I think I have a way to SOLVE all our chat woes. So hear me out please.

Alright first we have the general tab-/1 zone and general go here
Then we have the Trade tab for /2 (still debating on whether to have separate buying and selling tabs since the implantation of 30s cool-down)
Next the Guild Tab-/g
Finally the Pm Tab-/tell

However along side this implementation we get to "filter" out the different categories for each window. Say for instance I'm in the PM but I still want to follow the guild, so I can. Basically I am saying we should have a tabbed interface but still be able to have other tabs be a part of one tab if we choose. IE In guild and can see general, PM, and WTB or something. Also, please have the PM tab blink and make it so we can click on player names in the chat and pst them.

How does that sound to everyone?

Having multiple chat tabs is

Having multiple chat tabs is the only way to resolve the compleley immature method being used to control chat spam in SK.

This is the year 2011; having multiple chat tabs in an online game is a key part as all of these products are merely super fancy IRC chat rooms with very entertaining "side games".

Remember, the "chat" is the real reason why people stick with an MMO long term. If people aren't able to socialize, then they won't use the game to socialize.

Myself, I turn off all chat and only speak with guild members, or people local to my screen. That's untenable in a game development world where people can have personal chat channels across a whole game server, regardless of their location. Everquest and World of Warcraft have those as "minor" features of the client.

The Spiral Knights chat method is barely above the level of stone age, and needs much improvement.

it sounds like ton of work

it sounds like ton of work for OOO and not much benefit. id rather have them working on the Auction House or more bosses, seeing how i never have a problem with chat.

That AH is a low-med priority

That AH is a low-med priority buddy and so is content. In case you hadn't noticed it's mostly been bug fixes here and there. Rumor has it they have one dedicated to it. Pretty sure that AH is quite a few updates away.

We have more important and pressing issues to solve. Like the chat, it's horrible. The chat Archaic and in need of a major overhaul.

All of what you said, was nothing of any use to me or the creators.

I agree with all of what you said and I really feel that chat is archaic to say the least and needs a complete and fresh new look and feel to it and I think ^that's how we do it.

I love talking in the chat, but I get sick of typing /leave 2 every time I want to have a conversation.

Having individual

Having individual tabs/windows for each person you're PMing that is separate from the general chat window would be a godsend. They would be like IM chat windows that you could manipulate around your screen and close once you're done with them. I think it's done quite nicely in KnightOnline, another free MMORPG.

ugh.

The chat system is so messed up atm that I don't even bother trying to be social with anyone, it's too much of a hassle. That's pretty bad for an MMO (social game setting..)

Need to be able to create filters, at the very minimum have a second chat window stacked on the existing one, one for trade spam/damage info/loot pickup info, and one for guild/tells/local.

Also, not being able to click on a name in chat to send a tell is kind of sad, this is 2011..

Auction house

You guys seem to forget that once they actually CREATE the auction house there wont be any need for trade chat, really. Most people will just /leave trade forever and never look back, and then the spam in the game will be VERY minimal and the chat system will be just fine.

Granted, seperate tabs for /guild and /tell would be nice, but why stop there? They should have every /tell be able to have it's own tab, and all tabs be customizeable and re-nameable, along with the text in them to be colorable, the font size to be changeable, among other things.

Personally I'd like the option of emoticons and whatnot so I can feel like the game is actually somewhat a social game instead of endless grind for 1337 63412!!11! (leet gear for those that don't know)

I will post what I said from

I will post what I said from my topic on this~

"Not sure the effort it would to to implement, but I was thinking Chat could look a lot cleaner with a tab like system? A Tab for a category. One for All, Haven General(1) Haven Trade and when in the Clockworks, One for party? You can switch to a certain Tab to see stuff from just that Tab. maybe even have a custom slot, or the option to have what comes through the All Tab? Also with this system, if you were in say guild tab, you could just hit enter and type your message and it would send to guild with out the /g or /guild.

Or, if the Tab System can't work, maybe have it so the last / you typed say /g again. You go.. "/g Sup Guildies?" Hit enter. People reply, and you could just hit enter again, and the /g would be there already, and then you could just type "Pretty great, love this new chat system!" (lawl)

All to often am I typing to the wrong place, or getting an error when I do the / command and having to retype a long message multiple times has really just irritated me. Not for your fault of my own. These were just ideas I had to make it easier to chat!""

To expand on both of your

To expand on both of your points;
If they did go with a sep tab for each PM, they had BETTER blink dangit! There would be nothing worse then sitting on the /g tab and having a bunch of whispers coming in that you didn't know you had, because there was no notification of such. The AH will get the majority of the spam gone, but it won't make /2 useless. I have played WoW and it has an AH and a trade chat, and both are quite well used.

I would like a sticky chat if I'm in /g it stays in /g or /2 or /1, how ever I like tells just the way they are.

I would like tabbed chat. I

I would like tabbed chat.

I would also like options to designate how tabs works, such as choosing whether or not to lump whispers and /g chat in one window, and whether or not to display items obtained by other party members. I don't really care how many gel drops they scored, I just want to see my share of the loot.

More utility, such as click-respond for tells would also be appreciated. I hate having to try and type out a player's name when it's right there in my window because they sent me a tell. For Haven, a click-option to go to another player's instance would also be handy for meeting up with people when shopping.
