Regarding the new brandishes...
Is anyone else disappointed that they can only cause their respective status ailments with their charge attacks?
I mean, I understand a 'good' rate of infliction is a lot to expect from your average sword, but considering that their normal swings barely hit more than one target at a time, it's a little disappointing. I'd be much happier with a 'fair' or 'slight' chance instead, but having it work with their normal attacks as well.
Oh well. At least I found this out BEFORE I purchased the five star recipe, because I'm not switching from a divine avenger for this.
No, I'm saying it would be nice if they had even a 'slight' chance of inflicting a status ailment on a normal swing (On par with the flamberge or rigadoon, even if this meant an attack penalty as compared to the pure flourish type, or downgrading the quality of the status ailment already on the brandishes) or, barring that, if they at least had calibur-quality range with their swings, and no infliction. One or the other, not both. I should have been more clear.
As it stands the charge is the only means to inflict anything (which, might I add, seems to have a strictly random amount of explosions, and sometimes none at all) and the normal swings have trouble hitting more than one target even if they're touching. There's not really a lot of incentive to use these over already pre-existing weapons, like Faust/Avenger. It would have been nice to see a little more variety in one's elemental/shadow swords.
It's just disappointing, that's all. Either that or I'm being too touchy after making around 20 brandishes for a UV and then finding out that their normal attacks are kind of lame. >_>
The Charge attack at 5 Stars is massive, though. I'm glad I switched from DA to Combuster. DA's so slow.
Good to see they're taking necessary steps to make swords less overpowered.
Now they just have to cut damage output by 70% across the weapon class and I'll be satisfied.

@Awesomest: It's not like there are other weapons in the game we could be using instead of swords, anyway.
So why would it matter?
If sword users weren't so horrible at this game, I wouldn't have a problem.
Wait, what? You don't get the proc when attacking normally? :( I was so excited to make an ice sword thinking I'd be able to freeze monsters all over the place
@Deckard
No, they really don't. I was sad to find this out. Oh well. I'll stick with the DA and its magic floaty swords.
Seriously?

That's a long range, you can hit lots of things with that. To each their own I guess - I'm loving my faster Elemental sword.

I love the new toys. Granted I have my trusty business weapons to dispatch things expediently, but the new toys brings out my evil streak. What new way can I deliciously torture things or get them to torture each other? More toys, yes please!
People like you who only stick to one weapon type are the real noobs. Buy two extra weapon slots and carry two swords, a gun, and a bomb (or which ever format suits you personally) The biggest advantage in this game is the being able to switch between weapons durring combat.
Anyhow back on subject, I feel at least Glacius and combuster should have a status effect chance on normal hit, even a slight chance.
don't get me wrong i love my avenger/gran faust but im currently trying to find the 4* recipe for these new swords so i can see what they compare to the typical avenger/faust swords.
i know they're faster and slightly less powerful, but i just love the knockback of the others so much and the speed isn't much of a problem when soloing. so really...how do you guys think they compare??
(im still going to test it myself haha)
I think the Glacius is going to be unloved, and rightfully so. The charge attack had 3 explosions, so it might cause Freeze on the first 2, but the third explosion would break them. Freeze in general is so lame because it's easily broken by your own fighting.
@Shoebox: :)
@Everyone else: Way to miss my point.
I'm saying that sword users don't know how to use their own weapons, not that swords themselves are bad. Don't blame your lack of skill on 'bad' weapons; you're only proving me right.
Then why suggest a 70% damage reduction to all swords if your quarrel is with sword users and their "inability to use their own weapons"? your argument is totally flawed.
Because swords are overpowered; anyone that picks one up seems to think they can get away without learning how to play first. If swords weren't so insanely powerful and easy to use, maybe people will think twice before charging into mobs Leeroy Jenkins style.
My arguments are never flawed.
Awesomest == GodOfSkype1

Same goes for the Flourish Series ? (Stun and Fire)
So what you're saying is, you want the nightblade and its later incarnations to be strictly better versions of the faust and gran faust in every way save multi-hit normal swings?
