Vitapods in the part ylobby

So I just entered a depth 8 party lobby.

One +8 vitapod, and one +2 vitapod.

I'm thinking back to my run from Haven to Moorcroft. On every level of depth n, I saw one +n vitapod, and sometimes additional ones behind an energy gate.

So why two pods in a party lobby? You had the old system, but now? If you have 4 people playing, what's kinda expected?

How does a +8, +7, +6, and +5 vitapod sound? Too much health to start?

At +8 and +2, thre's a slight encouragement to solo -- the second person doesn't get much. At the very least, +8, +4, +1, and +1.

But as you'll be getting one more per level, or so it looks so far, that'll be quickly upgraded. So why not just start with the upgrade?

If the design invariant is: "One pod per level, players are expected to be declining slightly below the current depth in max health as the party gets bigger", then why not start the party that way?

I think it's more to

I think it's more to encourage people to give the best vitapods to the sword+shield type players.

If everyone in the party were meant to be basically guaranteed to have the best vitapod possible on every floor, then there wouldn't be much point in the vitapod system anyway and they would just give people more max health automatically.

Except everybody is forced to

Except everybody is forced to be a sword player.

Guns are simply no real threat now, they are just helpful tool you shoot switches with or hope you can kill those gunpups that are grossly op'ed now.

Excuse me?

I do all my runs with Sheloba. She freezes monsters with her Cryotech MKII while I smash them to bits. I'd say guns are great. Maybe not the greatest at pulverizing monsters, but the status effects are an awesome help. And gun pups still take only about two charged shots if your gun's the right stars/level. You can even break gear/trinkets that let you charge faster.

Oh and ever tried hitting a frozen monster with a Firotech? It does more damage ;) Guns are great if you know how to use them to their maximum effect.

edit: another thread succesfully derailed xD

guns are great now for what they where meant

now guns have the meaning of what they supposed to have: assistance weapons. Now, you use guns for their status effects, and not as main damagers (but i would agree with one or 2 weapons more focused in damage, like the magnus, so people that really want to make the gun his/her main can do so). Also, bombs now are apparently not good, unless you are in a group, and can make so one lures the mosters, and the other puts the bombs...this is a piece of mi mind, though

But ... Using guns as

But ...

Using guns as assistance weapons, for their status effect?

If that is, as you claim, the intent, then what is the first star level where your guns get that ability?

What are the tier-1 people supposed to do with their gun slot? Put in a bomb?

So the high-end guns are useful, not because they do damage, but because they inflict status. Fine. What about the low-end guns?

And why not have swords that inflict status? One sword is described as having a searing blade, if I recall correctly; why not an icy blade, or an electrical generator that shocks the target, etc.?

If swords can inflict status and damage at the high end, then a gun is just a distant sword. Right?

So what's the balance? Making guns weak enough that you just use your sword to save time? Making guns stronger so you just keep everything at range? Changing the levels so that guns are less effective?

Very much off topic, but I think guns should be strong enough to be effective, but useless for crowd control; swords should be great for crowds.

Right now, it basically seems like one person will have the best, one person will be one step below that, one person will be a second step down, and the last person will be three steps down. But you get to "decide" who gets which (or maybe it's just the people I've played with where the fastest gets it and no one bothers to talk.)

Pods

I agree that there should be 4 vitapods in the lobby, now that the system has changed.

But I've always seen pods with equal numbers in the lobby until now.

what they are supposed todo

curtain...for high end players they would be assist only. for begginer players, they can function as secondary fire power, as monsters between haven and manor are relativelly low in health.
