It's common knowledge that the Wild Hunting blade < Dread Vile. Could it be fix'd? I LOVE the Hunting Blade. But it seems I have to go with Dread for more productivity. ><
Wild Hunting vs. Dread Vile Striker
in my experiences so far with the HUNTING blade, I've noticed I deal out more damage on average than someone who uses the VILE striker. While running a few depths the other day I asked someone using the vile striker how much damage they were doing average hit in combo (not the last one, as it has more power), and got responses of 10-15 points less damage or more. I thought maybe it was weapon level (which I didn't ask about), but I had a level 6 hunting blade and I'm assuming it wasn't too large of level variation if they were only 10-15 points under. I wouldn't be surprised if the damage was reduced for the venomous versions of the serious as they do have chances of poison. It seems like basically the same amount of damage spread out. I will do a test soon since I'm close to crafting the vile striker, just o see what happens. However against beast types it seems to me the hunting series' boost deals out a significant larger amount of damage than the vile series' even with poison (seeing as that when you poison an enemy you usually don't stop attacking it to let the poison kill it). Overall the situation really decides the damage of your weapon. I easily do more damage than a vile striker on poisonous enemies as the resistance causes vile striker damage to lessen. Then against beasts, hunting blades will do more damage thanks to the damage boost. Final verdict would probabaly be based against jelly king though... Against the jelly king there are obvious benefits to using the venomous weapons, I'm sure that in other situations that will pop up in future parts of the game the hunting series will do better.
You should really keep in mind they implemented the gate creation process for situations such as these. Ex: Get more red and green minerals to start creating beast based depths. Currently that's what I'm aiming for. If you're in a party, ask everyone to try and get red and blue minerals. Everyone in the party shares minerals so if one of them gets green and you get red you just got both in one run. As time goes on the gates will favor different weapons of the game, the hunting series kind of had it's moment earlier on in release as beast depths were more common, but this game is based on the weapons so the deva will give weapons their moments, and the community creating gates will affect it too.
As I said, it depends on the situation in my opinion. I'm sure it is up for debate though.
even if it sucks I still think it's awesome and it deals enough damage to be a good weapon so I am still going to be using it.
MrGrey0317: Good to know it's viable. Just to make sure, you don't have attack-boosting gear like from the Wolver series, right?
I do but so did the person in comparison. I'll make a direct comparison in-game tonight to clear it up :P
If I did have it equipped and the other person didn't it goes back to the fact that you should be equipping for the situations to guarantee most effective gameplay right?
The difference is whether or not the WHB really does more damage than the DVS. If it's only stronger when boosted, then your effective setup may have been even more effective with a DVS instead.
The impression I got from the wiki is that poison doesn't actually damage monsters. It turns healing into damage, and lowers their attack and defense, but doesn't factor into damage calculations unless a healer's present.
If that's true the venomous weapons would be a lot better against gremlins, in which case when I conduct the test I'll have to do it against them and other monsters. Considering there would be a healer present vs the gremlins. Then I'll try against beasts, and slimes. I think I won't do a test against poisonous type due to the obvious difference but the fact that the hunting blade will do more damage will be counted as evidence supporting that's it's equal to or better than the vile striker.
Oh yeah just to be clear my test is going to consist of the hunting blade and vile striker, I don't have the final versions yet :P
First-hand information on 4☆ gear should still be useful. The 5☆ gear looks the same, except WHB gets an extra half-strength attack per swing according to the Wiki, so that might throw it off unless the WHB's normal attack is weaker to compensate.
It turns healing into damage
That's Curse. Poison just stops healing.
While you're at it make every item I like better than every comparable piece of equipment, too.
DA/GF are already the most overpowered equips in the game, sorry.
There's a simple reason why the Dread is a way better choice.
They're basically the same thing. One does bonus damage to one kind of enemy, the other does a status. However, you can easily get that bonus damage buff from another item, or a UV. You could even have a Dread venom with bonus beast damage. The bonus is so high it's wasted, since it can't get higher than max, and you already nearly reach that with wolver series equipment!
Poison according to the wiki;
- Stops healing
- Increases damage taken (decreases defence power)
- Decreases damage dealt (decreases attack power)
- Turns healing received into damage (yes, it isn't a myth)
What would you rather take? UV-like bonus damage, or a really nice chance to cause a nice status effect on hit?
I don't think any of us posted on this thread with the attitude that they should change the weapons to fit our playstyle Awesomest. I simply want to give the information on the weapons I use, so others aren't misled, unfortunately I haven't gotten around to taking down the info, right now my vile striker is at level 3 I think while my hunting blade is level 7-8 I think. I'm going to max them out to get even numbers, in case more heat on a certain weapon level changes data. I'll come back to his thread when that happens. Sorry for the wait.
DA/GF are already the most overpowered equips in the game, sorry.
I don't like DA/GF.
Hazel: Valid point.
Okay so here's my unofficial/brief review:
I played through all of tier 1 and went up against various monsters/ enemies. I equipped both the hunting blade and vile striker to do instant comparisons, and have no variance in armor boosts. I'll agree Tysta did bring up very valid points as: poison being a status ailment that does do many different things, and the high vs beast being a UV you can get into ANY crafted weapon. However there are somethings I have to say.
For one although the venomous series does cause poison, after playing through quite a bit of depths I have to admit the ratio of a a normal slash to a poison inducing one are extremely low for me, near 28 to 2 out of 30 slashes. Not to mention I kept thinking okay if it causes poison I will have already dealt enough damage they the healing butterfly or gremlin will cause them to die. To my surprise the monster/creature would live. As I grew accustomed to being let down I just wouldn't stop attacking;even if they got poisoned it wouldn't matter as my attacking would kill them off anyways. As nice as it is to get the damage bonus through their lowered defense from poison, it only added 3-4 hit points per swing and only 1 to the ghost slash... And this only happened nearly 2 times every 30 swings. At this point I thought to myself, the poison comes in randomly throughout my combo, it's really low chance of happening and it's not going to cause significant damage to the point where I can cut my combo short 2 swings or more to move onto the next enemy in order to speed up the process of running through a depth. After that I pretty much was sold on how the damage works for poison and their defense/ attack dropping. I then put some focus onto the the fact Tysta said damage during poison from healing isn't a myth. I didn't observe damage points being shown when the enemies were supposed to be healed by healing monsters, although there is a high chance it's not being shown but still occurring- it's not dealing enough damage to kill while the monsters are poisoned. Essentially the poison effect sort of sells the idea that it really does a number on the opposing force but personally I feel it's misleading to a small degree due to the fact that unless it's a boss of a sort, it really doesn't do enough damage for what it sounds like it should be (if it's as great as Tysta says, why is the variable amount of damage so minuscule and why doesn't it happen more consistently?).
The next observation I made was that both my weapons of different levels dealt the exact same damage! That is aside from damaging beasts and poisonous monsters (I think poisonous, can't remember exactly). This really makes very little sense to me since one is higher level (or higher amount of heat w/e). If someone can explain that to me it would be appreciated greatly.
As for the hunting blade bonus here's what I realized: the amount of beast monsters I encountered throughout basically every depth (because of elemental lizards) is much more consistent vs the random poison status occurrence. Not only are these monsters of BEAST TYPE popping up more often, the added damage I did to them was in the 6-8 then 2-3 for the ghost (something like that because I don't remember the number exactly right this second but close to this). The total being 8-11 per swing! The amount of times you run into beast types is random, but it happens a lot more often throughout depths, so in a sense the hunting blade is better than the vile striker (I assume this info applies to the final versions of said items also) to a certain degree.
My final opinion for now is that the poisonous series is best for enemies with the ability to heal and massive amounts of defense/ damage capabilities as the poison would lower the attack by a small percentage that would bring greater numbers decreased if damage given was already high, then if they have healing powers I noticed poison FOR SURE halts healing, and if a boss can't heal you can finish them off more quickly. However aside from that very specific situation the hunting series strikers will give you more 'bang for your buck" as they will have their boost take effect far more often.
My suggestion: get both, when you aren't fighting a type of boss as I described, roll with the hunting blade. If you know you're going to go against a monstrous boss as I explained, switch to the vile strikers at the vendor and be prepared for the boss ahead of time.
As I said, depending on the situation one will be more efficient than the other.
Just like to point out that currently poison gives a attack&defense de-buff and prevent healing, it does not turn heals into damages any more.
Also curse inflects dmg if the cursed mob uses a attack that's been marked by the effect...... which you can't tell till the mob gets dmg before it attacks.
Does the charge attack for vile at least warrant poisoning?
Kind of stupid but no it does not guartantee poison if you charge it :/
Thanks a ton for clarifying! I was fairly confused on this :P
While you're at it make every item I like better than every comparable piece of equipment, too.
