The other day, I was strolling around Lockdown as Guardian with an Acheron Charge lined up as my initial strike. I noticed a lot of Strikers dashing into my teammates on CPs to quickly stage an attack, so I usually release a charge early for them to dash into. One of the high-damage Skolver Strikers on the other team began to complain about the charge being annoying and wanted me to stop after consistently dashing into my Acheron charge swipes. I stopped after that, since some players find certain weapons more annoying than others might, but an pre-battle Acheron charge didn't strike me as particularly annoying, since I was only using it at the start of a battle. Personally, the only weapon I found slightly annoying in Lockdown are Polaris bullets, if used well. As they tend to be slow, one of the ways they can be used is to create a minature wall of bullets with knockback, which wouldn't be as annoying if not for the shock status, as they can block up narrow passages. Regarding other weapons, Mist bombers usually walk away after taking a CP and are vulnerable while moving to another CP, and they're less dangerous at a distance, while RSS feels more like a gun and sword, due to their ranged projectile damage and the potential damage from strolling into the middle of one, if players are distracted enough.
Besides Polaris, nothing else seems to be as annoying for me, and still, sometimes you could even walk up to Polaris users if they don't add a spread to their fire with enemies close by. What do you guys think? Which weapons are the most annoying for you in LD? :s
Which Lockdown weapons do you find the most annoying?
It used to be GF, but then I learned to keep my range as a gunner (strange problem, I know, but I have a strange playstyle). Now it's... VT I guess, although even that I know how to counter if it's on a bomber. I'm pretty good at dodging Polaris shots. That thing was one of my first weapons, and I feel like I know how to use it and counter it rather well. Lockdown has kinda dulled my senses, I no longer find anything really annoying since I've pretty much seen all of it.
GF makes me laugh. I just step back and watch the RSS I laid skewer that sucker.
No, what annoys me is the Final Flourish and BTB. My brother says that the mega range first swing, in real life, would not snap them. My brother is dead wrong.
EDIT: Change that to Polaris. Can't stand the thing.
@Poke
Shadow Max? :O
Wouldn't it be cheaper to get two heart penta pendants and trink slots? It might help out more than the Shadow Max, idk
@Duke
Yeah, Polaris shots are pretty easy to dodge in the open, but kinda harder to dodge in corridors lol, I guess you could try taking another route/corridor to cut them off, if possible.
I suggest Valiance or Argent/Sent for VT bombers,or just avoid them completely if you can't deal with them yet like me.
@Doctor
If it was a FF or BTB, it would probably snap against a larger sword like Sealed swords. If the FF or BTB was flickering and bouncing around though, id would probably bend against another sword like a rapier would, and eventually snap :( For toothpick users, maybe you could get a heavy sword and try swinging where they dash next?
Trinkets? I really don't use those, as I've been taking a break after my obsession with LD. I'm going to startup again tomorrow or the next day with LD, and I might use a health trinket. Dem GFs can't touch meh now!
Hands down, any gun. As a guardian, I can't do anything about them. Sure, it usually takes them a minute to kill me, but they *will* eventually do so if they keep their distance. Retaliation is a joke since I'm slow and have a gun debuff to begin with. Nor does it help how half the time an enemy striker shows up 10 seconds later and I have to deal with the gunner messing up my counterattacks. D:
As for brandish charges, you shoulda just kept it up until he got the message to stop running straight into them. One of the most terrifying people to run into are those who can lead brandish charges. Borders on impossible to dodge, and never fails to obliterate my shield.
@Poke Lol you could use two 3* ones if you're short on crowns, it still works pretty decently for me
@Guy Gotta agree with the guns issue, it helps if you have a Valiance or Polaris to fire a spread with, but counter-attacking is pretty challenging, unless they have a sword to dash in on you with. I judge when to use a brandish charge by trying to see where and when an enemy is approaching, and I usually try to land it in the middle of the lane to have a better chance of hitting them. So yeah, my charges would fail pretty horribly if I'm distracted by a recon who can slip past an opening which I choose to guard, or if the enemy sticks to the side of a corridor, and especially if they move erratically to their advantage, i.e. getting closer and into a better position while dodging, such as weaving through, flanking and halting sometimes. I'm sure the same could apply when fighting the brandish guys you mentioned, the principles are pretty similar all round
@Duke(below) Clearly, Knights are made of either gelatin or tofu, and therefore the foil wouldn't snap as you slash with it. I'd go with the armor being chocolate as well.
Ah, that explains everything! Especially the pain from a GF, seeing how we're practically half-made from slime.
Clearly, Knights are made of either gelatin or tofu, and therefor the foil wouldn't snap as you slash with it. I'd go with the armor being chocolate as well.
As a gunner I usually tend to be able to avoid polaris shots. Sadly that doesn't help out much when they are blocking a whole road to the CP like Furnace.
That said the one annoying weapon I hate with a deep passion are toothpicks. Bloody 2/3 hits powerhouses (doesn't help the fact that all wolver coats give damage bonus instead of ASI bonus).
People will obviously say the OP hammer is the most annoying, but I got my blackhawk to deal with such heavy swords.
@Sgtbrown Did you mean all Skolver/Snarby coats that give damage bonus? Yeah, toothpicks can be troublesome when they start launching invisible shockwaves with their third hit. I guess you could shock/freeze them with alchemers or pelt them with a Magnus, if they're far enough and going after you. Might a Driver work better against heavy swords? GF users tend to get rooted on the spot more, so maybe you could deal more damage that way? Hammer doesn't seem that bad to me, I see enough dashes as it is already with lag, one or two extra won't make much of a difference
When they are dashing around, doing the flourish first swing dance, nothing short of mist bombs can save you. If that player have status max UVs on their armor, forget it.
I find the Blackhawk especially useful for its combo-stopping power; toothpicks are too fast to get a significant change outta that, but heavy swords are (usually) slow enough for me to make full use of the Blackhawk's stopping power. Also pretty useful at keeping constant damage on a guardian shield.
As for all wolver coats when I said that I meant by, we gunners only get a damage armor set until 5*, while skolver clones had that since 2*. Besides I'm pretty sure Strikers are supposed to hit fast (not necessarily hard), so ASI should've been the deal. It would also make Vog/Snarby a good set to look forward to invest to get the full power outta swords.
Then again that's just my 2 cents and besides I'm pretty sure a horde of skolver clones would come rushing down the thread bashing me with their toothpicks of total disagreement if I ever continued on with this. *shrugs*
That said I don't have as much of an hate with toothpickers as before since I "invested" on a Cyclops Cap. Man for how pathetic it may be/look in T3 LD, it helps a heck of a lot for those who still haven't reached 5*.
@Infidel
Usually, I swipe hammer first hits across where they're likely to waltz in next, the idea is to remember to hit where they run, which I only remember after 1 or 2 warm up matches lol. Works pretty well for me though, although you'll have to adjust your timing if they have different ASI, e.g. max or med. If they see you shielding as Guardian, they'll usually either focus on damaging more with their toothpicks or executing a combo with a heavy sword. If the former, swinging where they run becomes easier, since they're more focused on damage. If the latter, step back and launch your own combo after theirs lol
@Sgtbrown
I've seen good gunners take on groups of Skolvers in LD, they usually bait them away from CPs whle constantly circling and firing. They seem better suited to distracting than straight-out damage dealing, while bombers tend to be better for laying trap attacks and holding areas. And i guess a lot of Strikers get enough speed from their toothpicks, although they do switch over to GFs if they want to hit hard. Although I agree with ASI benefitting Strikers, a Vog set can go well with heavy sword first swings for damage support, from personal experience. Not that I'm a Skolver Striker, heck, i currently use Guardian so I can focus on attacking lol
Well you should have just kept doing the charge spam.Teach them to do other tactics then rush the point and then die.Finally, the weapon i hate the most is Polaris because it blocks paths and it has KB and shock!
I. Hate. Sun shards. I can't stand people who spam sun shards. When fighting a group of people, it is very difficult to pay attention to anything else. I have to give anyone who is using sun shards my full attention if I don't want to die. But giving them my full attention will let others kill me. I would seriously rather fight two skolver strikers instead of one skolver striker and one sun shard user. I have learned to avoid and counter GF's and FF's fairly well, and I can dodge sun shards.... but again, I must give my full attention to dodge the sun shards. I am thinking of investing in a Supernpova, that might help on taking care of them...
As a bomber guardian, I can tell you that I laugh at Supernovas; the only reason Polaris is threatening is the shock.
As for OP, I'm mostly annoyed by blitz needle charges coming from the south and Polaris. I do think it was pretty gullible of you to stop acheron charging when that player told you he was annoyed by it; it meant your tactic was effective.
@TheIhawk I wasn't really spamming it as such, only as an initial attack, but yeah, that is a good tactic to learn. Lol charge spam would be so deliberately trolly :O
Polaris because it blocks paths and it has KB and shock!
Agree, I'd say shock, blockage and KB in order of annoyance for me. Gah that shock.....
@Serell If I were you, I'd focus on taking out the skolver striker while moving around/cloaking in hope that it'll lower the accuracy of the enemy bomber, since the striker could potentially do more damage, while moving away from the bomber to lure the striker towards me. Striker seems pretty good for dealing with them, less so with Guardian, and even less with Recon, which I recall you use, if my memory serves correctly. Yeah, I'd suggest a Polaris as well, the shock is real valuable, and could help out in a group situation.
@Zeddy Polaris bullets would be somewhat decent without shock, but possibly outshone by Valiance; long range, low speed, decent knockback. I definitely agree, Shock makes Polaris a lot deadlier than without it. Blitz charges can be pretty painful from what I've seen, I've hardly seen them used far from other enemy players though. They're more like artillery than anything else lol. As for stopping the Acheron charges, I guess I was being nice, although now that I come to think of it, his damage probably would be fine, being in the 10k+ range. Although I found it a bit strange that a FF/GF/trinked Skolver Striker would complain about an Acheron, I thought the former was criticised more, judging from various forum threads. While I'm fine with his LD playstyle along with all the others, he would probably have found it less annoying if he wasn't charging into me all the time :(

Sun shards isn't a problem unless you dash around a lot. With keyboard controls, it's very easy to dodge and gun down the user from a safe distance. The Polaris is really an excellent gun for lockdown, but that doesn't make it annoying... And I've seen plenty of strikers dash around the first volley to kill the user with a well placed sword swing. Those slow bullets are a weakness.
As a guardian, I'd have to say that my biggest problem is with asi or ctr: very high heavy class swords. I've been hit by gran faust charges in less time than it takes for me to even see that my opponent is charging. That breaks the "fair chance to react" principle of pvp (especially against multiple opponents who have my guardian self wedged in)... and given the duration of the curse status, it's often more efficient to die than to wait for the effect to wear off. Even with a divine helm, curse lasts far longer than other status effects.
Not that the gran faust isn't hard to dodge in a 1v1. I just don't like being cursed from out of nowhere. Mercifully, there are very few players who can pull this off...
Nubskills: Charge spam would be so deliberately trolly :O
yes troll the clones TROOOOOOLL THE CLONES
Ah, I wish stepping into the center of RSS killed targets... REMOVE THE INVINCIFRAMES! Dark Ret wants to not suck anymore!
From watching, I took note that players love to spray enemies with whatever they have, but once in a Player vs. Player environment, those countless attacks become known as "spam." Is that not what you Knights do best? I, myself, see Flourish and Polaris "spamming" outside of the Arena (hating Flourish and such even more), so I'd say that you Knights actually have it good compared to the countless minions being slaughtered. As a spectator, I love seeing Knights beating eachother up for a change, but I see much Polaris, Barbarous Thorn Blade, Final Flourish, Radiant Sun Shards, Sentenza, Gran Faust, and Voltaic Tempests being used out there, being considered "spam." Are they overpowered? Well, "nerfing" could do us much, you know, being weaker and all. I wonder if Devilites would make the Lockdown battles any different. Actually, I'd rather keep them safe...
Well Sentenza bullets aren't the best in damage when you look at other guns like drivers or a callahan. Invincibility frames don't help in that regard either.
That said its true power lies in being able to stop enemies from using their swords, guns and eventually charge their bombs.
And like I said above, you can deal constant damage to a shield with it since shields (not to my experience) don't have invincibility frames, so that's a plus when you're a recon and you're up against a guardian.
@Nubskills
Much easier said than done since most of those using the "flourish dance" tactic will NOT be moving in a same direction when he/she sees me using a hammer. Also if that player have some ASI UV on the flourish/btb bringing down the shield is like signing my death warrant due to getting constantly interrupted.And in a hammer vs flourish duel (with same ASI level) flourish will win easily in the game of "first swing+shield".And if their GF have ASI too then it is all too easy for the player to execute a full combo and get hits successfully.
The best option for me as a guardian is to dodge in a very unpredictable pattern while charging up my brandish. Then hug a corner of the wall and wait for my target to close in. It works quite well as long as he/she doesn't pull out a gun.
Back on topic, I find the flourish/btb first swing to be the most annoying thing in LD.
I hate strikers in general, a single slash can remove my cloak, but they can keep running? Balance!
Wolvers. They ruin balance by being easily the most used armor in the game. OP as heck.
Fencing swords. Who needs skill when you just fly around everywhere; you're guaranteed to hit someone.
Fausts, DA, and that Rocket Hammer. Please, tell me more about how skilled you are for using a two-hit-kill sword. The range on the Hammer is ridiculous. I feel that these huge swords and the others in-game should be limited to Guardians. You want to run around at lightning speed while holding swords that big? Logic!
Polaris. Incredibly outrageous knockback paired with shock. This gun needs the balance that some players have been asking for for ages ('for for' always bugs me, but I'm too lazy to reword it). Disgrace to the band that it shares its name with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_SYFx92-QM
Put everything just mentioned together in a single loadout and I'll hate you. However, the good thing about strikers is that they run through everything. Spikes? Yup. Freeze pits and shock pits? Those too. Even my shock bombs. And then my team of strikers criticizes me for my low damage, even though what I do is great support. Pfft, elitist scum. Give them the nerf they need, OOO!
@Corneykrab
You want to run around at lightning speed while holding swords that big? Logic!
First of all there are no weight factor when using a sword,the size is just for cosmetics. So yeah strikers can use them big swinging behemoths and still defy logic of this type.
The way fencing sword is used in this game is more obviously wrong. I believe Doctorspacebar and Tsubasa have already explained it.
Guardian and recon needs a buff however.
Most annoying? Voltaic Tempest.
Most deadly? Gran Faust, or any 5* alchemer in the hands of a master gunner.
@Infidelslayer
Definitely much easier said than done, also, players tend to have varying styles and proficiency, so that one tactic won't work for all. The ASI VHigh UVs would interrupt and mess up prediction times for sure, but I disagree with you on the hammer vs flourish example. As a snarby Guardian, I usually try to use hammer first hits to bat away Strikers, plus a shield could block the first hit of a flourish allowing me to counterattack. It's currently my anti-Striker build, and has worked pretty well so far for that purpose for me.
@Coneykrab
And then my team of strikers criticizes me for my low damage, even though what I do is great support.
Judging by damage ratios usually show what type of playstyle a player is using. With different plastyles, lag, ping, tactics etc. judging proficiency by damage is extremely unreliable.
Note that skill isn't the only factor when it comes to winning a Lockdown match, or at least contributing towards the team in a match. While the shock bombs you use do not take much skill to use, as they have large range and can be constantly maintained over long periods of time, they do require planning and quick thinking as to not get caught vulnerable by enemies, as they have a charge and fuse time.
Definately (idk if I spelled this right) the OCH Hammers
There are skilled strikers and skilled recons. You however are neither.

Having just played a few games with Thrillhaus, I'm proud to present your typical LD Wolver.
Thrillhaus here uses a fencing sword, a faust, and to change things up, a shadow alch! His strategy consists of running and slashing randomly (because fencing swords hit things no matter what), calling himself pro while criticizing others who do low damage, and denying any lack of balance.
This is where TF2 came into discussion. Consider Strikers to be an OP combo of the Scout's speed and the Heavy's damage, whereas the Recon is a combination of the Spy's cloak and the Sniper's defense, with a varying third class depending on the individual's strategy. Direct damage is what strikers deal, whereas recons can be supports. Meaning that we can do great things, but we can't do them alone. For instance, my shock bombs work great as long as I have mild cover (and teammates who understand that attacking shocked enemies is a very good idea). You try staying alive as a lone Sniper in TF2; you need offensive classes to do so, but they can really benefit from your watchful eye. (Also, I don't complain about the OPness about any classes in TF2. They work hard to ensure balance.)
Thrillhaus denies that wolvers are OP, claiming that the fact that a good percentage of people using wolver coats (and extremely similar combinations of weapons) in LD does not show any signs of this. He also attacks me for my UVs, claiming that I expect them to make me good. (Fire resist on my Divine Veil and elem on my Azure armor don't help. Defenses don't really help in LD. Pokenuevo: "Dat GF:...-I died in 2 swings with a Divine Veil and Valkyrie Mail on...". CTR on my Umbra Driver and Levi Blade; Construct DMG bonus on my Voltaic Tempest. I don't charge the first two weapons, and while we're technically robots, it doesn't help here). However, I'll let his high shock UVs slide. :)
It should be noted that a vast majority of people who defend wolvers, fencing swords, fausts, etc. use them themselves. Once strong points are made, they generally just resort to personal attacks and strong usage of the word 'noob'. You're not OP, everything else is just UP, right? Maybe, if the situation was that the game is too hard while using every other set. However, the majority of the game is too easy, according to most players.
Also, I'm not whining and saying "QQ y i no win". My set isn't completely geared towards LD, and it's a decently hard set to play with in this game mode. I'm playing LD for a weapon I want, though I may be able to 'train' in LD.
Please provide a screenshot of me calling myself "pro" (pros don't exist in a game that does not have paid events) or criticizing someone's damage. I usually don't speak in random LD unless someone is being an idiot with ill-conceived and/or inflammatory remarks, ie; you.
Exact quote of what I said was:
"brb not going to criticize your damage
brb get more caps"
Which was a jibe at your above posted remark of "...then my team of strikers criticizes me for my low damage, even though what I do is great (watchoutbadasshere.jpeg) support." Since apparently a grand total of 1 capture is great support.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony <---some reading material for you :)
I didn't argue whether or not wolver gear is OP either. What I did was laugh at your in-game statement that "wolver gear is OP because everyone uses it" when really, anyone with a basic understanding of causality would think to say "everyone uses wolver gear because it is OP". That said I can name dozens of good players who are able to put up great performances wearing nothing but proto, thus invalidating your presumption that the gear is what makes the player.
Now to set straight your factual errors. Strikers are not in fact able to fly over spikes or freeze pits, unless the spikes/frost are down obviously. Any class can move over your voltaic tempest with the right resistances. No weapon is a two-hit kill, charge attacks notwithstanding, unless against a striker with no heart pendants.
Oh and of course I have UVs. I even said so in one of the matches, since it seemed from your condescension that you genuinely believed the 4* gear I was using for the lulz was the extent of my equipment. I wasn't using my UVs for the most part though, except when I felt you might appreciate having a striker glide over voltaic tempest since you apparently love that so much ;)
Free tip: Don't want trouble? Don't start trouble. I don't go into TF2 servers to ruin everyone's time by calling everyone who uses a spy cheap/unskilled because they keep killing me while I'm trying to snipe. Since I wouldn't even have the experience to know what I was talking about, I'd just be talking out my ass, which is what you're doing here.
I don't have any quotes from you, but it's ironic that you brought up irony. By "Not bringing up my damage", you pointed it out in a sarcastic matter (and you on at least one occasion brought up that you were being sarcastic), and you definitely did point it out a round or two before saying that. You also pointed out my low caps...
My argument that probably sparked your arguments was the one about wolver gear, and the overly-typical striker loadouts that I had seen. I think I was also rolling my eyes at someone else who was bragging about how 'undeniably pro' they were, using a similar loadout. While I had accidentally said that once, yes, I had also said on multiple occasions that "the fact that the majority of people in LD use Wolver makes it undeniably OP" (Or something along those lines). Cause and effect for you right here. Wolver Gear is OP. Tons of players use Wolver gear. They use it because it's OP. If it were balanced, they'd be used as evenly as all of the other lines of armor.
I don't assume that gear makes the player, it doesn't always. A friend and I did a proto run of missions, we got to the RJP. However, OP weapons/loadouts can allow a player to fall back on them as opposed to skill, taking advantage of obnoxiously large bonuses, be they damage, range, knockback, speed, etc.
I didn't say that strikers can fly over those things without causing self-harm. Many run through those things and get screwed because of it. I get two-hit-killed by fausts.
I never said that your 4* equips were all you had, nor did I pay them any heed at all. I made no mention of them. You were the one who was being condescending, implying that I couldn't play the common striker loadout that I hate so much if I tried, and that my loadout made me a complete failure.
We all have bad rounds, I was doing abnormally horrible during that 'round of rounds'.

I didn't save a screenshot of me getting at least 7 caps in a round. :)
EDIT: I also said something about not getting a better LD-specific loadout (or, in other words, the same loadout as 100+ other people), because I won't be playing LD once I get enough Krogmo Coins. You then told me to 'butt out' of these OP weapon/armor issues, since they wouldn't be a concern to me once I'm done with LD. You acknowledged that said items aren't exactly balanced. :)
By "Not bringing up my damage", you pointed it out in a sarcastic matter
Actually I wasn't being sarcastic in that instance. I'm well aware that not every role on a balanced team revolves around dealing damage. My jibe was at the fact that you didn't really have many other redeeming qualities to make up for the low damage. Standing in your spawn and shooting umbra is not "great support" as you describe yourself. Of course, there's nothing wrong with being very good at the game. We were all newbies at some point. What I have a problem with is people who aren't very good, but expect everything to be changed around them, instead of shutting up and getting better like the rest of us.
"...the fact that the majority of people in LD use Wolver makes it undeniably OP" is retrocausality. "Tons of players use Wolver gear. They use it because it's OP." is the right way around. Do you see the difference?
"I didn't say that strikers can fly over those things without causing self-harm."
RE: (Post #27) "However, the good thing about strikers is that they run through everything. Spikes? Yup. Freeze pits and shock pits? Those too."
"...implying that I couldn't play the common striker loadout that I hate so much if I tried". That wasn't wasn't an implication, it was an outright statement. If you're going to accuse people of being unskilled because they play a particular class, then the onus is on you to show that someone with little experience can do just as well as anyone else.
"You then told me to 'butt out' of these OP weapon/armor issues, since they wouldn't be a concern to me once I'm done with LD. You acknowledged that said items aren't exactly balanced." These two statements have no inferential link between them. Saying that you have neither the valid experience or reasons to be lobbying for nerfs that will affect the experience of many people except you has nothing to do with admitting there is a balance issue.
That said, I do believe there are indeed balance issues, though not so much with gear as with recons being a generally less effective class. My opinions as well as suggestions on that matter can be found in this thread: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/54879
""...the fact that the majority of people in LD use Wolver makes it undeniably OP" is retrocausality. "Tons of players use Wolver gear. They use it because it's OP." is the right way around. Do you see the difference?" You missed what I was saying. "Wolver Gear is OP. Tons of players use Wolver gear. They use it because it's OP. If it were balanced, they'd be used as evenly as all of the other lines of armor." I don't see how it's retrocausality. Many people use it, and since there should hypothetically be a close equilibrium of every armor set/piece. However there isn't, Wolver appears more than most other sets. Therefore, it's OP.
""I didn't say that strikers can fly over those things without causing self-harm."
RE: (Post #27) "However, the good thing about strikers is that they run through everything. Spikes? Yup. Freeze pits and shock pits? Those too."" If I'm complaining about strikers, why would I call such an ability a 'good thing'? Try running through an active spike/freeze/shock trap. You'll get the result that I considered to be a good thing.
""...implying that I couldn't play the common striker loadout that I hate so much if I tried". That wasn't wasn't an implication, it was an outright statement. If you're going to accuse people of being unskilled because they play a particular class, then the onus is on you to show that someone with little experience can do just as well as anyone else." That's an odd statement. It's slightly rude, and definitely incorrectly worded. You told me that I COULDN'T do anything right as a Striker with said loadout. I didn't mean that all strikers who use that loadout are completely without skill, but that they have a lot to fall back on. Speaking of rude, remember when you referred to me as dead weight? :)
""You then told me to 'butt out' of these OP weapon/armor issues, since they wouldn't be a concern to me once I'm done with LD. You acknowledged that said items aren't exactly balanced." These two statements have no inferential link between them. Saying that you have neither the valid experience or reasons to be lobbying for nerfs that will affect the experience of many people except you has nothing to do with admitting there is a balance issue." They do. Rather than using arguments that combat a balance issue, you ignore it by telling me to 'butt out'. I'm not going to be playing LD forever, so I shouldn't be concerned with its balance problems, right? Things should stay the way they are, what do I care?
In regards to buffs or debuffs, I feel that a big issue that needs to be addressed with the classes is the loss of special abilities. Either recons should not lose their cloaking ability when hit while cloaked, or strikers should lose theirs if hit while running.
@Thrill: I do believe there actually is a balance issue- who in their right mind uses full Royal Jelly, unless it's their only 5* gear? Ideally there would be a reason to use the Royal Jelly Mail and Royal Jelly Crown. Now, maybe DEFENSE might not be the thing- Spiral Knights is a game where you're meant to dodge, after all, and we're keeping both PvE and Lockdown in mind here. But perhaps the invincibility frames could play a role?
Suppose invincibility frames were removed, or at least were shorter to admit a decent amount of hits. Then suppose they were RE-ADDED to "Defensive" armors like these, but only for specific damage types. For example, Normal damage invinciframes would be given to Azure Guardian armor, as it is mainly a Normal defense armor. Piercing invinciframes would be given to Royal Jelly (and possibly Ice Queen, I mean, it IS a SL armor), Elemental would be given to Grey Feather, and Shadow would be given to Skelly and Almirian Crusader. Plate, being the most penalized armor in the game, would get ALL Damage type Invinciframes, meaning slow, heavy weapons would work best on it. (Funny- that's just what Plate would do in real life!) See someone spamming that DR? Pull out a gun, or break out the Skelly. Got a lot of Blitz Needles on the other team? Laugh at them in your Royal Jelly- but beware, someone might pull out a Pepperbox! (Split damage weapons would be affected by either type of invinciframes- Royal Jelly and Grey Feather would both work against the RSS.) Another thing that could be added to the Plate lines, specifically, is Knockback resistance; you don't get pushed around so easily when you're wearing a huge metal suit.
How about those Damage vs. (Type) armors? Pretty useless, right? Not anymore, if my ideas are implemented. I don't feel like linking the dang thing, I've searched my browsing history and still haven't found it. But I remember my suggestion (or, well, my adaptation of someone else's suggestion) well- adding a Monster type to every armor besides Cobalt, and allowing the VS. Type bonuses to stack 8 times (a full stack of 8 would be called "Maximum +2!") provided the bonuses were ONLY Vs. Monster Type. So that CIV with Undead High would get the same damage as a Striker in Skolver against someone in full Dread Skelly, and half that against someone with half Dread Skelly. And so on, and so forth. This would be a blessing for the WHB, if the above suggestion for Defensive armors was implemented; Skolvers beware! Of course, to make this more viable, 5* armors would be given a High bonus vs. Type, except in the case of Arcane Salamander, which would get Med vs. Beast and Med vs. Slime. (I think that's fine; it's only receivable from Shadow Lair FSC, after all.) Also, Divine Mantle would be given its partner's Fiend bonus.
@Doctorspacebar
Agreed about invincibility frame to be restricted to Defensive armors. It will at least make it a bit more useful.
Now I would love to see someone freezing a skolver and slamming it with a charged Sudaruska in LD.If I remember my last victim of freeze+ Suda charge in LD was Blueflood...
I guess it will never happen.....
I suggested giving plate (or "defensive" armors) invincibility frames while the rest are removed in another thread.
No one said anything.
I suggested giving only plate (and "defensive" armors) invincibility frames in a second thread.
No one said anything.
Doctorspacebar suggested essentially what I was saying.
Someone listened.
I feel unloved.
I remember seeing a similar suggestion a while back, so to repeat my feedback: the proposed outline would create an incredibly arcane and subtle system with a substantial amount of per-item programming needed. It's weird- and not player friendly- to have core game mechanics like invincibility frames change depending on which of two similar armors you're wearing.
That's especially true in a game like SK, where the devs don't like to release solid numbers or exact timing info when an item is subjected to a bonus/ penalty. Personally, I'd rather see devs spend the time creating new levels and content than on a vast item rebalancing as proposed. There will always be gear that's favored in lockdown or not, but that's not imbalanced. Do people complain about the inability to use shadow weapons in Fsc? Or do they just switch gear to adapt to the situation?
I dont use health trinks...
On topic i said mine was polaris but its tied with Hammers because with AA the jump will almost always hit
The Silent nightblade is a unusual weapon for Lockdown, but it annoys the hell out of me, as a recon thingy, I arm myself with a Firecracker, autogun, and a nightblade, the SN's little brother. The SN always somehow finds its way into my knights little body, just when im about to attack the user, I charge a firecracker, place it next to him, and he stabs me with that blade.
ITS SO F***IN ANNOYING
@Dreathuxy
Just some advice, you don't have to place the bomb next to him to deal damage, you could try to hit him with the edge of the bomb, or bait them into running into your bomb, which can work pretty well from what i've seen of nitro/dbb users. Also, I wouldn't suggest using a 1*(one star) bomb in Tier 3(4* and 5*), you might be better off with a Sun Shards bomb instead. Another tip is to try and get all your equipment up to the max star level for that tier, instead of one or two pieces of equipment with star levels exceeding the current tier. For example, this would mean having full 1* gear for tier 1, full 3* gear for tier 2, and full 5* gear for tier 3. Having, let's say, one 4* gear and the rest at 3* or under would still place you in tier 3. It's best to keep equipment levels consistent in Lockdown.
Thrillhaus is the classic example of the guy who spends way too much time in front of the computer. He, along with a bunch of other "L33t" players makes one wonder: "do they ever do anything else besides play SK?" Get a life people, seriously lol.

I enjoy how demonicsothe actually took the time to write a comeback. Makes me feel special <3. Also, he has more posts than me in the forums, does he do anything else? O_o Geez go outside for once and play, kiddo :)
I've come to find hammer seems to annoy others as much as I'm annoyed by toothpicks...
Course in t2... it's hammer, toothpick, pulsar-line clone wars... with the occasional brandish/alchemer
