Hey everybody I had an idea of making a spiral knights mod, like the way people make mods in minecraft. the problem is nobody has ever made a spiral knights mod and I have no idea how. imagen a way for people to create a new weapon or creature or even an entire different story line to the game we all love! [This is just an idea]
Who thinks it should be possible to make "Spiral Knights Mods"?
It was just an idea. But the game is still in development and the devs might make a single player version of the game and if they do then maybe it will be possible.
Against ToS,
"13. modify any files or use any game hacking/altering/cheating software or tools, including scripting or macroing software, or attempt to disassemble the game client and/or decipher the data transmissions between Spiral Knights' client and server. These activities will result in immediate termination of the Player's Account and may subject you to civil and/or criminal liability."

Single Player Spiral knights?
That doesnt make any sense at all...
Hey, Poke here! Boy have I got something to show you! The MMORPG Spiral Knights is now a Single Player RPG! Play through the Clockworks... alone. Walk through Haven... alone. This is all for the price of 1 facepalm! Yes, 1 facepalm!
I'd like to see how you would obtain ce for free when playing single player sk :P
Yeah the fact that you need real $$ to get CE, means that it you can technically be stealing from OOO.
Adventure together! ...Alone
Make friends! ...Alone
Fight together! ...Alone
Oh, well, at least Rhendon, Mecha, and Rescue Knights will never leave me!
...
Oh, wait, Rhendon leaves me? Aww...
Well the thing is, modding the files is perfectly possible to some extent. (ignoring the illegal implications stated in the Terms of Service)
You would not be able to create new objects and levels, because that is all managed by the server, but you could alter the animations of files, change textures, change audio, or even alter your entire GUI.
However these things are only "surface changes" and to mod the true content of the game, you'd need access to the server files, which OOO does not publicly distribute.
You could create "hacks" for the game by intercepting the communication between the server and client, which is also against the ToS, and I think OOO would be much more upset with this than with just regular texture altering.
So no, you can't really add new content to the game with modding due to the lack of game control your client has.
no mods in multiplayer games :3
but is it possible to make like, um, 'texture packs'???
TF2 WarioWare, among other TF2 mods, wants to have a word with you.
It was more like "no mods on MMOs without using a custom server"
You cant mod a game without having the actual source code >_> Minecraft and those other games allow you to do that, but in MMOs youwould have to basically access the dev's computers and take the files. You can alter the textures fine, but there's practically no code on the server side client, so you cant really accomplish anything other than swapping models, editing them, or changing textures.
And of course all of this is against the ToS and ToU so even if you could, if people found out there would be a bit of banning.
I'm all for it. I'd love to see the ability to add onto the game yourself added. I highly doubt that the devs would go for it though.
Dont know if it is possible at all, but what if they were to release a map maker that could be used and submitted to the test server, and anyone who had contributed (numerical value) dollars in the (period of time) would have access to the test server and could use the map maker and test other peoples levels.
If it was on the test server nobody would profit from cheap levels in the real game, and they would basically have access to free level designers whose content could be balanced and placed in game.
I'm with Sir-Didymus. If anyhting we could do that.
And especially with the slow release of any content at all, if we were allowed to mod the game we might actually have new content to play.
And eventually if it's good enough it gets added to the game. :D
*waits for an Egg Fleet 3-stage set with Eggman as the boss*
It would fragment the community too much and who knows what havoc it could wreck on the unstable servers :/
Against ToS, "13. modify any

Excuse me Gwenyvier, Does it say anything about Remaking the Art work or the Partical Effects?
I dont see that here.
No one is going to Disable or do anything TO the Actual game.
If anything they are going to make their own Textures and all that stuff.
Also if they Attempt to make a mod for MC from Spiral Knights and you think they might get in trouble then Tell them to ask.
I normally get a Email within 24 Hours but sometimes a week.
And if you think about it the Texture-pack will not be 100% like SK at all.
I Dare you to ask and see what they say, Not to be rude or anything.
Well I'd like a singleplayer sort of mod since I can't play this game anymore for who knows what reason.
wtf necro?
The only mods that could ever be implemented for this game are utility or graphics mods. Since it's an MMO you can't just go around adding in content mods.
Do you mean actual mods? or something more like an expansion...?
I mean, theres already Operation Crimson Hammer... why not add another expansion? maybe to shine some light on the other Crimson Order member(s) :3
One reason is because it is linked to the Steam Trading Market. If someone were to use mods to hack and stuff, and get crowns, SOMETHING would change.
-Thegreatpiggy's theory
I found a META-INF Folder just like minecraft so it's possible to use the same way as minecraft modding
It's called "Java".
It's also called "Good luck unobfuscating the code".
Try not to necro next time.
Not to mention in minecraft players have their own servers. That makes it moddable.
Even if OOO gave us permisson, all we could do would be retextures.
This suggestion is like saying "Why not make a crown-to-energy converter machine?"
Please move this to the correct section please. (suggestions)
Yes, nothing beyond texture mods is possible, its not like anyone would know how to do anything more then that >_> ...
Yeah, we will make our own Spiral knights, with blackjack and hookers.
looks like no one has proposed the idea of Music changes as well as texture changes.
Am I the only one who thinks Cave story music in Spiral knights would be interesting?
This thread is from 2013, and you brought it back
If you want new music just turn off the games music in the esc menu and play your own
Did we just get an ULTRA NECRO!?
Or Quadra Necro if you're a LoL player and WRONG
since grey havens took over the game is virtually on life support with a few updates and content packs here and there but mostly cosmetic items and minor patches... It would be amazing to see them give some support for mods by allowing editing in the TOS as long as it is not tied with cheating... and besides the TOS isn't going to stop real cheaters anyways. I'm actually in the process of learning JAVA for the express purpose of making mods/plugins for minecraft and "Other Games" ;P
Good grief. What a necro!
That being said, that will never happen. The only opportunity for modding SK will be if it finally dies and GH releases the source code...which is equally unlikely, as amazing as it would be. ~Z
No.
-Spiral knights is not an offline single player game like minecraft, and it is also against the ToU/ToS to alter the game files in any way.
