a percent chance they will get the item they want might make them think twice before they drop their money.

10 different styles for every accessory.
36 different kinds of accessory available from the box.
Even at an equal rate over all accessories there is only a 0.36% chance you will get the item you want.
I seriously doubt the odds for getting a prismatic item are above 0.1%.

So I dunno, maybe consider that before you throw money at keys.

How I like to play this game,

How I like to play this game, is if I feel like I did good with my recent "promo haul" as I call it (buying energy when it is cheap after a promo + selling energy when it is high and making profit), then I reward myself with a silver key and a lockbox :3

I only give myself a silver key and a lockbox on rare occasion, just because the price of it is so expensive and the chance of actually getting something is sooooo rare.

Treat it like I do, like the lottery in real life. You don't expect to win the lottery when you buy a ticket. MOST people never buy more than one ticket. It's just on occasion. Just for fun.

Don't ever expect anything good out of the lottery. Don't try and "force your luck".

Second, this promo. Love it.

Why I love it? Things are actually nice and rare. Well, lucky me opens my box and gets a Sunshine Aura so stab a knife in my chest because I probably shouldn't have any right to not like it xD. I look pretty snazy now. And hey, at least this thing is rare unlike those dragon wings / other non-rare guaranteed promo accessories which 60% of people and their mother have.

Second, check out the drop in the market and how it looks on a graph. It is a fairly good drop in the price of energy, and if that is your thing (I personally need the prices to be high after buying CE for a promo), then you should be all about gambling.

Gambling on a promo as much as the solstice promo = huge profits for OOO and the price goes down.

Huge profits for OOO = this game lasts longer, since they have money to develop it. If you say, oh, they won't use that money to develop it? Well, at least they have the money needed to develop the game than not have the money to develop the game.

Although the gamblees tend to use a lot of money, that sort of is how it works in real life as well -.-

And OOO does a good job makin' gamblees look snazy. You cannot deny it.

tl;dr gambling is good for this game. Just don't be the gamblee x3 and don't take it out of control. Gambling every now and then (a silver key + lockbox once a month) can always be fun.

tl;dr and dr the tl;dr version; treat solstice boxes like silver key lockboxes due to the chance to find stuff. I have sympathy for the OP, however, because he didn't know what the percentages were. Neither did I when I opened mine.

I just want to know why the

I just want to know why the devs are so secretive with their content. If they TOLD us what they'reworking on and how the development process is going AT ITS CURRENT STATE, then maybe we could offer our advice AS THEY WORK ON IT so we aren't left to rage about it when it comes out because it would be influenced by our own advice in the end >_>

If they gave us a blog where they talk about what's going on, and WHY, then maybe they wouldn't get as much rage. We shouldn't have to pay money just to know what they're making (I'm looking at you testing server.)

This is actually the best promo for non-gamblers.

Why? Because you get one item from it, and one item only: the solstice gift box. Not a gambler? Sell it to someone who is. Each is worth 2-4k CE at the moment (2 only if you're super-impatient and want to sell straight away). No other promo so far has offered such a high guaranteed return.

The days of reasonable odds are long dead. Take the Rose Redux event. Used to be that you could buy a pack, and trade the item ya got for something else, or buy two and trade both items for a thing. Not anymore. With disparate odds, the common/unlucky man is screwed. Thanks OOO.

I'll probably not get to spend any more money on this game ever. A shame. I rather liked the look of these items too.

I wish OOO would tell us about what promo's they're thinking of doing.
I still love ArtixEnertainment, they're games aren't as good as others (But the best for players who can't download stuff), but they always tell you EVERYTHING about what they're working on, save for a few times they like to surprise us. Surprises are nice, but OOO does way too many surprises. If they gave us a sketch of what they were planning on how to make the cat tails look like, a lot would tell them to redo it. Then they could just keep on making cat tail sketchs until they get positive feedback from the forums, and then make it into a promo item.

The new itmes are cool, but I am not dropping money to get one of those boxdes when I'm most likely not going to get anything good. The wings were good, the unlucky man would still get a pair of wings, which he could trade for the wings he liked besides volcanic/prismatic/divine/shadow.

Here's how I think the new promo should have went down : You will defintly get either one crest or one crown, small chance of getting an aura instead of a crown/crest. Also make it defintly give two pieces of confetti, and have small chances of getting extra variant tickets.
But it's too late now.

4 boxes opened.

Three 1 Variant Tickets, and one 2 variant ticket.

My UVs? Fiend Low, Beast Medium, Pierce Low and Shock Medium.

I swear I'm never buying another "chance" promo again.
